A year after leaving the White House, Barack and Michelle Obama created a production company called Higher Ground Productions that would produce documentaries and high-end movies. Their most recent movie, though, seemingly seeks the lowest ground possible, for it appears to stoke racial hatred in the context of an apocalypse.
According to the Higher Ground website, Leave the World Behind throws a white and black couple together during a massive cyberattack: A family’s (Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke) vacation is upended when two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) arrive at night, seeking refuge from a cyberattack that grows more terrifying

WASHINGTON - U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that Israel is losing support over its "indiscriminate" bombing of Gaza and that Benjamin Netanyahu should change, exposing a new rift in relations with the Israeli prime minister.
Biden's remarks, made to donors to his 2024 re-election campaign, were his most critical to date of Netanyahu's handling of Israel's war in Gaza. They are a stark contrast to his literal and political embrace of the Israeli leader days after Hamas militants' Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel.
"Israel's security can rest on the United States, but right now it has more than the United States. It has the European Union, it has Europe,

A Turkish member of parliament collapsed on Tuesday with an apparent heart attack amid discussing godly punishments for the Israeli people.
Felicity (Saadet) Party Member Hasan Bitmez fell beside a podium while addressing the Grand Assembly of the Turkish National Assembly during a reported budgetary discussion.
"You will not escape the wrath of Allah," Bitmez, 54, said moments before he fainted and seemingly hit his head on the floor, immediately drawing a swarm of onlookers to intervene and provide medical attention. He reportedly has diabetes. (X) Multiple reports indicate that some type of cardiac event occurred requiring life-saving measures,

All Canadian military bases will soon be required to have menstruation products in the men's restroom to align with the federal government directive issued by Employment and Social Development Canada to promote "inclusivity," with the initiative expected to kick off on Dec. 15.
Major Soomin Kim from the Department of National Defence confirmed the policy. He told True North, "Starting December 15, 2023, as per the Canada Labour Code, all federally managed washrooms will be required to provide menstrual products to all employees."
The guidelines put out by the Government of Canada dictate that menstrual products, such as pads and tampons "must be readily available

Claudine Gay will remain as Harvard president with the full support of the Ivy League college's governing body, the university's board announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The board wrote: 'As members of the Harvard Corporation, we today reaffirm our support for President Gay’s continued leadership of Harvard University. Our extensive deliberations affirm our confidence that President Gay is the right leader to help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing.
The board acknowledged Gay's mistakes in handling anti-Semitism on campus, adding:

Harvard President Claudine Gay is expected to remain in her post after her Congressional testimony on antisemitism sparked widespread public outrage last week.
The Harvard Corporation, the university's governing body, will issue a statement of support for Gay on Tuesday morning, the Harvard Crimson reported, citing a source familiar with the board's decision after it met Monday to discuss the matter.
Harvard University did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Gay, University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill and Massachusetts Institute of Technology President Sally Kornbluth each faced intense backlash after they appeared before Congress last week and were grilled

We're just a little over a month out from the GOP presidential primary swinging into high gear. The Iowa Caucuses will kick things off on January 15. While Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has set his sights on the Hawkeye State — and secured the endorsement of Governor Kim Reynolds — former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley has been focusing her efforts on New Hampshire, where the primary will take place on January 23. Nikki Haley is putting her chips on the center of the board in New Hampshire, a New England state where she has surged into a clear second place behind former President Trump.

As Cop28 in Dubai enters its final hours, the emotional weight of the moment is hard to bear. I find myself thinking of a six-year-old boy called Desmond I met in Turkana county, Kenya, who died from severe acute malnutrition on the same day. His death was the result of a climate-induced drought that has left millions of people on the brink of starvation in the Horn of Africa.
I want the negotiators deciding the outcome of Cop28 to know Desmond’s story. Because in the end, the climate crisis is not about pledges, statistics, reports or activists. It’s about human suffering and ruined lives. It’s about death.

The Democratic mayor of Boston has sparked outrage after inviting city councilors to a holiday party intended only for 'electeds of color.'
Michelle Wu's invitation for the December 13 'Electeds of Color Holiday Party' appeared to have been sent out to all councilors in error by her aide, Denise DosSantos.
DosSantos followed up the email 15 minutes later apologizing for the invite, clarifying that it was only meant for the city's six councilors of color. The seven white council members were not welcome.

According to a new report, Joe Biden is blaming himself for the legal woes of his son, thinking if he hadn't run that this wouldn't be happening and he's prone to flipping out if anyone brings up the topic. “In private, no issue is more likely to anger or sadden President Biden than attacks on his son,” according to Axios, which describes people close to the 81-year-old president noticing that his “moods shift” when there is unpleasant news about Hunter.

For the first time in the nearly 30-year history of the United Nations summit on climate change, all nations gathered unanimously agreed to a resolution that called for “transitioning away from fossil fuels” and committed member states to tripling existing green-energy infrastructure by 2030.
The nearly 200 member countries gathered at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai agreed to transition away from fossil fuels “in a just, orderly and equitable manner” before entirely eliminating carbon emissions by 2050. While previous U.N. climate agreements committed member states to work toward slowing global warming, the deal announced Wednesday was the first to include an explicit commitment to do away with “fossil fuels.”

Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight” that she believes Democrats are fighting for freedoms that Republicans are taking away with book bans.
The former speaker claimed books in school that have been classics “are now burned.”
Wagner said, “Some of the priorities for these Republican lawmakers in a vacuum. The most egregious things really stand out. Among them their war on reproductive freedom and the most recent comments from their informal head, their front runner, Donald Trump, who wants to replace Obamacare.”
Pelosi said, “Yes, imagine that. When he was president he said repeal and replace. He had no replacement, he just wanted to repeal
