House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) rejected House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid hours before the vote for speaker of the House.
Perry had spent much of the holiday break negotiating with Leader McCarthy and other conservatives on a potential compromise that would lead to McCarthy to become the next leader of the House. However, Perry said in a written statement on Tuesday, hours before the speaker vote, that McCarthy has not demonstrated any “desire to meaningfully change the status quo.”
The House will convene at 12:00 P.M. ET, at which the chamber will start the roll call

I don't trust McCarthy, but Trump seems to trust him, which amazes me.

At this point, I'm all for anything that shows the Republicans are as messed up as the Democrats. Far too many voters blindly trusting one party or the other. Once recognized, hopefully cleanup can begin.

Enough of these squishy RINOs. We need new conservative leaders.

Might as well bring back Paul Ryan.

Why is it so hard for McCarthy agree to what the freedom caucus asks for. It seems reasonable to me. It would be nice to have at least 2 of the things he is asking for.

Why can't McCarthy step aside and allow someone else a chance to run things? Why does he insist on it being him?

At this moment, democrat Jeffries is leading McCarthy in votes on the House floor. The purists are helping elect a democrat as speaker.

Ths little rebellion is ridiculous at this critical time. Biggs is not getting many votes. A nice man, he is not equipped to do what has to be done. The Freedom Caucus really wants Jim Jordan, but he doesn’t want the job and has endorsed McCarthy as has Steve Scalise. These moronic Republicans could throw it to Dem Hakeem Jeffries. Dems unite; we futz around “making statements”…and lose.

It shows clearly what McCarthy is by him refusing very reasonable concessions requested by the Freedom Caucus at the start. It won't get any better, if he is the Speaker. No. We do not need a Rino. We need a Speaker that WILL shut down the government if spending limits are reached.

All that Republicans are doing with this sad display of disunity (which should have been dealt with behind closed door (like the Democrats) is to show everyone exactly why they did not do better in the mid-term elections. Republicans are their own worst enemy. They are finally given the chance to lead and what is their very first action? Infighting for some elusive "principals" that nobody can put a finger on but are positive that McCarthy doesn't have. The five so called "principaled" Republicans are going to throw the Speaker of the House position to Democrat Hakeem Jefferies. I'm sure that Jefferies will take their principals and concerns under advisement when setting the agenda.

Sure, the five principled Republicans are going to give the speakership to the Dems. Well, thanks to other Republicans in the Senate, they in effect, gave the house to the Dems by voting for that Omnibus bill that tied the hands of a Republican House until 1 Oct. 2023. In the meantime, the Republicans are having their various oversight hearings (lots of yelling and beating of chests but no actual action taken to hold any one accountable as DOJ will suppress their subpoenas and any referrals) and in the meantime. As the economy gets worse, etc., all the legacy media will highlight is that the Republicans "control" the House and things are getting worse.

The House Republicans are looking as bad, if not worse than the stupid Democrats. I’m fed up with all of them.

The Republicans opposing McCarthy are doing so on "principal" and claiming that they want a true conservative. Yet, they refuse to say who they would rather have in place of McCarthy. In fact, those opposing McCarthy are pretty much refusing to say exactly what they want that would be acceptable to them. Republicans are acting like like a bunch of feral cats that need to be herded and have no desire to be corralled. The Democrat and media attack dogs will go after these feral cats and take them out and end up ruling the roost in their place.
