The concept of the state delivering cash payments as reparations to the descendants of enslaved African Americans is opposed by California voters by a 2-to-1 margin, a poll released Sunday reveals.
This insight into public reaction to offers of cash settlements shows difficulties await state lawmakers when they begin to consider the idea already flagged for action next year.
The UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, found some 59 percent of voters oppose cash payments compared with 28 percent who support the idea. The lack of support for cash reparations was resounding, with more than four in ten voters “strongly” opposed.

The breakdown by political affiliation is interesting.
FTA:Among Democrats, 43 percent favored and 41 percent opposed cash reparations. Republicans were strongly against the proposal at 90 percent with only five percent in favor. Independents were 65 percent opposed and 22 percent in favor.
If Republicans and Independents could join forces, they would rule the state.

Doesn't matter. Our government has stopped listening to the public. The real story behind reparations is who will get the money. In other words, social activists. It's probably nothing more than a kickback to those that prop up our government. The poor will remain poor, and the people with the right 'connections' will get richer.

Sure when they get the reparations, bill them for all the added costs they have caused the state, that bill would be 100x any payment.
A poll of voters is not the same as votes counted. I'm sure it would pass any state wide vote.

Reparations:
Single use passport.
One way airfare to whatever country takes you and yours.
Ocean freight of whatever you claim to own to the same country.
No return, at all, ever, for you and yours.
All the money in the world will not make you happy here. So go be happy someplace else, at our expense. Money well spent.

Lyndon Johnson started the reparations for blacks in the 1960s with Great Society, Affirmative Action and War on Poverty programs, but is so far not enough for some people.

This is California, where judges and courts are notorious for overturning the will of the people. Prop 8 (marriage between a man and a woman), prop 187 (no public services for illegals) - both passed overwhelmingly and were soon struck down by the judiciary. In this case, I can see a defeated ballot initiative subsequently getting green-lighted by a judge in the name of civil rights.

Polls schmools..... polls only matter if they show approval for democrat positions. If polls mattered, abortion would be universally banned after 3 months, men wouldn't be allowed to compete against women let alone in the locker room, we would have universal voting ID, charter schools would have ended public schools, the border would be secure and illegal immigrants wouldn't be collecting welfare or getting drivers licenses.
What this poll actually does is give Democrats cover for paying lip service to reparations without actually doing anything.

Poster #4 is absolutely correct. Any reparations (God forbid) will not go to people, it will go to 'community activists' to be spent how they deem fit. Which means mansions, yachts, vacations etc. Take a look at what the leaders of the so-called BLM movement did with the money they got from stupid people.

this shows that there is a bit of a dichotomy of political values in California and it shows that that "dichotomy" is never in place when there is an election for anything other than minor level statewide issues,
ie: presidential races - the Republican will never win in California and the last "Republican" was Ronald Reagan(1981-1989) with resounding wins in California in both elections against Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale
wouldn't it be nice if (in an honest election) our President could pull off an upset win in 2024 with the help of the people of California?

The Democrats have been on the wrong side of history (and polling) on every substantive issue since the end of the civil war. The reparations were the dead union soldiers who ended slavery and the Congress who amended the Constitution after the civil war. No further reparations are needed or required. The only way the Democrat Party can win is by ballot box cheating.

Incredibly stupid to say that people who never owned slaves somehow owe money to people who never were slaves...and never even MET one.

Newsom is betting that he will be off and running for president when this stuff hits the fan.
His task force made the recommendation and they now expects him to carry it out.
If he does accept their recommendation, the state will be bankrupt and the taxpayers will turn on him. If he does not, he is exposed as a liar who told people what they wanted to hear.
Enjoy
