Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley opened up the third Republican debate by criticizing former President Donald Trump after moderators asked them to make their case to Trump supporters.
When asked to make the case on why he should be the GOP nominee rather than Trump — the latter of whom is wildly popular, leading in poll after poll — DeSantis immediately pointed to the “elites,” telling voters that they do not care about them.“They don’t care that you’re having to grapple with higher grocery prices or have higher gas prices. They don’t care that your family’s less secure because of the open border

They are betting on the fact that Trump will be buried in legal land mines and that an alternate candidate will be required. We shall see.

It was a good debate last night and, surprisingly, well run by NBC. But we'll have to wait for the Iowa caucuses to see if Ron or Nikki has a chance against Trump. Based on Tuesday's election in central PA. I hope so. 90% of the signs were Democrat, and results reflected more D incursions into formerly solid red areas. Enthusiasm is with the Democrats, and Scott Perry clearly has an uphill battle, as would Trump, even without the legal theater and where it might lead. From this ever-shrinking corner of the Lucianne community, I hate to break it to my fellow community members, but only someone other than Donald has a chance at keeping PA Republican. Whether that someone can still appear remains to be seen.

These poor, misguided candidates are fighting the last war. They simply refuse to come to the realization that those halcyion days when republicans could campain on tax cuts and support for our military is over. The reason is that America is dead, having been killed by left-wing totalitarian democrats.

DeSantis would have had a bright political future after winning Florida if he would had just taken care of Florida and waited to the proper time, but he had to jump in and start slinging dirt. Now is has splattered mud all over himself which he may never be able to wash off.

Well at least we need not worry about either of those two being called on as a VP.

After daring to watch some of that clown show of a debate, I was reminded of a quote from Dante. "Abandon all hope, ye who enter."

Normally, when a Presidential candidate has these kind of polling numbers, we go all in for that guy. However, the Rino faction and never Trumpers are digging in their heels and by doing so may give this right to the democrats. I can understand opposition, but this kind of cutting your nose off to spite your face that is going on is unreasonable in today’s political climate. We cannot give the democrats another term. I’m not so sure we can even hang on until January 2025 at the rate of destruction that dems are committing every single day.
Opposition could be understood if Trump had been a lousy President but he outshined every President in modern history since Ronald Reagan. He delivered what the Republican Party asked and now these fools are going to turn their backs on him?! Why?They need to explain that. His personality is just not going to cut it. He made promises and kept them. The world was at peace for the most part. Inflation was minimal. Unemployment was the lowest it had been in decades. The border was secure and we were energy independent. Everyone was doing well. Explain what he did that was so wrong that Rinos cannot bear to support him. Could it be because he showed your sorry butts up every day? He actually worked hard. He took no salary. He was excellent on foreign policy and the world respected us for it. What was the unpardonable sin he committed? Could it be because he had your number and understood your motivation was not to do the will of the people but to pad your pockets and feed your ego?
Now more than ever, we need a straight talker. We need a pro-American leader! We need a CIC that knows when and how to use our military. We need someone who loves this country, is unashamed of our history and loves its people. He sees worth in the American worker where these Rino elites only see an underclass unfit for their company but always fit enough for their donations and votes.
Listen up, you fools. We are at a crossroads like never before and you need to get with the program to save the Republic. No ego is worth what is coming if you do not support President Trump. This demonic party will crush you and grind you under their heels if you do not comply. They are very much like Hamas in that regard. We have one chance to shore up freedom and you had better think long and hard before you decide you will not ever support Donald J. Trump. Believe me, you will be blamed for the loss. Every conservative in this country will name and blame you for deserting the country in the time of its greatest need. We can defeat this scourge that is ruining the country, get on board and help us save the United States of America.

Their carping about Trump is why I won't vote for either one. I initially liked DeSantis for his remarkable accomplishments in Florida. Still, his frequent and sometimes inaccurate criticisms of Trump are astonishingly stupid and reveals his naked ambition, which is not appealing.

Democrats continue doing what they were born to do: rig elections. You think the Ohio abortion amendment won because everyone loves to kill babies? Every other race in Ohio went to the Republicans, with the majority of tickets voting strait Republican EXCEPT for the abortion issue. You think the George Soros money machine puts enormous sums into races to “get the word out”? No, they use the money to buy the results they want. It takes money to grease palms, hire ballot harvesters, and bribe election officials. What disturbs me are the weak-minded who fall for the “Omigod, we’re doomed now!” narrative. Stop with the electoral nuances. There is good and there is evil. There is right and there is wrong. Just because evil is having a field day in this climate, doesn’t mean we reject righteousness because it’s more practical. Doing the right thing is hard; that’s why so few people do it.

# 9, those of us on this board (a relative few) who prefer DeSantis over Trump for the nomination are neither Never Trumpers nor RINOs. We just don't believe that DJT has a path to 270 electoral votes, no matter how low Biden's poll ratings might be today.
You can remind us of Trump's accomplishments and strong points into forever, but if the critical mass of voters don't remember, are distracted by trivia or are put off by his personality all the enthusiasm expressed in precincts like ours will not matter a whit.
And I'm sure we can agree, can we not, that if we lose in '24 it's Game Over for the republic?
Those f us not on the Trump Train now will support him on election day if he is nominated. There are no globalist types or Bulwark subscribers on this board. The real question is, if Trump is upended on his way to the nomination (Iowa will be the key) will some of his bitter end supporters stay at home next November?

Some of us remember well who the 2015-16 anti-Trimpers were. One (who had three usernames) is gone, but a handful of diehards remain and show up on these threads.

#21. We know that with Trump as the candidate, the election will focus on him and his baggage. With any other Republican, the focus will be on the Democrat, where it should be. There's no such thing as a sure thing, but our odds are better with Ron or Nikki.
