Ron DeSantis, who was in California to speak to the state's GOP, appeared with Bill Maher on Friday evening, and it went well.
Pressed on everything from COVID-19 to abortion, the Florida governor had the liberal audience cheering at times as he delivered conservative answers. It only took a few seconds for DeSantis to get his first round of applause, touting that he made vaccine mandates illegal in Florida. Given Maher's skepticism about left-wing COVID hysteria, that was a smart strategic play to soften the room before getting into the tougher questions.
Maher took a few shots after, which shouldn't anger any Republican because that is the point

To me denying the 2020 Grand Theft is the next step after the Russia Collusion./ Steele Dossier affair. At this point, frankly, indistinguishable from treason against the American People.

Ron DeSantis is one of the most competent Republican governors. It's too bad he has been relentlessly bad-mouthed by so many in his own party just because they want him to stay out of the upcoming presidential election. We need more like him, given the sorry state of political leadership in our country.

I completely agree, #2. Unfortunately, he shot himself in the foot by getting in with the wrong crowd. What a colossal waste.

DiSantis had it all. He was in line to be president. Then he hooked up with the Bushes. He won't recover from that.

Pardon my skepticism toward the lib applause but I think their new found "conservatism" is taunted with their TDS disease of anyone but Trump.

I also agree #2. But the biggest issue in this campaign is the coup being perpetrated by The Establishment against President Trump. Desantis is far too faint in his objection to those actions, and seems to be exploiting them for his own gain.

I also agree with #2, and would respectfully suggest to # 6 that the biggest issue (to use an inadequate word) in this campaign is not the despicable persecution of DJT, but the salvation of what is left of our republic.
Trump may be on course to win the nomination, but of what value is that if he can't win the general election? I agree with DeSantis - he (Governor Ron) has a fair shot at winning the election while Trump has next to no chance.
The Coup of 2020 is a done deal, and Trump will never have an opportunity to exact his right and proper personal revenge. That's a bitter pill to swallow, but to save the country we should accept it and go with a fresh ace, a solid conservative who can appeal that great Mush Middle of the electorate which has largely become disillusioned with Biden and the Dems.
A President DeSantis could effectively clean house, pardon Trump if necessary and get the country back on track.
...And don't be shocked or surprised if DES pulls off a couple wins in the early primary contests.

I guess I'm the only one that finds leftists cheering for De Santis to be not a particularly good sign for people of a conservative bent.

With respect to #7, to Governor DeSantis, his supporters and my fellow Americans: The "salvation of what is left of our republic" is personified in the "despicable persecution of DJT".
Should the Deep State be successful in its persecution of President Trump by overcoming his brilliant intellect, decades of experience in the cutthroat world of New York real estate, depleting his vast wealth and resources; do you honestly believe if Governor DeSantis is allowed to win the election, he would be allowed to oversee a MAGA driven agenda for America? The obvious answer is; no. At this moment in time, Ron DeSantis does not have the personal or political strength to go against the Deep State and win. It's a pity he listened to the Bush's. If he had stayed focused on Florida and his second term, if he had stayed MAGA and defended President Trump, a citizen of his state, when Mar-a-Largo was invaded by the FBI...well, things may be very different all they way around.
As President, Donald Trump gave us secure borders, brought our soldiers home from foreign wars and started no new ventures. We had 1.5% inflation and 3.5% GDP, with home mortgage rates below 3%. We were energy independent, and oil exporters. We had the highest employment rates across all demographics, including the disabled who had the most working handicapped persons ever recorded. In the process President Trump sacrificed his personal life, wealth, family relationships, and now his own freedom for us...his fellow citizens. He has put it all on the line. As he often says; they are really after us, he's only in the way. Donald Trump does not need to ask for my vote. He has earned my vote. More than earned my vote. He has my loyalty.

We owe it to the guy who proved himself and, on our behalf, got punched in the face every minute since he came on the scene. His first two years the punches came just as hard from Republican's. Blame Paul Ryan for the unfinished Wall and McCain for Obamacare. The Never Trumper's in Washington protecting their own little Biden-like schemes.
I liked DeSantis. He looked like he had the stuff, but the blow-back he got for the things done in Florida will be nothing if elected and he tries to implement anything near Trump's agenda. His donors will pull him back and he needs his donors.
Trump is older and far wiser now. He will trust his gut and be very wary of "advice" from any Washington based sources. I think the only thing he was guilt of was believing that, regardless of party, everyone had the country's best interest at heart. He knows now that that isn't the case.

#'s 9 & 10, you can praise President Trump to the sky and I will agree with you on every point.
But the unremitting Deep State assault (IMO) makes it impossible for him to win the general election. Opinions about him have hardened and, let's face it, he is going to be unjustly convicted of phony baloney "crimes" in more than one jurisdiction.
The Great Mush Middle of the electorate who decide (honest) elections and get their "news" from the MSM or Yahoo or wherever will never vote to elect him. And if we lose in '24 it's Game Over for the republic.
You both underestimate DeSantis. This Floridian can tell you that he is the real deal. He's smart, he knows what is at stake and he has an iron will. All this talk about the Bushes, Rove etc. is pure nonsense.
I will vote for either Trump or DeSantis in November next year, and I hope you both will as well. But I don't want to go through a reprise of 2008 and 2012, and to win we need as candidate who can unite the entire GOP behind him and appeal to the Great Mush Middle as well. Again, IMO, DeSantis can pull that off, Trump cannot.

Your words are echoed from millions of patriotic American hearts, #9!
If DeSantis had been the man I thought him to be, I believe he would have stood strongly with Trump. Not because of Trump the man, but because of everything Trump stands for regarding America & all that he proved could be accomplished for America while in office.
The fact that DeSantis chose instead to side with NWO proponents tells me that his presidency would do nothing toward restoring our Constitutional Republic. His friends wouldn’t allow it, even if he were to try, & he doesn’t have the experience or the wherewithal to stand against them. His only chance to accomplish that was to stand with Trump. I’m sad about that. I had placed a lot of hope in him because of his governorship of Florida. But, Florida is only a state, no matter how well governed. It isn’t America - just as W proved after he moved into the WH from the governor’s mansion in Texas. I will always be thankful he was there instead of Al Gore on 9/11, but it took me way too long to believe what he was showing about his true loyalties, & it still breaks my heart. I can’t see how going down that same road with DeSantis would lead to a different destination, considering his traveling companions.

Reading all these posts makes it all too clear why the GOP is so screwed up.
