Fox News reportedly informed the Trump campaign on Monday that surrogates for the former president will not be allowed to attend the first Republican primary debate. The barring of Trump surrogates from attending Wednesday’s debate at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee comes one day after the 77-year-old former president confirmed that he would not participate in the event, which will be aired on Fox News, CNN’s Alayna Treene reported on Monday. The ex-commander-in-chief’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., had said Monday that he would be attending the showdown as a surrogate for his father. His fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, was also

Well, yeah, if Trump doesn't want to play in the debate game, I don't blame FOX for refusing to entertain his surrogates. And I'm pro-Trump and understand why he doesn't want to play the debate game .. just yet..

Either participate or don't. Surrogates are not necessary. I won't be watching regardless. I want to know what you have planned to get America out of this black hole. But I am afraid it will just be a "we are not Trump" pity party.

Petty is not a good look for any news organization but, Fox is taking it to the next level.
I will not watch the debate on principle. I’ll wait and catch the “pearls of wisdom” that will be on the internet. How can these corporations continue to shoot themselves in the foot like this?

If Fox wants to shrink their potential audience even further, it's their call, stupid as it may be. But hey, they didn't get into the hole they are in today by being smart.

Makes sense to me. If you don't have time to participate, don't. Don Jr, Kimberly, Kari et al are not running for president. President Trump should come and show everyone what kind of candidate he's going to be. This isn't 2016 and he needs every vote he can get.

Trump should attend. It’s true that he has a lot of loyal supporters but he also has a lot of detractors who need to hear directly from him in a bigger setting than a local rally that is only attended by his fans. He is not God.

How about reviewing the facts. FOX invited Trump to participate. Trump chose not to because everybody already knew what he stands for and what he's accomplished. No problem there. Then FOX announced that in his absence they might incorporate video clips into the debate---a reasonable way to let Trump speak for himself---in his own words, already on record.
Then it was announced that Don Jr and Kimberly will be attending the debates as surrogates. FOX says nope. Have the debates now been catapulted into a Vegas spectacle or a circus sideshow? Is that what we really want?
It's easy to get distracted over all of the pushback. But remember that Trump CHOSE not to participate in the debates. Give him credit for having a brain and being able to make decisions he thinks are best. He certainly knows that when he decided not to participate he would not have any control over what happens when he's not there. Let it be.

I don't blame President Trump for not participating. The Republican elites, working with FOX and Ronna McDaniel, have set up this debate as a shooting gallery, targeted at Trump. They have all decided that Trump cannot win against Demented Joe, so they are there to take Trump down. They'll still try it in the debate, but they'll be shooting their bb guns at videos of Trump, not to his face. He won't be there to serve as their target practice. Better for the media to criticize him for not showing up than to celebrate his defeat (you know they'll call it that) as he walks away, "downcast and beaten." There's also the fact that when President Trump hits back, he hits hard, and that brings on the MSM criticism that he's "petty and thin-skinned." Doesn't make him appear "statesman"-like.
President Trump has little to gain by showing up, and much to lose. The conservative electorate has become wise to the the Republican Party's overburden of RINO money-grubbing liars who talk a good fight but quickly cave in to the Democrats once they're elected. I think DeSantis is a genuine conservative and willing to fight, but he's beholden to the demands of his big campaign donors. Christie, Pence, and others clearly are the type to do an about-face once they're elected. Trump is less beholden to his campaign donors than almost any major Republican candidate for high office over the last 30 years.

Trump at maybe 60% declines to debate a rack of ankle-biters mostly polling in single digits, and we pretend to get huffy about it?
THEN the ratings games begin. FOX constructs a Trump surrogate (video clips) for the ankle-biters to attack. It's FOX's way of keeping Trump in the debate, obviously, but Trump counters (as I see it) by interviewing with Tucker in absolutely wicked counterprogramming, and sweet, cold revenge for Tucker, not incidentally. Tucker I'll be watching, disclosure here, and I'll read about the FOX show in the Epoch Times, per #10 above.
FOX lashes back as Trump spies in the audience, because that's all they can do. Democrats make hay as best they can, considering their standard bearer can barely complete a sentence, much less govern.

further in pettiness Larry Elder is not allowed to participate because one of his qualifying polls is Rasmussen - which they say has some unknown Trump connection. i think he is suing.

Trump is missing an opportunity to present himself and his ideas before the voters. While he is way ahead with Republicans he is neck and neck, at best, with Biden. Against a senile, corrupt and incompetent President that has presided over the decline of our country, the Republican on track to be nominee should be miles ahead. Trump, so far is not connecting with the majority of Americans. Skipping the debate is a bad move. Sending surrogates in his stead was craven and was rightly shut down.

Craven? Trump is anything but. I agree with his decision 100%. Back stabbers & ankle biters all. I hope viewership is in the septic tank. My advice, boycott fox and cut the cable. Take the family out to dinner with the money you save. I have. Miss the sports, not the liberal narrative in the news. Hope everyone has a good rest of the week.

How did Fox sink so low...this is a stupid move...it's like a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum because they are losing....any republican who wants to go to the debate should be given free access...and to stop them at the door tells everyone exactly what the crazy Murdocks are all about...I'll be watching Tucker and President Trump....and Fox planning to show "doctored" footage of President Trump will only taint the procedings even more...if that's possible....so stack the audience in Milwaukee with the lefties who "claim" to be Trumpsters...so they can ooo and ah at Crispy Creme Christi when he trashes President Trump....

Won't be watching; I haven't tuned into Fox since 2016 --- why break my streak now? I'm pretty certain that post-debate the analysis by commenters on this site will be more on-point and cogent than what I'll find from the MSM.

What is everyone so worried and upset about? Trump and his surrogates will still be heard loud and clear. I really wish the other candidates would not even mention Trump and instead, talk about how they can get the country on the right track again. Trump already thinks he’s won, so he can do what he wants. I do hope he is trying to increase his base or he will lose.

Participating in the first 'debate' is pointless. Trumps views, ideas and plans are already known
and he is in effect, already an 'incumbent' in that regard ! We know what he has done and what
he plans to do so ........... The sheer number of 'participants' adds to the overall confusion, arguments, contradictions, yelling on and on.
Walking in and trying to 'debate' this group of wanna-bees is pointless. Similar to walking into the
lions den wearing a pork chop overcoat - nothing to be gained and we all suspect the deck is already
stacked so.....................again, pointless.
I doubt this circus will change anyone's mind !

Reality Check
President Trump ~ Just how many individuals criticizing President Trump for refusing to participate in this first debate (and perhaps other debates that follow) honestly think it appropriate to place President Trump, his family, and his remarkable, esteemed presidency in a mix of presidential hopefuls quite likely to denigrate him as a man and as a president along with a moderator panel beholden to a news network that clearly undermines President Trump at every turn? Add to that the deadline of August 25th for President Trump to surrender to the Fulton County, Georgia jail two days after the debate for allegedly breaking 13 criminal laws in Georgia. Lest anyone forget, there are three other indictments plaguing President Trump (Stormy Daniels, Mar-A-Lago Classified Documents, 2020 Presidential Election Outcome) so it isn’t that President Trump spends his time lollygagging.
Donald Trump, Jr. ~ Just how many individuals criticizing Donald Trump, Jr. for wanting to be on site for the Milwaukee debate to be readily available should any news source approach him for his comments to defend his father would object or ridicule their child for wanting “to be there” for their parent in a time of need or uncertainty? There is no doubt the questions put to the debate participants will elicit the most negative rhetoric possible to destroy President Trump; there should be no illusions that questions prepared for or by the moderator panel will be biased as well as designed to destroy President Trump.
Instead of being armchair campaign advisors or critics, regardless of personal or political feelings toward President Trump, this country’s future is at a perilous juncture and needs every patriotic American regardless of personal feelings or political party to come together to try to get President Trump resoundingly reelected on November 5, 2024. Beyond that, to stay and work together to help him try to bring this country back to economic, military, and social stability with secure borders, restoration of law and order, and adherence to the U. S. Constitution for future generations. Further, patriotic Americans wanting to save this country need to give President Trump a strong, cooperative Congress that will work with him to try to save this country as founded in tribute to the Founding Fathers and all who gave their lives to preserve and protect this country.
Worthy reminders, two quotations from Dietrich Bonhoeffer:
“God's truth judges created things out of love, and Satan's truth judges them out of envy and hatred.”
“The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor, theologian, anti-Nazi dissident, and key founding member of the Confessing Church known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship that included vocal opposition to Hitler's euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of the Jews. Pastor Bonhoeffer, at the age of 39, was hanged on April 9, 1945 as the Nazi regime was collapsing.
