Idaho murders suspect Bryan Kohberger waived extradition on Tuesday during a brief court hearing and is expected to be transported back to the college town where he is accused of murdering four college students in cold blood.

On election night, I was half-watching Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s victory remarks when something quite extraordinary and encouraging caught my attention. DeSantis evoked Churchill’s “fighting on the beaches” speech, in which Churchill stirred the resolve and patriotism of the British people in anticipation of the invasion of their homeland by the Nazis. DeSantis, of course, was not warning against Nazism: he was warning against wokeism, which he was implicitly equating with Nazism. I had never heard a national political figure treat wokeism with such (deserved) gravity.

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy signaled he was done negotiating with his detractors in an effort to win the speakership during a tense closed-door meeting on Tuesday morning, according to a new report.

McConnell, 80, will remain the Republican minority leader in the 118th Congress and thus eclipse the late Sen. Mike Mansfield’s time as Democrat leader from 1961 to 1977.
McConnell overcame ten Republican “no” votes in November to remain minority leader. The votes against McConnell marked the first time McConnell had received a “no” vote as leader, a sign the GOP has begun to turn against his establishment agenda.
“I don’t own this job,” McConnell claimed after the vote. “Anybody who wants to run for it can feel free to do so.”
House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) rejected House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid hours before the vote for speaker of the House.
Perry had spent much of the holiday break negotiating with Leader McCarthy and other conservatives on a potential compromise that would lead to McCarthy to become the next leader of the House. However, Perry said in a written statement on Tuesday, hours before the speaker vote, that McCarthy has not demonstrated any “desire to meaningfully change the status quo.”

Concerns about vaccine safety are much higher among the unvaccinated. However the vaccinated appear to be waking up to the harms of the shots.

Jeremy Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries needing emergency surgery after a snow plow accident in Reno, Nevada, with his agent outlining Tuesday the actor is now in intensive care and recovering.
His condition is described as critical but stable.
A publicist for Renner said in a statement seen by the Associated Press the 51-year-old Avengers star is in an intensive care unit following surgery on Monday.

Teams, players and coaches from around football flooded social media with support for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
The 24-year-old collapsed on the field after a first-quarter tackle during the Bills’ “Monday Night Football” game against the Bengals in Cincinnati. Hamlin was administered CPR on the field before being taken to a local hospital and was in critical condition, according to the NFL. The game was suspended by the league.
Hamlin suffered from cardiac arrest, the Bills announced.

The 24-year-old safety tackled Bengals receiver Tee Higgins near the end of the first quarter of their “Monday Night Football” matchup. Teammates frantically waved in medical staff as the situation quickly grew dire, and an ambulance rushed Hamlin off the field and to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in what quickly became a terrifying scene.
Hamlin received CPR on the field and is in critical condition.

Wendy, a homeless woman, dove into the homeless crisis in the city in a new way by explaining how the nearly open-air drug policies are bringing more tents onto the streets.
Portland currently has more than 700 homeless encampments across the city within less than 150 square miles, and the ordeal has also led to the skyrocketing use of cocaine, heroine, LCD and meth which officials decriminalized in 2020.
