Monday, the nineteenth of June, is our newest federal holiday (just 2 years old), Juneteenth, and federal workers get yet another day’s pay without having to work for it. Since the federal workforce is heavily overrepresented with black workers (18.2% of the federal workforce versus 12.6% of the population), the words “disparate impact” come to mind, benefitting African Americans with a paid holiday that not too many other employees get, judging by the fact that I was able to book two appointments with service providers tomorrow before I even realized Monday was holiday.

Another meaningless holiday for the entitlement addicts and Affirmative Action gravy train recipients.

I'm retired now, but when I was still working it was widely perceived as a joke. It was just an opportunity for a free day off or double time pay. Like several other politically based or racially based holidays, nobody celebrated it.

"Juneteenth" sounds ridiculous. Just another made-up government employee paid day off.

It would be nice if Father's Day could also be celebrated on Juneteenth.

How fitting that I have a dental appointment on Juneteenth. Pain and grief in one setting. Kind of like a funeral.

If you remind someone that the post office is closed tomorrow, they will almost certainly say: For What?!?

Wait till the Feds decide to make up holidays for all the 'brown masses' arriving from the south.
Expect that Congress makes "Cinco de Mayo" a national holiday to satisfy the Mexican restaurant lobby who makes millions every year on this fake event.
Wait till the Indians from India, not Native Americans, demand a holiday for some Hindu 'god.'
Speaking of that, why do the blacks have TWO Federal holidays made up for them, while Native Americans have NONE?
We can't forget our massive Muslim imports to these shores, courtesy of the Democrat globalist elites. They will most certainly be demanding a 'Mohamed Day; at some point
Federal holidays that need to go away -
1) Juneteenth
2) Martin Luther King Birthday
3) Labor Day

#12, add on Presidents’ Day. There is no way I am honoring numerous presidents. We need to go back to Washington and Lincoln’s birthdays. I know that those are not paid federal holidays, but we still need to change it back.

#12, in Mexico Cinco de Mayo is nothing, it's a Tex-Mex holiday that's celebrated only in America. My church has a very large Hispanic community and the holiday they celebrate is the feast of Our Lady of Guadeloupe, on December 12th. But that would be way too religious for the progs. They hate Christmas enough as it is.

Blacks have a month and now two federal holidays: MLK day and this ridiculous Biden panders to the blacks holiday and still - they lag in academics, two parent homes but excel in gun violence in cities in which they still elect over and over, Dem politicians who promise them a lot and deliver nothing.

Enough of the black made up holidays already. Between this and Kwanza a guy has no idea what to wear. Holidays are meant to celebrate something; celebrating the obligation to support a large portion of the black race in America just doesn't bring out that festive feeling in me.

Hm. Hubby will either cue up "Gone With The Wind" or "Gettysburg" tomorrow and probably request fried chicken. He's rather sensitive to those cartoon holidays.

Funny how Father's Day and Juneteenth come back to back. One, as the old joke goes, was the most confusing day of the year in the Ghetto, and the other celebrates nothing since Jan. 1st 1863 is when blacks were freed by the emancipation proclamation and also by the end of the Civil War which occurred in April 1865.

It became a State Holiday in Texas in 1980, prior to that it was a big "Family Reunion" date all across the state. Some places were former plantations that were gifted to the slaves by the owners on June 19, or soon after. Other locations were lakes, and the beaches in Galveston.
Media makes much of it being two 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, but it was only 3 months after the last defeat/surrender of the last major Confederate army(Lee had already surrendered) Basically it "Celebrates" that the mail was late in being Delivered to Texas, by not delivering the Mail in the rest of the country.
It was NOT the end of slavery in the USA, Joe Biden's Delaware( as well as parts of New Jersey. and Kentucky) were the last Legally hold slaves...not freeing them until Dec 19th.
Joe Biden's Delaware prides itself on being “The First State” for ratifying the Constitution before any other, but it was among the last to ratify the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery, waiting until February 1901, more than 35 years after the end of the Civil War.
The social programs instituted by Democrats destroyed the Black Family, and Juneteenth was a day of Family Reunions. Now it is a Skinfolk, not Kinfolk event...and ALL of your children belong to the Govt. not to their families..at least that is what Joe Biden claims.

I doubt most even realize, or know, why it took until June 19th 1865 for the posting of Emancipation in Texas.

It's ridiculous, but we pay for the holiday. It's optional where I work, so I take the day. I do it to make the kissers of the bent overs pay.

If you live in a city ruled by liberals, getting ready means having a loaded weapon, locking all windows and doors, and staying inside all day.
