Most creepy iPhone setting needs to be adjusted

Every app on your iPhone comes with a certain set of permissions depending on what the app is used for. For example, Instagram will ask permission to access your camera and photos app so you can take and post pictures, while WhatsApp will ask for access to your microphone to send voice notes. Some apps take it further asking for your "precise" location. It's imperative to know what exactly they're asking you for. What's the difference between precise and approximate location? Apps within Apple devices have two different location options that they might ask permission for. One is your approximate location, which just gives an app a general area where you're located

I decided in the 1980s that I would never own Apple products, based on their totalitarian view on using their personal computers. This "There is only ONE way to use this, that is the RIGHT way, and it is the APPLE way!" attitude for all their products works for many people who just use the device as they are told to use it. But, if you have some idea of using it a different way - get a non-Apple product. Many friends love their Apple products, and wonder why I normally have no comment on their gushing support for the company. And sadly, Rush was a huge Apple fan. He was never a tech guy, more of a fan of tech, and was awed by their stuff. I disagree, but overall - it's not a fight I choose to make. I just don't buy them.

I have had to turn off Siri in multiple locations on my iphone. They make you search for it over and over again. I put tape over the camera lens on my laptop. I disable any voice activated feature on a remote or a phone. I got off of facebook and instagram. You can't get rid of all their snooping, but you can minimize what they can do. If you have an Alexa or ring cameras inside your house, or sent off you DNA to be tested.....you just don't get how much information they are collecting on us.

Former President Trump broke his silence on the ongoing election for speaker of the House Wednesday morning, as Republican leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has so far failed to secure enough votes to become speaker. "Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN," Trump posted on Truth Social. "CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA,THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ‘HOUSE’ TWICE! REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT.

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan got it exactly right in his speech re-nominating Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House ahead of the second ballot Tuesday afternoon: The voters gave the Republican majority a clear mandate, and honoring that should be the top priority of every GOP member. “To my friends here on this side of the aisle, I would just say this. The differences we may have . . . pale in comparison to the differences between us and the left, which now unfortunately controls the other party,” the Ohioan thundered. “So we had better come together and fight for these key things.”
DeSantis Goes to War 9 replies

On election night, I was half-watching Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s victory remarks when something quite extraordinary and encouraging caught my attention. DeSantis evoked Churchill’s “fighting on the beaches” speech, in which Churchill stirred the resolve and patriotism of the British people in anticipation of the invasion of their homeland by the Nazis. DeSantis, of course, was not warning against Nazism: he was warning against wokeism, which he was implicitly equating with Nazism. I had never heard a national political figure treat wokeism with such (deserved) gravity.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump & The New York

Even to a jaded journalist, the New Year inspires hope that anything is possible. In that spirit, here are my three wishes for 2023. No. 1 is Joe Biden announcing he won’t seek re-election. It would be the first thing he’s done to fulfill his pledge to unite the nation, with a decision to retire worthy of bipartisan celebration. Biden is a bumbler, and always was, even before cognitive decline turned his appearances into spectacles. The big achievement of his tenure has been to prove the wisdom of two warnings about him.

What do all our notable fabricators—George Santos, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama—have in common? Well, quite like the Ward ChurchilIs or Rachel Dolezals of the world, one way or another, they lied about their identities. Or they sought fraudulent ways of suggesting their ancestries were marginalized. Or they had claims on being victims on the theory their constructed personas brought career advantages. George Santos claimed, apparently in search of a victimized status, that he was an “American Jew” and a “Latino Jew,” and a descendent of Holocaust survivors. Joe Biden lied that he went to “shul” as well

Illinois law enforcement is preparing new ways to best serve and protect law-abiding citizens as the state’s new sweeping criminal justice reform bill takes effect Sunday, a local sheriff said. "We've spent a lot of time trying to prepare for what's coming," Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon told Fox News. "Trying to sift through a thousand pages to determine where our role is and what's going to change and how we can best serve the citizens that we protect has been first and foremost for us." Illinois' Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today (SAFE-T) Act, which went into effect Jan. 1, overhauled Illinois' justice system with provisions like limiting when defendants

In the full-contact sport of politics, there are always winners and losers and 2022 was no exception. Among the winners this year are House Republicans, who won back the majority in the U.S. House and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who was re-elected with a stunning 59% of the vote in Florida. And then there are the unlucky ones on the other side of the ledger who drew the short straw this year. And to that end, here are the biggest political losers of 2022. 1. Russian President Vladimir Putin. When Russian President Vladimir Putin made the ill-fated decision to invade Ukraine in February 2022, he did so with the belief

Why do they do it? Who needs to lie like this? I am thinking, of course, of Representative elect George Santos. But also of the whole lot of them. Of politicians as a species. Why do they feel the need to make stuff up? It must be admitted that Santos is emerging as the undisputed top of his class of fibsters. To date he claims to have attended a prestigious Bronx prep school which has no record of him ever being there. He claims to have graduated from Baruch College, despite never having enrolled there. He claims to have worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs but never did.
The Republicans’ Mitch McConnell Problem 35 replies

One of the annoying tendencies of our conservative-populist movement is to conflate objective evaluations of individuals in the arena with the approval of those individuals. For years, I have found Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell to be a frustrating and imperious charter member of the GOP establishment while simultaneously being the best parliamentary leader we have had in living memory. He has done important things for the movement. I get a lot of grief for saying, “You must love Mitch!” but that’s fine. We need to be objective instead of emotional – we’re not Democrats. And he was objectively skilled and effective once upon a time.

Poor Kamala Harris. The press refuses to focus on “the strength of my leadership,” as the veep puts it, denying her the attention she deserves. OK, we’ll give you a minute to stop laughing. Harris has made zero progress on her top priority — stopping the flood of migrants rushing the border, supposedly by addressing “root causes” in their native countries — yet apparently she thinks she’s been an important leader in other ways. Such as her role at the Munich Security Conference in February just before Russia invaded Ukraine, as the Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart bizarrely suggested. Trouble is, she did little there besides getting mocked for claiming Europe

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy signaled he was done negotiating with his detractors in an effort to win the speakership during a tense closed-door meeting on Tuesday morning, according to a new report. Several House Republicans doubled down on their promises to oppose McCarthy’s bid after the meeting, which was held ahead of what is expected to be a lengthy vote for the speakership. As many as 20 House Republicans may oppose McCarthy’s bid, according to reports. The California Republican will need 218 votes if every current member votes for a candidate by name — a difficult task with the party’s razor-thin majority in the House.
