Blue state suspends basic skills graduation
requirement again, citing harm to students
of color

High schoolers in Oregon won't need to demonstrate basic competency in reading, writing or math in order to graduate for at least five more years because, according to education officials, such requirements are unnecessary and disproportionately harm students of color. "At some point … our diploma is going to end up looking a lot more like a participation prize than an actual certificate that shows that someone actually is prepared to go pursue their best future," former Oregon gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan told Fox News.

Comments:

As it is, our educational requirements are a joke compared to what European or Asian students experience.

No need to read, write or do math. Why waste your time. You are just too dumb. We know it, you know. Just admit it and move on. As long as you recognize what a D looks like all is good. My God, when are you people going to walk away from the modern slave owners? What did the slave owners fear? An intelligent slave who could think for himself, someone who believed that he deserved better, someone who could reason and think through a problem and deal with it. Do you not realize what is going on? If this is their new policy I suggest that no person of color be required to attend school. I mean, why bother. Just have school for whites (watch out Hispanics you are on their radar) and Asians. Think of all the money you could save and redirect into your own pockets. Remember, it is easier to control an ignorant person. There is a different in not being able to learn and being ignorant. I'm blown away.

GWB's "bigotry of low expectations." What this shows is a lack of good teachers, teachers who actually TEACH. As these kids enter the classroom each year, they enter already behind. They need safe travel to and from school; they need safe, clean schools, also safe for the teachers. This will of course require that they respect authorities, including police. It's a huge problem and very difficult to turn around. Need to get it done now. Maybe start English language tutoring during summer. We now have millions of illegals entering the schools mostly illiterate even in their own languages. This is another way to destroy the Middle Class, the segment of our market economy which has been the engine of prosperity, where most of the true patriots have been reared. Marx knew that the Middle Class needed to be eradicated for his march to communism. What we will have is an enormous subservient class, roiling, angry, violent with the leftists fanning the flames of envy. Democrats just can't give up their old ways, the old segregationists, slaveholders, KKK members. There's also the problem with homelife. I imagine there is an enormous amount of stress in those environments where there's fear, violence and constant noise and worry, and poor diet. No wonder there's so much heart disease, diabetes and cancer. I remember Dr. Ben Carson telling the story about how, unbeknownst to him and his brother, his Mom couldn't read, but she expected the boys to read books and do book reports which she'd have them read to her. She knew that reading was the gateway. She did learn to read later! Failing the students this way by letting them graduate unprepared to live purposeful lives is an abomination, dooming the kids to lives of poverty and high probability of criminality. These children in especially urban areas have been neglected and abused by the system. But the schools (unions, administrators) get gobs of money.

A new poll found that nearly two-thirds of New Yorkers blame President Biden for the migrant crisis, raising national security, financial and other concerns in the Empire State. According to a Sienna College poll released Tuesday, 64% of New Yorkers disapprove of the job Biden is doing to address the recent influx of migrants in the state as of October. That includes 48% of Democrats who flunk Biden for his handling of the crisis, 91% of Republicans and 72% of independents. The poll found 46% of New Yorkers disapprove and just 30% approve of how New York City Mayor Eric Adams has addressed the influx of migrants

The Middle East is on fire. Eastern Europe is gridlocked in war. America’s southern border looks like a scene out of “Mad Max.” And Southeast Asia is a tinderbox that could ignite with one wrong move. After four years of expanding peace under President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden is presiding over a world careening toward mayhem. “Mean tweets and world peace” has a nice ring to it. But it’s also worth exploring why Trump’s unorthodox approach to foreign affairs produced such markedly better results than Biden’s heralded return to normalcy. The current state of the Middle East — where most recently on Biden’s watch, Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, slaughtered

In presidential elections there’s no such thing as a Pyrrhic victory. Winning is everything — and neither party would ever openly admit there could be advantages to losing. Yet the outcome of the 2020 election wasn’t entirely unlucky for the Republican Party or even Donald Trump himself. And as both parties look to next year’s contest, far-sighted strategists can see a bigger picture beyond Trump and Biden. Whoever won in 2020 was going to face the ugly but necessary task of withdrawing US forces from Afghanistan, where twenty years of nation-building had failed to establish a free state that could resist the Taliban. Trump might have executed the withdrawal more successfully

It represents the single greatest threat to this nation: a citizenry that has lost faith not just with our system of government but with each other. Friday afternoon, the Treasury Department reported that, despite a growing economy and low unemployment, the federal deficit shot up by $320 billion in fiscal year 2023. That’s unusual. But what’s really bizarre is why the deficit exploded. According to the report, overall spending actually dropped by 2% compared with 2022 as the COVID-19 spending splurge abated. What drove up the deficit this year was a sudden and completely unexpected 9% drop in tax revenues. Not only did revenues come up hundreds of billions lower than last year, but they were well below what everybody expected them to be.

Representative James Comer (R-KY) said Monday on Fox Business Channel’s “Kudlow” that he was “ashamed” that House Republicans have not elected a speaker after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was removed from the position three weeks ago. Anchor Larry Kudlow said, “I need a Republican speaker of the House, Mr. Chairman so you can go back to work and everyone else can go back to work. What’s happening?” Comer said, “We’ve wasted three weeks. And, you know, this was a dumb move by those eight members of Congress. Many of them are on my committee. I like, you know, at least six of the eight.

I first noticed this topic about 10 days ago when Michelle Goldberg wrote about it. Simply put, American Jews who polls show mostly lean left, have been shocked and dismayed by the reaction of fellow progressives to the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust. Over the weekend there were several good pieces about this topic. First up is one published yesterday bt the Free Press. Author Konstantin Kisin says he heard a friend joke that some people woke up as progressive on Oct. 7 and went to bed as conservatives. A friend of mine joked that she woke up on October 7 as a liberal

A new study out of Norway is exactly what was needed to shut down the climate alarmists. Its findings show that man has not set fire to his home planet. Right from the top, in the abstract not 10 lines into the study, the authors get to the point. “Using theoretical arguments and statistical tests we find,” the researchers say, “that the effect of man-made CO2 emissions does not appear to be strong enough to cause systematic changes in the temperature fluctuations during the last 200 years.” In other words, our words, the greenhouse effect is so weak

HOUSTON - The Sheila Jackson Lee for Houston satellite office was ‘attacked’ by a known conspiracy theorist and Republican operative, a statement from Jackson Lee's office said. According to the release, they said Aubrey Taylor showed up at the office on Almeda Road and brutally attacked campaign Chairman Gerald Womack. The campaign issued the following statement to FOX 26 on Monday saying, "We are deeply concerned by these attacks and this is yet another example of how dangerous conspiracy rhetoric inflamed by Republican extremists has real consequences where people get hurt. We have taken additional security measures, and we will continue to move forward with our task at hand
