Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter might need a chiropractor to help him with the budget whiplash he’s witnessed during two stints in the job. First under DFL Governor Mark Dayton when he had to help solve a $6.2 billion budget deficit and then under DFL Governor Tim Walz when he helped craft a plan to spend or give back nearly $18 billion.

Possibly the most talked about bill during this year’s legislative session, the recreational marijuana bill, was signed into law on Tuesday.
Joined by state lawmakers and other advocates, including former Gov. Jesse Ventura, Gov. Tim Walz signed the legislation during a ceremony at the State Capitol to make Minnesota the 23rd state to legalize recreational marijuana.
“Jimi Hendrix is looking down on Minnesota smiling today,” Ventura said while pumping his fist.

I was born in Minneapolis, graduated from the University of Minnesota and have lived in the Twin Cities essentially my entire life. So when I sold my business and took early retirement in 2017, planning to get away from the Minnesota winters, I always thought I'd remain a resident of the state I love that had provided me so much. (snip) The last reason I'm leaving Minnesota is because of a lack of hope. I'm a realist, and realism tells me there's nothing more I can do to help prevent Minnesota's decline.

At the Capri Theater in north Minneapolis Saturday, there was a celebration of a new state law.
A law that restores voting rights to Minnesotans who’ve served time in jail or prison.
“It’s long overdue that we’ve corrected this injustice,” declared Antonio Williams, of St. Paul. “I think it’s long overdue. We talk about our democracy, we talk about inclusion, but we haven’t truly lived it as a government.”
A ‘Restore the Vote’ gathering was hosted by The Power of People Leadership Institute. (snip) On March 3, Governor Tim Walz signed the Felon Voting Rights Bill.
