Sec. State Blinken ordered this review of the department’s response to the Afghanistan withdrawal. The result is critical of both President Trump and President Biden saying they failed to plan appropriately for the withdrawal. The report is sharply critical of the U.S. government’s handling of the most serious evacuation crisis since the fall of Saigon. It says President Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump, each failed to appreciate how a U.S. military pullout would affect the Afghan government’s stability, and that standard summer diplomatic rotations in the weeks ahead of Kabul’s collapse left the U.S. evacuation in the hands of personnel who in some cases had been in the country

The U.S. is expected to announce as early as Friday that it will provide controversial cluster munitions to Ukraine as part of a new military aid package in the fight against Russian invaders, two U.S. officials tell ABC News.
The decision to send the munitions will be made by President Joe Biden. Numerous countries have banned the use of cluster munitions, which can risk civilian deaths and injuries when bomblets fail to initially explode after being deployed. The weapons pack such bomblets into rockets, bombs, missiles and artillery shells that break apart midair and scatter the munitions over a large area.

Walt Nauta, an aide to former president Donald Trump, pleaded not guilty on Thursday in a Miami federal court to several counts of mishandling classified material and conspiracy to obstruct justice, following Special Counsel Jack Smith’s indictment.
Nauta was present when Trump appeared in court on June 13 – when the former president pleaded not guilty to 37 federal counts, including over two dozen violations of the Espionage Act – but was not arraigned at the time due to lack of legal representation.
Nauta did not speak to reporters outside the courthouse on Thursday following his arraignment.

U.S. District Court Judge Terry Doughty issued a preliminary injunction on Tuesday blocking some federal agencies and officials, including the FBI and DHS, from communicating directly with social-media platforms. The temporary injunction specifically named high-ranking White House appointees, including DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency leader Jen Easterly.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) blasted Ben & Jerry’s anti-American 4th of July message and said the leadership of the company hasn’t studied its history enough.
On Independence Day, Ben & Jerry’s Twitter account posted a message pushing for the return of “stolen Indigenous land,” including Mount Rushmore, located in South Dakota, to Native American groups. Attached to the tweet was a company article that said Mount Rushmore should be returned first, linking to a petition to return the iconic American landmark.
