Former New York state Democrat Sen. Alessandra Biaggi took to social media Friday to discuss the pricey student loans she had amassed during law school, despite purchasing a $1.14 million home last summer. "In 2012, I graduated from Fordham Law School with $180,000 is student loan debt," Biaggi wrote in a tweet. "I’ve been paying loans for 11 years. Even paid two of them off completely." "In 2023, my balance is $206,000," added Biaggi, who represented New York's 34th district during her three-year tenure in the state Senate.

$180k loans, 12 years of making payments, compounding interest...owes over $200k. That is Loan Shark action...with Uncle Sam as the Mob Boss. Someone as "Smart" as an elected official might have considered paying down or paying off such loans, particularly during a long period when personal loan interest rates were near zero...for high net worth/income clients. "You Owe me? I OWN you"...Mob Rules.

Can someone refresh my memory -didn't Obama do something major to the way student loans were handled - which was supposed to 'fix' everything by putting gov't in charge? And weren't the bulk of these loans already in some distress even before pandemic? I wonder how things would be now if he hadn't.

The loan forgiveness was for people making less than $125,000/year. This lady is a lawyer and making less than $125,000/year????? Must be a terrible lawyer. And, if she made loan payments for 12 years and owes more now than 12 years ago, she has been making the bare minimum payments, not even paying the interest each month. As Forest Gump said, “You can’t fix stupid.”

In all fairness, it stinks that she has been paying off her loans and they are now more in total than they should be to be honest. I know interest and all is involved, but your loan tally should be going DOWN, not up. But that is the nature of especially government loans. I don't agree with her statements at all, but I do agree it seems fishy to still owe more, not less.

Her loans are assumed to have been equiv amounts. It is possible she had a 170 k loan and 2 5 k loans. She paid off the 2 5 loans, leaving the 170k untouched and garnering interest, resulting in the current 200+k debt. Whatever, someone who can afford a million dollar home can afford to pay off a 200 k debt

Interest rates were at record lows for many years before The HairSniffer got his hands on the levers of Government and immediately ran the Ship of State onto the rocks. If she started out with a $180,000 loan 11 years later the tab is up to $206,000, then she is either stupid (educated far beyond her intelligence) or was scheming to dump her debt onto the Taxpayers, one way or another. Poland is deploying additional police personnel to its border with Belarus to strengthen security, Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski said on Sunday. Kaminski wrote on Twitter that "due to the tense situation on the border with Belarus I have decided to bolster our forces with 500 Polish police from preventive and counter-terrorism units." Their deployment will be in addition to 5000 border guards and 2000 soldiers monitoring the security of the border, he said. Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who is also the leader of Poland's ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS), said last week he believed there were 8,000 Wagner troops already in Belarus.

From the Supreme Court to America: Happy Individual Independence Day. OK, the court didn’t actually say that, but its key rulings did. The final cases rang out with a consistent clarity that the Constitution favors individual liberty over group rights and government power. The distinction is what helped make America different from the start, yet to witness the hysterical outcry against the rulings, fewer and fewer Americans understand the founding principles. Either that or they want to trash American exceptionalism so they can force everybody to think alike.

“Disappointing and cruel.” Those words from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) after the Supreme Court’s rejection of the Biden administration’s loan forgiveness program may say more than the opinion itself. The court’s “cruelty” was in supporting Congress’s core constitutional power of the purse. Schumer’s disappointment in having to address and vote on the forgiveness of hundreds of billions of dollars in loans speaks volumes about the collapse of our constitutional values.

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson hardly feigned interest in adjudicating the constitutionality of affirmative action in her dissent today. Remember all that talk about Jackson’s “progressive originalism?” It’s not a thing. Instead, Jackson offered more than 9,000 overwrought words of leftist social commentary, “expound[ing] upon the universal benefits of considering race in this context.” Her embrace of identitarianism and defense of Asian-American discrimination is jarring. Jackson believes state-funded institutions should judge Americans by their immutable characteristics and historical sins rather than their individual accomplishments and actions. It’s really that simple.

Republican presidential candidates are applauding the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court's conservative majority to severely limit the use of race in determining college admissions. In a 6-3 decision announced on Thursday, the justices ruled that the use of race as a factor in college admissions was a violation of the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause. The Supreme Court's ruling upends decades of affirmative action programs that colleges and universities had used to select students. The result is critical of both President Trump and President Biden saying they failed to plan appropriately for the withdrawal. The report is sharply critical of the U.S. government’s handling of the most serious evacuation crisis since the fall of Saigon. It says President Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump, each failed to appreciate how a U.S. military pullout would affect the Afghan government’s stability, and that standard summer diplomatic rotations in the weeks ahead of Kabul’s collapse left the U.S. evacuation in the hands of personnel who in some cases had been in the country

Everyone in life faces disadvantages of one form or another. Almost all children get called an unpleasant name or two in grade school. Some are oppressed by a drunk, abusive, or absent parent. Others may be trapped in horrific schools or extreme poverty. Still others are simply not gifted with high IQs or the ambition to work hard and succeed. The list of reasons why most people don’t go to Ivy League schools and then on to lucrative careers is long, and “oppression” comes in many forms.
