While Social Security is set to increase by 3.2 percent in 2024, many seniors are worried about how the limited inflation adjustment will keep them afloat. [SNIP] The concerns are growing, as nearly three in five seniors said they were struggling financially, and 70 percent of single seniors already struggle with their existing Social Security income. The ramifications of the small COLA boost could be severe, with around two in five seniors saying they plan to seek employment due to the modest increase. For single seniors specifically, 47 percent said they would consider employment to supplement their incomes.

Most Seniors who are on SS are also on Medicare. The increase in SS "benefits" is accompanied by in increase in Medicare fees. So the raise isn't much. What kinds of jobs can an old person get? Whenever I visit an eye doctor I take Uber because I have trouble seeing after my eyes have been dilated. I have ridden in Ubers driven by old people driving a Mercedes Benz. I couldn't do that because I hate driving.

Just think how much money this country would have if there wasn't millions of illegal immigrants to support, or billions going to Ukraine and to other countries that hate us. Our people would be so much better off.
We need President Trump to get us out of this mess. MAGA 24

The government taxes me, takes my money, and then taxes me again when they return my already taxed money. SS was taxed in the Reagan administration. It was wrong then and it is wrong now.

Joe Biden is worried about the muslim vote and the minority vote. Wait until he feels the wrath of us Americans who occupy the bottom of the priority list.

In my little town there is a Brookshires grocery store (regional GREAT chain) that hires older men to sack groceries during the day (not night - high school kids do that). There are two men who are having trouble even getting around, one of whom has to lean on the grocery cart to get you out to the car. BTW - this chain has a policy that every patron has an employee take the groceries to the customer's car and they cannot accept tips. Anyway, these two old men (mid 80s at least) are there every day, doing the job high school and college kids do during the evening at the same store. And they get paid the same minimum wage. I have a strong suspicion, thought, that they think it is better to be working than sitting at home waiting to die.

And also BTW, before you smoke me for being a heartless millennial, I'll be 69 in a couple of weeks and I'm still working. And will be for as long as I can. I've known too many people (mostly men) who 'retired' and died a year later.

I imagine it's all the grifters complaining because they didn't get a raise.

this is a contrived figure that was arrived at by the bidenistas et al, and was postponed and delayed until they could justify the lowest acceptable number for those of us on Social Security and
- the extent of deceit and lies accompanying this contrived number is as huge as the continent of Antarctica
- there was no revealing of the true inflation numbers because
- it would have given a more dire picture of the true reality of bidenomics and
- the utter failure of the demcommies method of governing that is purposeful rather than accidental so
- if there is one person, or group of persons, who shouldn't vote for this administration, in 2024 it should be those of us receiving Social Security, in all of its programs but also
- if the government would terminate those who are collecting, as it illegal aliens, etc, Social Security benefits, in any of its forms, the program would see true solvency. like never before but
- that would not fit the demcommie plan to impoverish the greater percentage of the population of people who actually "earned" their monthly benefits

#3 - The Reagan / O'Neill rationale was that the employer portion of the SS tax paid was not a return of the employee's money, and therefore should be taxed up to 50% (representing the employer's half) if the recipient was over a certain income threshold. The Clinton / Gore regime with Democrat majorities raised it to the current 85%, which as you said, taxes the employee contribution, which is abominable. Despite the 1994 landslide in the House, Clinton would have vetoed any attempt to either reverse the increase or eliminate the 85% altogether. The Uniparty under Republican control hasn't addressed it in 30 years either.

Anyone who thought SS would provide an adequate retirement was badly mistaken. At best, SS must be regarded as just a small supplement to your retirement income. SS actually harms your retirement because it taxes your working income that could have been better invested to provide an adequate retirement income.

At least they get a raise. Many businesses cannot afford to give raises due to increased expenses, taxes, and other economic factors.

Guess who was on board for taxing SS benefits? Biteme was all for it. They determine any increase in SS benefits based on the inflation rate in September. The inflation rate in September was 3.7%. So, the SS increase should have been 3.7%. Instead, it was 3.2%. I see this as an attempt to cut back on SS to save it from bankruptcy.

The scam is just what #1 said. Any increase in SS payments is offset by a conviently-coordinated rise in Medicare deductions from the payment. The government’s disasterously shortsighted approach to this program is reaping what it has sewn, as it cannot keep up with the sheer numbers of aging Baby Boomers, combined with governmental embrace of life choices that do not include replacing the next generation. As with all things that have their origins on the left, the result is ruinous. All that being said, SS was never meant to be a living wage for our old age. It was meant to be a supplement to hopefully prudent financial choices earlier in life, so that people were not left penniless. But, it is OUR money. We paid into it, and were promised it would be there for us when we reached a certain age. It is NOT an entitlement, but neither is it a salary.

I began planning for retirement without any Social Security when I was about 35 years old. It has never seemed very likely that this Ponzi Scheme could keep up payments as they planned for my whole life.
So, I planned to live comfortably in retirement sans SS. We get SS, and use it, of course, but if it disappears entirely, we'll be fine.
A do feel sad for those tens of millions who were fooled by the government lies about SS and have depended on it for retirement, either through planning....or all too commonly, via no planning whatsoever for their inevitable retirement.
