Major legal rulings that dismantled the use of race in college admissions, undermined protections for LGBTQ people and tossed out President Joe Biden’s student debt relief program marked the end of a Supreme Court term in which the conservative supermajority continued to exert its dominance. The majority also doubled down on a controversial legal theory that limits the power of federal agencies to take unilateral action. Meanwhile, the justices rejected a far-fetched argument that would have limited the role of state courts in election disputes and turned away an aggressive attempt to challenge Biden administration immigration policy – both areas in which lawyers on the right might have overreached in their arguments.

France is on fire again. For over a week, rioters in urban centers across the country have looted and torched stores, public buildings, and vehicles. French law enforcement has cracked down on the destruction, arresting thousands of the rioters.

The corporate media have done their best to stress that Merzouk was a generally good kid who didn’t have a criminal record, liked to play rugby, and was studying to become an electrician. Yet he attended a school for troubled kids.

But the historical upcoming CELAC-EU summit is facing an unexpected amount of discord over a range of issues, most notably the stance on the war on Ukraine.

On July 8th, New York Times columnist David French, strained to apply a human face on Trump supporters, but I don't think I am giving him too much credit when I infer a connection to Biden's vicious attack on Pres. Trump and MAGA Republicans of September 1, 2022. The writer summed the Trump years (from 2015 to the present) this way: "Everything is normal until, suddenly, it's not."
Early in his Philadelphia remarks, Biden said:

When discussing widespread problems in the profession, instead of presenting an actual argument, those who reflexively defend the industry will often mention having friends or relatives who are teachers, as if this anecdotal tidbit is a meaningful response.

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is trying to put one over on America.
In her dissent from the high court’s long-overdue ruling against racial preferences in college admissions, she cited an utterly bogus statistic.For high-risk Black newborns, having a Black physician more than doubles the likelihood that the baby will live,” she wrote in rationalizing Harvard’s bigotry against Asian-American applicants.
Yet that black-infant mortality number is obvious bunk.
If it were true, it would mean thousands of black infants dying every year thanks to white doctors’ secret racism.
But the actual survival rates are 99.55% for black infants, 99.68% for white ones.

The number of students who identify as LGBTQI+ at Brown University stands at just under 40% of the total enrollment, the institution’s Brown Daily Herald reports.
