House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) came to Trump’s defense over reports that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been weighing potential charges against the former president for his alleged conduct during the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the U.S. House Speaker said he does not see any reason for the former president to be found criminally responsible for January 6. “I don’t see how he could be found criminally responsible,” McCarthy said. “What criminal activity did he do? Donald Trump’s favorability among Republican and Republican-leaning voters has fallen from 75 percent in July 2022 to 66 percent in July 2023, according to a new Pew poll.
Conversely, while only 24 percent of Republican voters surveyed thought of Trump unfavorably in July 2022, that is now up to 32 percent in the latest poll.
Among the broader voting public, the former president’s unfavorability has remained largely stable. Whereas 60 percent of Americans did not hold a strong opinion of him in July 2022, today, that is only 63 percent following his legal woes.

Washington — Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith’s team has contacted Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, whom former President Donald Trump pressured to overturn the 2020 election, a Kemp official told CNN.
“I can confirm our office has been contacted by Jack Smith’s office, but we will decline to comment further at this time,” Andrew Isenhour, a spokesman for the Republican governor, said in a statement.
Smith’s team contacted Kemp’s office this week, according to a person familiar with the outreach.
The Washington Post was first to report Smith’s reach-out to Kemp.

Ziegler, a registered Democrat who has over a decade of experience as an IRS case agent, laid out the corruption he saw involving the Hunter Biden investigation. The FD-1023 suggests that a Ukrainian businessman from the Burisma energy company allegedly paid Joe Biden through shell companies, and hired his son, Hunter Biden, in an effort to help remove a prosecutor who was investigating the company.
