WASHINGTON — Republicans on Tuesday picked Rep. Tom Emmer as their nominee for House speaker. The nominee now goes to the full House for a vote.
It’s three weeks since Republicans ousted Kevin McCarthy. The House speaker will need to accomplish the seemingly impossible job of uniting the GOP majority. Emmer of Minnesota jumped ahead as the top vote-getter on early round ballots and was battling Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana on a fifth ballot.
Others are dropping out including Florida newcomer Byron Donalds, who’s aligned with Donald Trump, and Kevin Hern of Oklahoma. The nominee will also need to win a majority in a House floor vote.

Emmert was a spokesman for Soros and advocated doing away with the Electoral College. I'm done with the Republicants!

Reports are that Emmer had a past employment relationship with George Soros. So if he is a RINO look for enough of the leftist and socialist Democrats to get lost, not vote, and allow the wimpy Republicans to elect him as their Speaker who will support Democrat legislation. We will have to wait and see. If that happens a lot of those wimpy Republicans should be blasted into political oblivion through the next Republican primaries.

The fix is in. Emmers will get enough Democrat support to push him over 217.

Emmer is a RINO blowhard lawyer who served six years in the MN legislature, lost in the governor race to Mark Dayton and succeeded Michelle Bachmann in his congressional district. He is not to be trusted, has an ego bigger than 10,000 lakes, and is not genuinely Minnesota Nice. Endorsed by McCarthy. Enough said.

Maybe he will get enough Democrats to be elected Speaker. The House is busy counting noses to ensure they have enough votes. The media can applaud it as bipartisanship. This is all about money and looting. It has nothing to do with the wants of the general public. This shouldn't be called governing, and they shouldn't be called a government. Why would I bother voting if this is all there is? What an awful joke. You cannot fix this.

Byron Donalds is an option but he’s MAGA so there’s no way the idiots in Congress would choose him.

Looking back, Kevin McCarthy is probably looking pretty good to Matt Gaetz right about now. Sometimes, you need to be careful what you wish for as your wish will not come true!

On one level it is certainly fascinating watching the republican party self-destruct on another level it may be a good thing. Electing this traitor Emmer cut from the same rhino cloth as McCarthy would be a thrust up in our face middle finger by these so-call republicans to their voters. It really is time to start a new party. How is the big question.

Okay. Did they all leave the room agreeing to vote for their selection? If not, they wasted their time. And ours. I doubt the Dems will provide even one vote for the nominee, I know that if I were a Dem, I wouldn't.
Remember rule #1 of politics -- if your opponent is making a fool of himself, stand back and let him keep doing it, And rule #2, taught to me by my HS history teacher over 50 years ago and still true today. Never underestmate the ability of the national Republican party to screw up a sure thing.

Worst possible choice. No surprise, they're the stupid party and haven't a clue. On the other hand, the d's are the evil party and know exactly what they are doing.

The so-called republican party knows exactly what they're doing, and they don't have the best interests of their constituents, or America, in mind. These people are absolute poison and 100 times worse than the godless demonrats.
Sticking with McCarthy would've been just as bad as an Emmer Speakership, and the rinos are squarely responsible for all the treachery.
Hopefully it's not too late for Republicans around the country to wake up, extract their heads from their nether regions, and get rid of these rino clowns in the primaries. Unfortunately, my guess is we'll see the same buffoons on the ticket for the general election in 2024. Bye-bye America. It was nice knowin' yuh!

Well, if this isn’t a giant kick in the teeth, what is? Republicans are worthless and this bunch is a special kind of stupid. Working with George Soros plus he is not a fan of the Electoral College? Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I wonder how Gaetz and the other 7 will vote. The main info I have heard about Emmer is he is a big fundraiser and I’m sure their funds are low now. Looks like the “Rinos” are in charge.

He won't get freedom caucus votes. Maybe he'll get dem votes, but if he does, the republican party is finished. Well, I've thought that for a while now. So, RINOs will probably be there for another generation, or two or three. Some folks said, oh I bet Gaetz is regretting things now. I doubt it. Stand for principal. If that means your party shows itself to be gutless, so be it. Republicans need to be exposed. It's only then that they can be voted out.
