The embarrassing impasse in the House of Representatives has finally ended, as Louisiana’s Mike Johnson has been elected Speaker. So, who is Mike Johnson, and why was he finally able to succeed where several more notable House members failed?
I suspect that the answer has more to do with desperation than anything else. The Republican Party was made to look ridiculous, not so much by the party’s divisions as by the utter lack of party loyalty and discipline that was revealed by one failed vote after another. Most likely, Republicans coalesced behind Johnson–a little-known commodity, who has never been a committee chairman–to stop the bleeding.

We’ve seen this sort of thing happen before. Just a couple years ago there was a wave of anti-Semitic attacks with notable incidents in New York City and Los Angeles. Now it seems to be happening again.
Last night a deranged man broke into a Jewish family’s home in Studio City, CA and threatened to kill them. The couple’s four children were home at the time.
The break-in happened around 5:20 a.m. in the 3000 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to Los Angeles Police.
The victim, who is nine months pregnant, told KTLA’s Ellina Abovian that the intruder first kicked in the door to their master bedroom.

Police are hunting for a gunman who reportedly opened fire at three separate locations in Lewiston, Maine, and are warning local residents to remain in their homes. A photo issued by sheriffs showed a white man entering the Sparetime recreation center with a long rifle, wearing black combat trousers and a brown top. His face is clearly visible. The neighboring city of Auburn has also been placed on lockdown. 'There is an active shooter situation in the city of Lewiston,' said Maine state police.
'Law enforcement is asking people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked.'
Police audio said the two locations

Oh FFS.
The story about why Israel has yet to make a ground invasion of Gaza is becoming clear, and it is yet another embarrassment for the United States under Joe Biden.
Israel has been prepared to enter Gaza to eliminate Hamas, but the ground invasion keeps getting delayed. The reason why?
The US is unprepared to defend US military installations in the area. This is pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. However, I am not sure that the Biden Administration isn’t just pressuring Israel to delay for other reasons as well, given their neverending expressions of concern for Gaza.
Israel has agreed, for now, to a request from the U.S.

It is becoming even more difficult to believe Iran's claims that it was not involved in Hamas' attack against Israel. A new Wall Street Journal report has surfaced further highlighting Iran’s role in the planning and execution of the terrorist organizations’ surprise attack against southern Israel on October 7, which started the current war in the Middle East. The report suggests that Hamas fighters, along with operatives from other terrorist groups, received “specialized” combat training in Iran just weeks before the assault.
This revelation shatters any lingering doubts about Iran’s role in bringing about the attack, which killed over 1,000 Israelis, many of whom were noncombatants.

After Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) withdrew from the race for House Speaker mere hours after being nominated by the House GOP, Republicans had to scramble to pick a replacement.
And so they did. GOP Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson (R-La.) won the latest round of secret ballot voting in the GOP caucus, and, unlike previous nominees Reps. Steve Scalise (R-La.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and Emmer, there is overwhelming optimism that the GOP has finally found a speaker-designee whom the party can all rally behind and get elected as speaker.

According to Variety, a list of more than 400 Hollywood celebrities signed a letter insisting that President Joe Biden “not rest” until Hamas releases the hostages it currently has in captivity. The group of A-listers launched the formal campaign and called it #NoHostageLeftBehind.
The letter, addressed to Biden, was released on Monday and began like this: “We are heartened by Friday’s release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaanand her daughter Natalie Ranaan and by today’s release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooperand Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.”

Aaron Sorkin has dropped CAA and returned to WME over a post critical of Israel made by its co-chief of the motion pictures department, Maha Dakhil.
“Maha isn’t an antisemite, she’s just wrong. She’s a great agent, and I’m very proud of the work we did together over the last six years. I’m excited to be returning to WME,” the prolific scribe told The Hollywood Reporter. The writer behind The Social Network and The West Wing had been repped by WME until a 2017 move over to rival CAA.
Dakhil, whose A-list client roster includes Tom Cruise, Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon, came under scrutiny for an Instagram repost that referenced “genocide”

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah, convened a summit featuring top leaders from Sunni terrorist organizations Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) on Wednesday, allegedly meant to plan future violence following Hamas’s mass murder of over 1,400 Israelis on October 7.
The Hezbollah-owned Al-Manar propaganda outlet named Nasrallah’s guests as Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ziad Nakhale and Hamas deputy chief Saleh Al-Arouri and called the meeting “highly anticipated” and “monumental” in the jihadist community, as it was the first summit of its kind since October 7.

More than two weeks after Hamas launched a genocidal assault on Israel, resulting in the death of at least 1,400 innocent civilians and the abduction of at least 200 more, former President Barack Obama weighed in with a statement .
And it’s a statement that not only demonstrates the sheer arrogance we endured throughout his administration, but the feckless cluelessness that has now infected the Biden administration’s foreign policy. To his credit, Obama managed to begin with one paragraph that was rooted in reality, speaking of Hamas’s “horrific attack,” which demonstrated “unspeakable brutality,” and America’s “rightly declared solidarity”

Israel has agreed to delay its impending ground invasion of Gaza until the U.S. can establish air defenses to protect U.S. troops throughout the region.
The Pentagon has requested that Israel hold off until they can deploy nearly a dozen air-defense systems to the region, the Wall Street Journal first reported. The missile deployments, which are expected to be completed in the coming days, are intended to shield U.S. troops serving in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates from enemy rockets and missiles. While the status of humanitarian aid available to Gazans and the release of hostages are still national concerns
