It’s an Empire State of decline.
Beset by high taxes and quality of life woes, 545,498 New Yorkers left for other states in 2022, according to US Census data.
Top destinations included Florida — the most popular choice — followed by New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania as well as more distant states like Texas and California.
The exodus was partly offset by more people moving to the Empire State in 2022 than any year over the last decade, with 301,000 new residents making the transition.
Despite that uptick, New York still suffered a net population loss of 244,000.

The people leaving had the means to do so which also means that they were mostly, productive taxpayers. The ones moving in? I don’t know who they are, but NYC is running off their tax base while hemorrhaging money to take care of illegals flooding in. I wouldn’t set foot in NYC is someone gave me tickets to every Broadway show and a private jet to fly me there.

i hope that the half-million ex-New Yorkers enter their new home as refugees, and not missionaries for liberal, socialist concepts. They really should have their eyes opened as to why they are fleeing the Empire State and register as Republicans in their new homes.

I was one of them.
I was already a snowbird. When COVID hit I sheltered in Florida, and it was 30 months before I returned home to New York. Why return to the state hardest hit on a perpetual lockdown? When I did, I sold my house in 3 days. I had a deal in 3 hours. I had already left my job in New York. There was nothing left for me in New York. Jobs were leaving New York. There could have been a national economic recovery and New York probably would never see it. The climate did not help my health. In New York I had 5-6 bouts of A-fib a year. In Florida, only one bout of A-fib (once I stopped the COVID jabs). New York no longer fit the plans for my life.
New York is an unattractive place to live and gets worse by the day. What's the governor doing about that? NOTHING.

We have noticed a few cars with New York license plates here in western Colorado, too. While I don't think my town is on their radar, California and Nevada would be of interest to them. But a few of them would certainly have an interest in the People's Republic of Denver.

So, they should have plenty of room for illegal aliens. Texas should send them a few million more. It is only fair since so many New Yorkers are fleeing to Texas.

According to my niece who lives in Florida, the problem with all these people fleeing New York is that they're bringing their politics with them. They never learn!

With Hatchet running NYS, it's really no wonder that they left.

546,409 equates to how many seats in the House? Too bad the census was done in 2020 for federal representatives. Take away those seats from NY, NJ, PA, and CA and give them to Florida and Texas.

Let's hope all 549,498 of them were not leftist locusts. If we lose Texas and Florida to them the country is gone.

They are a disease that is spreading. Their annoying mugger accents, their obnoxious speech patterns and aggressive attitudes ruin everyplace they go. I had a car load of them stop and ask for directions while I was mowing my yard a couple years back. Their innocent question came out and sounded like a threat. I worked with one who was incapable of shutting up, and took offense at anything that didnt completely agree with his position. He bought his first gun, a little baby garter gun, and acted like the reincarnation of Wyatt Earp. No thanks. Stay home.

Both Hochul and Eric Adams are going to assume that "slapped with a Flounder" look in April of next year when they find out how "unexpectedly" low that the tax intake is going to be from the remainder of the working population, those who could not afford to move out. They will be crying for a bailout from a federal government that will also be broke by then. How will Eric cover those big raises he just awarded to the principals of his failing school system?

OPEN LETTER TO REFUGEES TO FL: Leave your destructive politics behind. Don’t turn FL into what you left. We don’t need your politics that destroy everything it touches. Barring that, stay where you are.

#2, I am with you. However, I have noticed when liberals start coming to a conservative neighborhood, they immediately get involved in politics and it’s the same old same old leftist garbage. I live in a very small conservative community that has recently been invaded by liberals and they are very active and pushy. That is not our way here, but we are learning to push back against their agenda. It’s a battle though. They are determined. When they lose, they never stop. They just try to find another way. Their attitudes are so arrogant and they will not be persuaded that we don’t want what they are selling. They see us as rubes and they are here to save us from ourselves.

Actually, #8, we now have 589,000 more Republican Voters than Democrats here in Florida. I think those who moved here during COVID decided they didn't want to live under Democrat Rule ever again! Can't blame them! Now, if we Floridians could convince the New Yorkers that they don't have to drive like they did in NY and they don't have to be as Loud as they were in NY! Change takes time!

This has been going on for quite some time. New York had 47 electoral votes in the 1940s. Now it's down to just 28. Instead of sounding the alarm bells, Democrats have doubled-down on their destructive policies.

I understand why they'd move to FL and TX but NJ? Doesn't NJ have the same issues (high taxes, crime, corruption) that NY has?

I left NJ almost 20 years ago for the Space Coast of Florida ( Brevard Co). Never regret it for a day. But I take no joy in seeing NY deteriorate as it has. There was a time when California was a destination for millions but liberalism destroyed it too.
Eventually, most of the country will become 'New California' because there isn't enough push back and the avalanche of stupid liberal politics is pervasive.

NY lost a House seat in the 2020 census, and likely has lost at least 1 more since.
They are now being over-represented in the House, and places like Florida, Texas and Tennessee are being under-represented in the House.
Now, how do you think the Democrats would be reacting if it was the reverse story?

Left Chicago years ago along with 500,000 others...good hard working tax payers...so the rat mayors have been piling on the welfare to those left behind....it's all about votes and dead men voting in Cook County...NOW there's nothing left but crime and homelessness creeping into the suburbs and making more move outs possible...

I completely understand! There's only one word why people stay in NY - FAMILY. That's it.
I HOPE & PRAY those leaving NY are leaving their liberal ideologies in NYS & not infecting anyplace else with them!
