A group of commercial fishermen have ended

An unforgiving southeast wind cut across Cape May, New Jersey, on a recent Tuesday morning; the 50-mile-per-hour gusts were so strong they created white caps on a section of the bay here that is typically calm. There would be no fishing for Bill Bright and his crew. [SNIP] But back in 2020, federal regulators moved to require herring fishermen to directly pay observers salaries, a move that could potentially cost herring fishermen up to $700 per day. By some estimates, that could top 20% of revenue from a fisherman's catch.

$700/day works out to $182,000/year, calculated as a 40hr week, but fishing isn't an 8hr day, nor a 5 day week, you go out and fish until you are full or of fuel. working around the clock. Deck hands don't earn that much, few if any Captains do..

I don't understand how the Chevron Doctrine could be considered constitutional. when there is no law, you defer to regulatory agencies. The unelected bureaucrats at these agencies and bureaucrats are, in essence, making laws and imposing fees and taxes. That is the job of the House of Representatives, supported by the Senate, then signed by the President. Unaccountable, unelected bureaucrats shouldn't be allowed to do this. The Chevron Doctrine must be struck down by the Supreme Court.

Be a shame if a few of these useless observers fell overboard. This should have been taken to court on day 1. I don't have to pay over and above taxes for my own cops, why should they?

Hamas' spoils of war? Terror group's associates
are accused of making more than $900 MILLION
by shorting shares in Israel's biggest
bank weeks before October 7 massacre

Hamas-linked financiers made hundreds of millions of dollars of profits by shorting Israeli stocks before the October 7 massacre, two analysts say. One unidentified trader 'shorted' 4.43 million shares in Israel's largest bank, Leumi, between September 15 and October 5 - meaning they gambled that the price of Leumi's shares would fall. After the October 7 attack, Leumi's share price did indeed plummet as its operations were paralyzed, earning a $900 million profit for the trader, who is believed to have links to Hamas. The trade and others were unearthed by Robert J. Jackson, Jr, from New York University School of Law, and Joshua Mitts of Columbia Law School.

Gold prices notched a new record on Monday for a second day in a row — with spot prices touching $2,100 as the global rush for bullion appears set to continue. Gold prices are on course to hit fresh highs next year and could remain above $2,000 levels, analysts said, citing geopolitical uncertainty, a likely weaker U.S. dollar and possible interest rate cuts. Prices of the yellow metal have risen for two consecutive months with the Israel-Palestinian conflict boosting demand for the safe-haven asset, while expectations of interest rate cuts have provided further support.

This year, Cuyahoga County may still be on track to surpass 2017 for the highest number of overdose deaths. Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson said fentanyl remains the biggest contributor. "There’s still always the chance you get something you didn't bargain for,” said Gilson. Since fentanyl appeared in the area's drug supply in late 2014, Cuyahoga County went from around 350 drug overdoses a year to 650 plus every year. The worst year to date was 2017 when 727 people overdosed. In June, when News 5 spoke to Gilson last, he feared the county was on track to surpass 2017.

Amazon has banned the sale of the 'FlipperZero' gadget, a handheld device designed to hack into digital frequencies such as radio waves and TV signals. First released in the summer of 2020, the tool took off this year as it fueled a TikTok prank wave. The online retail giant decided to ban the product after it became clear its hacking abilities are also able to clone credit card information, breaking the company's rules on card-skimming. And in a disturbing look at how easily public digital waves are intercepted, social media has become flooded with pranksters switching off restaurant screens, opening card-locked doors and meddling with vehicles.

Muslim community leaders from several swing states pledged to withdraw support for U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday at a conference in suburban Detroit, citing his refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. Democrats in Michigan have warned the White House that Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war could cost him enough support within the Arab American community to sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania gathered behind a lectern that read "Abandon Biden, ceasefire now" in Dearborn, Michigan - the city with the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the United States.

Ireland's prime minister on Friday condemned anti-immigrant protesters who rampaged through central Dublin after three young children were stabbed, saying the rioters simply wanted to cause chaos, not protect the country's way of life. Police arrested 34 people overnight after up to 500 people looted shops, set fire to vehicles and threw rocks at crowd control officers equipped with helmets and shields. The violence began after rumors circulated that a foreign national was responsible for the attack outside a Dublin school on Thursday afternoon. Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Ireland's capital had endured two attacks, one on innocent children and the other on "our society and the rule of law."

The goal, Whitmer wrote in the order, is “essential” for her administration’s green energy agenda. Whitmer wrote in the directive: Michigan is on the cutting-edge of mobility and electrification. Our world-leading auto industry is making the switch to electric, and we continue to attract battery, semiconductor, and clean energy investments from other states and nations. We must usher the future of mobility and clean energy into Michigan

On Dec. 7, 1941, a surprise attack at the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii would officially begin the United States' involvement in World War II. That day, which President Franklin Roosevelt would notably call "a date which will live in infamy," is now recognized each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. According to the National Park Service, 2,403 service members and civilians were killed and another 1,178 people were injured in the attack.
