The Ranks of Gun Owners Grow, and So
Does Their Resistance to Scrutiny

Original Article

Believe it or not, people are reluctant to tell total strangers about their potentially controversial activities. In particular, Rutgers University researchers say, gun ownership is something many Americans decline to reveal when questioned by people they don't know. That's especially true of women and minorities newly among the ranks of gun owners amidst the chaos of recent years. Academics are unhappy that privacy-minded respondents impair their understanding of the world we live in, but such evasion is an inevitable consequence of decades of fiery debate and punitive gun policies.

Comments:

I think all of us here know better than to tell total strangers how many firearms we have.

The picture at the top of the article shows an 1911 style hammer fired pistol being "Mexican"-carried directly over the spine without a holster guarding the trigger. You just can't break any more gun safety rules than that. For one thing, if the gun carrier gets knocked on his tailbone with the gun in there, he might be paralyzed from the waist down when the gun breaks his back. This article is full of good sense, but that picture kills the entire intent of the article. Even some of the 2A supporters are idiots if they carry this way.

It is none of their business. They are more than likely compiling a list like the Germans did. That list was supposed to be destroyed before Hitler came to power. It wasn't so his brownshirts went around and disarmed anyone who was Jewish or did not tow the party line. We all know how that worked out.

Gun owners intuitively understand that registration is only one-step removed from confiscation. This is what makes the recent armed raid on records from a gun shop even more worrisome as a backdoor approach to registration.

One other thing: His finger is on the trigger as he is drawing, Mexican carry at six o'clock. Unintended discharge alert! The picture ass model--they wouldn't dare show his face--for this article might not kill himself if he shoots himself in the butt while speed drawing, but that could not possibly feel good.

I'll explain it to the academics. When the government makes it's inevitable move to attempt complete dictatorship we want to make our pushback as big a surprise as possible. Re #3, the gun is a double action Beretta 92, with the hammer down, so relatively safe, but putting finger on the trigger before removing it from the waistband is stupidly dangerous, even though the trigger pull is about 10 lbs or more. Never put your finger into the trigger guard until on target and ready to fire.

Trump reiterates: There will be blood 1 reply

Six months ago, Donald Trump presented us all with a Rorschach test by predicting a “bloodbath” if he loses the 2024 election. “Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it,” Trump said while discussing the economy and his tariff plan. “It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.” Those on the left largely took Trump literally, citing how his supporters have risen up violently before, on Jan. 6, 2021. Those on the right argued that Trump was just speaking figuratively. The latter said he was talking about a metaphorical bloodbath.

The Biden administration's scheme to threaten the public with tightened gun-control regulations by reinterpreting laws to mean what they never meant in the past is running into some speed bumps. Stumbling over one of those obstacles is an attempt by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to define unfinished firearm frames and receivers—functionally, paperweights—as firearms for the purpose of regulating homemade "ghost guns."

You know insurrection is a crime, right? Just to recap, under Section 2383 of the federal criminal code, a person is guilty of a felony, punishable by up to ten years’ imprisonment, if he incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto. And why do we need a refresher on this? Because the Department of Justice has been investigating Donald Trump and the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot for nearly three years, yet no insurrection charges have ever been brought against Trump or anyone else.

Some ideas are so terrible that combining them into a cocktail of awfulness makes rotten sense. So it is with gun control and qualified immunity: Why not mix impunity for violating basic rights with denial of a specific right so as to maximize the harm? At least, that's the inspiration that struck two law professors who propose qualified immunity for enforcing even overtly unconstitutional gun control measures. While the duo sees the idea as much as a means of weakening officials' protections from liability as for promoting restrictions on private arms, it's a dangerous innovation that could entrench authoritarianism.

A couple of years ago, an "80 percent" receiver I purchased refused to accept parts, let alone chamber and fire cartridges, until my son and I drilled and milled it to completion; that's because unfinished firearms are not firearms. For a long time, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agreed. But, pressured by the Biden administration, the ATF tried to extend firearms regulations to a lot of things that aren't guns but could, with work, become one. Now a federal judge is injecting some sense, ruling in a lawsuit that bureaucrats can't just decide that inert objects are guns.

Irked by Congress' failure to enact the gun control laws he favors, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is proposing a "28th Amendment" that would "permanently enshrine" those policies in the U.S. Constitution. This transparently partisan publicity stunt is wholly impractical and raises more questions than it answers.
