Former US President Donald Trump has sued the writer E Jean Carroll for defamation, alleging she falsely accused him of rape after a jury found he sexually abused her. Last month, the civil jury in New York found he sexually abused and defamed the columnist but did not rape her. Mr Trump's claim, filed on Tuesday, relates to comments Ms Carroll made on CNN a day after that verdict. When asked about Mr Trump's liability for rape, she said "oh yes he did". The claim is seeking a retraction of that comment as well as unspecified compensation and punitive damages.

When it comes to rape accusations, it should be taken up in the court of law not in a civil court. Suing for reimbursement without finding Donald Trump guilty is all about reaping the rewards. . .

Interesting legal issues here. She failed to prove rape in her suit by a low civil court standard (more likely than not). She will likely be bound by that finding in Trump's case, meaning that her subsequent statements are already proven false.

Unless you have unlimited resources and legal immunity (ie, the government), suing Donald Trump is really not a good idea. For all his good or bad, I think his hobby is lawsuits. Some people collect stamps, some people go fishing, and Donald Trump likes to sue people. And he's usually pretty good at it. Heck, he got a judgement against a stripper/

"Former writer". Has anyone read anything she wrote? She's a psychotic old bat who sees rapists everywhere. A friend's sister was like that. She seemed more or less normal to talk to, but she often insisted she had been raped. She'd go to the hospital and tell the police, all that, but there was no evidence or real possibility she'd actually been raped.

In the decades during which I have followed politics and social issues, I have seen passionate disagreements among Americans. The Vietnam War was the focus of massive protests. Unenforced laws, including immigration and retail theft, have left us feeling betrayed by our government. The list goes on. Somehow, we survived. For some, one of the more notable attributes associated with the idea of there being a God is the binary choice He is said to have offered mankind: be His friend, and you'll be blessed by Him for eternity; choose otherwise, and you'll be left with an eternity that, at best, will be damned regrettable...to say the least. Through the ages, many have wrestled with the rightness or wrongness of this concept, including the scientist and mathematician Blaise Pascal. It was he who put the real issue on the table with what has come to be known as Pascal's Wager:

In the latest episode of Tucker on Twitter, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson made a rather bold prediction about the 2024 election. Carlson pointed out that the recently released WhatsApp messages from Hunter Biden to his Chinese business partner proved that Joe Biden was involved in (or at the very least knew about) Hunter Biden’s influence-peddling schemes. He called the messages a “smoking gun” that “would have been enough to cripple a normal president, would have been more than enough to keep a normal president from running for office again,” yet they had “virtually no effect on Joe Biden.” Why? Because the mainstream media relentlessly defends him from his scandals.

The Supreme Court’s decision in Moore v. Harper to reject the independent state legislature theory could give Special Counsel Jack Smith a free hand to bring charges — including, possibly, against President Trump — in respect of efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. By a 6-to-3 vote, the high court held that notwithstanding the Constitution’s Elections Clause, the national parchment “does not exempt state legislatures from the ordinary constraints imposed by state law,” meaning that state lawmakers are bound by state constitutions and the judges who interpret them.

The Supreme Court has ruled that it is unlawful for colleges and universities to use race as a factor in admissions, overturning rulings from as far back as 1978 that claimed institutions of higher education had a valid interest in promoting racial diversity on campus and could thus give favorable consideration to black and Latino applicants in their admissions process. Two separate decisions were reached in which the nation’s highest court ruled that Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill engaged in unlawful discriminatory practices based on race that violated the Constitution.
