All new cars in Canada will have to be zero emissions by 2035, the government will announce next week when it unveils new vehicle regulations, the Star has learned. But rather than being a way to force new technology on consumers, it’s being sold as a way to guarantee that people who want EVs will be able to get them more quickly. The new regulations, called the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, will shorten the lengthy wait times for EVs that have been dampening consumer demand, said a senior government official whom the Star agreed not to name because they were

Way to go, Canada. You voted in a bunch of authoritarian leftists that will quickly sap any true freedom you believed you had. And we in America are not far behind.

There’s a waiting time for EV’s? I thought they were clogging up dealers lots because nobody wants them. Government logic at its finest.

So, in the winter, the entire nation will shut down. You think Michigan and New York are cold? Canada is a LOT colder, with corresponding decreases in battery power and EV range. You'll be lucky to get 75 miles on a full charge.
I'm never settling foot in Canada again. That entire country has gone batshite crazy.

In 30 years Canada (and the US if Brandon gets his way) will look like Havana, with all these old clunkers driving around being held together with baling wire and chewing gum.

1. This is stupid
2. It will never happen; it's just Trudeau virtue signaling
3. Toronto is warmer than most of the US Northeast because of how the cold comes off the lakes and the path the arctic winds flow. I grew up in NY/CT and now spend winters in Toronto where a warm jacket is sufficient that would leave me frozen dead in NY/CT

No one is buying the EVs because there are too many of them. So the gummint will make everyone buy them so there will be fewer of them.
Yes - - now it makes sense.

This needs Droopy the dog to tell the crazy canucks that zero-emission transportation is as mythical as cold fusion power, room-temperature superconduction, and ruby-throated unicorns.

I hope that there is no place in Canada that gets below -22F in the winter because Tesla, for example, posts an advisory on its EVs that they are not to be used below these temperatures.

First off, Canada is just the name of the country. 'Canada' won't be requiring anything. Communist politicians will be doing the requiring.

No worries Canadians, the US can supply all the used vehicles you want. Our government managed EV program ensures a disastrous roll out requiring gas vehicles to be sold for decades.

Plenty of charging stations everywhere, and everything in that country is pretty close together. Won't be a problem, or else Trudeau will refund all your loonies!

I can't think of a single reason to go to Canada ever again since I quit smoking 50 or so years ago. (Dad brought me 2 cartons from Manitoba eons ago, but I had quit smoking while he was gone.) I never bothered to find out why they were cheaper north of the border, anyway. But I wonder how much the UK influences Canada's decisions.

You just can't fix stupid. Batteries and your cold do not mix well. Go ahead and watch people die because of this edict. The how did your country get so sheeplike to blindly accept diktat from the illegitimate son of Fidel Castro and Pierre Trudeau's wife?

I guess if cars aren't running, that counts for zero emissions. Funny how all the idiots making these policies won't be affected at all.

Canadians, at least their elected officials, are most assuredly a really STUPID lot! Perhaps firstly they should try all the progressive Bull Schiff projects the left can dream up on the Quebecoise. Those are the asshats who want it and deserve it most anyway!

But Constable Dudley Do-Right's vehicle, Horse, produces lots of emissions. Does this mean that the RCMP will have to pursue Snidely Whiplash on foot? Will Nell Fenwick perish tied up to railroad tracks? Tune in in 8 years.

If you are only driving 20 miles or so around Toronto or Montreal it may work. But good luck with that in Canada's sparsely populated provinces and the Yukon with brutally cold winters. It will be a disaster.
