Facial Recognition Software Leads to Mistaken
Arrest of Georgia Man

Anyone who has ever seen a Hollywood dystopian action flick knows that the more automated life becomes, the closer we are to huddling in giant, underground cities while an elite few humans battle the machines for dominance of the planet. When it comes to law enforcement activities, the use of artificial intelligence takes on a particularly sinister feel. San Francisco recently suspended its killer robot program after Americans discovered it has an actual killer robot program. Robotic aids, not unlike those sent in to examine and contain bombs, had been approved for use against violent suspects in some “extreme situations.”

Comments:

It seems to me that this could be a Fourth Amendment issue.

Both Louisiana and Georgia PDs as well as the software developer should be sued for multiples of billions, yes billions. This is an example of 4th and 5th amendment violations. There has to be a reputable lawyer who would take the case on contingency.

Facial recognition is just as much totally marketing BS as "self driving cars". Both are horse manure, software where the marketing hype has convinced many of capabilities that the software DOES NOT HAVE, and is not likely to EVER have, at least in the next 40-50 years.

The guy should get some sort of compensation for his being arrested and jailed, but millions? Maybe $10,000. But he probably won't get a penny, and certainly not an apology. Wonder how long he was in jail... if it was NYC, a couple of hours, even if he was guilty.

Gee, humans have never made a mistaken identification and arrest before. It's not artificial intelligence, it's matching pixels of photographs, no thinking required.

Let’s end the first week of 2023 with a laugh. There’s a video clip of a routine the late comedian Robin Williams used to do about Joe Biden during the days of the Obama administration. The video gets dusted off every now and then to remind us that we were warned about Joe Biden during the years before he was elected president. Yet, here we are. Joe Biden is president and getting the last laugh. Here is the video, with a warning. Beware of incoming F-bombs. [Video] That was back in 2009. Biden has only gotten worse.

Between 2018 and 2022, movie theater attendance dropped in half, and I do not want to hear any excuses about the pandemic. People will go to the theater to see a movie that appeals to them. Spider-Man: No Way Home proved this last year. Top Gun: Maverick proved it this year. Avatar: Way of the Water is proving it right now. And those are just the blockbusters. People also crept out of their homes to see Everything Everywhere All at Once ($69M), Elvis ($151M), Uncharted ($148M), Nope ($123M), Where the Crawdads Sing ($90M), The Woman King ($67M), Free Guy ($122M), The Lost City ($105M), and Ticket to Paradise ($68M).

A newborn baby was surrendered to Florida’s “first and only” Safe Haven Baby Box at Ocala’s Fire Rescue headquarters, “marking the first time it has been used,” WKMG-TV Click Orlando reported on Thursday. Safe Haven Baby Boxes founder and CEO Monica Kelsey, Ocala Mayor Kent Guinn, and Ocala Fire Chief Clint Welborn announced news of the surrendered baby during a news conference on Thursday morning and praised the resource for helping to save lives. “I’m so happy to hear of this miracle baby,” Guinn said. “I knew when we did this in 2020, this day would come. We all did. We just didn’t know when.

Did you know it’s January 6th? No, I don’t mean the date itself. I’d suspect most people know how to use a calendar, but did you remember that today is a day of remembrance supposedly on par with 9/11? Yeah, me neither. As my colleague Susie Moore did, I completely forgot that today was that January 6th, and needless to say, Joe Biden’s attempt to remind everyone did not go well. I mean it really, really did not go well. For instance, the president apparently doesn’t know “January 6th” occurred on January 6th. Instead, Biden brought up “July 6th,” a day that will apparently live in infamy. [Video]

J.K. Rowling can’t lose. Despite attempts by the transgender mob to cancel, break, and destroy the “Harry Potter” author, Rowling seems to best them at every turn and most of the time it’s by sitting back and doing nothing. Case in point, the upcoming action/adventure video game “Hogwarts Legacy” has been generating unceasing hype since its announcement and with each and every demonstration, it only gets more popular. As RedState reported back in August of last year, the pre-orders for the collector’s edition sold out within seconds of being available.

The House speaker circus remained intense on day three, with Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) remaining incapable of cobbling together the votes needed to win. He’s still short of 218, with some 20 Republican House members firmly entrenched in opposition to his speakership bid. The motion to adjourn barely limped passed the finish line, subjecting us to another media day where they claim a deal is close between McCarthy and this bloc of Republicans who are not budging. These 20 rebels have forced the lower chamber to have debates in the last 36 hours than in the past 18 months. The failure of McCarthy to secure the votes is his fault.

As Democrats continue their idiotic mantra that Jan. 6, 2021, was a “deadly” attack on “democracy,” there are some victims about whom the Democrats would not like to talk. That would include the two Trump supporters who died in the riot, Ashli Babbitt and Rosanne Boyland, and the still-abused Jan. 6 political prisoners. Yes, there continue to be victims of Jan. 6, 2021, to this day—over 950 people charged for activities related (sometimes very loosely) to Jan. 6. As PJ Media’s Robert Spencer reported in October, 34 of the Jan. 6 prisoners held in inhumane conditions petitioned to be transferred to Guantanamo Bay because they are being treated worse than terrorists.

I have, on several occasions, warned the younger, woke, angry generation that one day, the machine would come for them. And lo and behold, it has. Although I have to admit, I didn’t think it would be this soon. I had given it another 15 years, 10 at best. Man, was I wrong. Because intersectionality works best with a complicated field of eligible candidates with a broad range of grievances, it must also have a steady diet of people to find guilty of the insult du jour. And black men are now on the list of potential offenders. Arizona State University has issued a checklist dealing with Black Male Privilege.

Big rigs and buses made before 2010 are now banned from operating on California roadways. The law, which went into effect on New Year’s Day, was part of a set of clean air regulations the California Air Resources Board passed nearly 15 years ago. According to truck lobbying groups, the new law will prohibit about 10 percent of the commercial motor vehicles that are operating in the state. “The rule applies to diesel vehicles that weigh at least 14,000 pounds. The air resources board said there are an estimated 200,000 vehicles that have yet to comply with the rule just days before the new year, including roughly 70,000 big rig trucks,

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland honored the five Capitol Police officers on Thursday who, he said, died after defending the legislature from the January 6 riot in 2021 — though none were killed during the violence. In a statement on the second anniversary of the Capitol riot, Garland appeared to link the riot to the deaths: “Two years ago, the United States Capitol was attacked as lawmakers met to affirm the results of a presidential election. Perpetrators attacked police officers, targeted and assaulted members of the media, and interfered with a fundamental element of our democracy:

Chicagoans in the Woodlawn neighborhood continue to voice their opposition to the city's plan to place a migrant shelter at a closed school amid the historic crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, going as far as to say migrants should be sent to Latino-majority neighborhoods. Liberal Whites wallowing in revisionist histories have made Whites the racist pariahs of the world, and Americans are ranked the worst. (snip) America is the only nation where people politick to make its long-dead slave past the center of its history. As a historical matter, it makes little sense when compared to the slave sins of other nations. America received 3-5% of the slaves sold in the Atlantic trade. Over 90% were sold in the Caribbean and South America. (snip) There are many nations where slavery played a much more salient role, but it’s not a central part of their history books or even a chapter.

How do you make apartheid sound good? Easy. Just call it the “historic status quo”. Under Muslim rule, the historic status quo by the invaders was to ban Jews from their own holiest site, the Temple Mount. When Jerusalem was liberated, there was a vocal insistence by the Muslims who had launched a war to destroy the Jewish State and by the “international community” that Jews continue to be barred from their own holy site in the name of the “historic status quo”. And if that sounds too unbelievable, here’s Ned Price, Biden’s State Department spokesman saying that Jews must continue to be banned.

Republican Kevin McCarthy has been elected as the new US Speaker after winning the 15th vote following chaotic scenes in Congress. Mr McCarthy's party had taken control of the House – the US lower chamber – following the midterm elections in the autumn, with a slim 222-212 majority. Usually, election of the Speaker follows seamlessly, as a formality, with the leader of the largest party a shoo-in for the job. However, recent splits in the Republican party meant that did not happen until the 15th round of voting. In the 14th ballot, Mr McCarthy received 216 votes - one shy of the number needed for a victory - as a small faction

When the House Jan. 6 committee released hundreds of documents from its investigation online at the end of the year, it inadvertently made public nearly 2,000 Social Security numbers belonging to high profile individuals who visited the White House in December 2020, according to a report. The Washington Post reported Friday that the leaked Social Security information was included in a spreadsheet buried within the "massive cache" of records from the committee's work. Social Security numbers belonging to at least three members of Trump's cabinet, a few Republican governors, and several Trump associates were reportedly compromised. The data was part of the White House visitor logs published by the committee.
