Former baseball star Steve Garvey announced Tuesday that he will run for the late Dianne Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat as a Republican. (snip) “I like to think of myself as a concerned citizen. I started seeing a severe dysfunction in Washington. Career politicians were focusing on the business of politics and not the people,” he told the outlet. (snip) Democratic California Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee will likely be running for the competitive seat.

Mr. Garvey, if I lived in Cal, you'd not only get my vote, but plenty of campaign dollars. Good luck, sir.

A noble effort, Steve, but if you plan to run as a Republican in this state you're wasting your time, energy, and money.

Arm wrestling heck. How about a dual with shotguns at 20 feet.

Good luck, best wishes for success, but it's one of the craziest parts of Crazyfornia. Just saying.

They have a "jungle primary" which means the top 2 candidates running, regardless of political party, run against each other.
It's something Democrats work hard to ensure they have the top 2, and work their votes accordingly, to block out any Republican challenger.
This then opens up their ability to allocate resources to fight the battles where they might win.
One thing that the GOP will need to do in California is to make sure they go out an educate the voters regarding one of the top political issues, abortion.
They need to make sure everyone realizes that it's enshrined into the State Constitution, so it's not a political issue that will have any impact on anyone's vote any longer. People can vote on all of the other issues without concern "that one vote may take this right away".
The other issue will be to make sure every candidate is pro-environment as this is a key issue for many in that State, and used against Republicans.

for once!!!! please, all you people in California who are voting in November 2024, please vote for Steve Garvey, he was a stand up baseball player and now he's proving that he's a stand up citizen
--- he deserves to hold the seat that was only warmed by Diane Feinstein and not used as platform for the benefit of the people of California or the people of the United States
--- California has had enough of the demcommie party - sanity must be installed in that state with more republicans holding more and more political seats at every level of government

Expect Garvey to be severely and unrelentingly raked over the coals for his past infidelities.
It’ll be LA media's obsession.

Steve hasn't played ball in almost forty years. He's a grand guy and a good Catholic. Just a prince of a man, But he would need divine assistance to win in that sorry state.

Whenever Steve was up to bat it was exciting, he was likely to clear the bases. I expect the same now.

here's the test: skip the vote fraud contest, and make the candidates surf Mavericks. may the best man win.

Normally, I would say that he has no chance of winning, but every week brings another disaster courtesy of the Biden administration and the Democrats. LA and San Fran are cesspools, taxes are high, crime is high, as is inflation. Perhaps even the kool-aid drinkers have had enough.
