If it Saves One Life and Other Meretricious Lies

It’s not unusual that power-mad politicians justify depriving us of liberty using the appeal to emotion:“If it saves one life.” Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo justified the statewide shutdown with this poppycock: “And if everything we do saves just one life, I’ll be happy.” Former president Obama said “If we save even one life from gun violence, it’s worth it.” Then vice president Joe Biden endorsed that: “As the President said, if your actions result in only saving one life, they’re worth taking.”

The love of money is the root of all evil, and this is the cause of so many of our extremely serious problems today. The other being the lack of moral character and integrity. Maybe I am nuts, but the Michael Douglas 1980’s movie, Wall Street, had a part in starting the blatant drive for accumulating wealth with one line, Greed is good. From then on it seems to me caution was thrown to the wind and attaining wealth was the single motivation for success. Not knocking success, but it seems that something switched in the American psyche that gave some individuals permission to do whatever it took to make huge amounts of money. They were the ones celebrated. Since then, the country has taken a nose dive when it comes to ethical behavior on many fronts. Nothing is important as the bottom line and corporations like BlackRock and Vanguard that support whatever agenda makes them money regardless of the harm it causes are celebrated. Sure, it is all about money, but that insatiable appetite for wealth has done a whole lot of harm. Partner that with a corrupt government and you have systemic corruption that is a existential threat to the Republic.

Biden could have saved 13 lives by planning the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Pelosi could have saved 2 lives and the ruination of 3,000 families by accepting Trump's offer of 10,000 National Guard. Biden could have saved millions of lives around the world by allowing ivermectin and HDQ for the treatment of covid, and being honest that many of the cases were flu, and pneumonia. Biden could have saved the population of Ukraine by not starting a war with Russia. Biden could have saved many babies by agreeing to the sanctity of life. This is a short list.

Yes, Rinktum (reply#7), the love of money is, indeed, the root of all evil. I know two men who ruined good marriages (their wives are related to me) because of their love of money. The wives were devastated and the children, although not seemingly damaged psychologically, have been deprived of a stable family life. Both gave it all up by having affairs with women with money and got found out.

Why is New Jersey So Corrupt? A Corruption

The dramatic indictment of Sen. Bob Menendez on federal indictment charges raised a slew of questions about the New Jersey senator’s political future in Washington, as calls for Menendez’s resignation proliferate among his Democratic colleagues in the Senate. But for New Jersey, the indictment raised a different question: Why can’t the Garden State shake its reputation as one of the corruption capitals of the U.S.?Of course, that reputation is partly the product of Hollywood hype, with films like On the Waterfront and TV shows like The Sopranos depicting the state as a hotbed of political duplicity and deceit.

Overall, 44% say that based on what they know, Congress should begin impeachment proceedings that could lead to Biden being removed from office. Forty-seven percent say it should not.

Perdue eventually lost the GOP gubernatorial primary in a landslide.
