Just hours before the controversial legal overhaul known as the SAFE-T Act was set to take effect in Illinois, the state’s supreme court postponed the bill’s abolition of the cash-bail system.
The SAFE-T Act, set to take effect on January 1, would eliminate the cash-bail system through a provision known as the Pretrial Fairness Act. The provision drew bipartisan criticism, including from many law-enforcement officials who deemed the move unconstitutional and a danger to public safety.
The Illinois supreme court has not set a date to hear appeals in the case, so it’s unclear when or whether the provision eliminating cash-bail will take effect.

The Illinois Nahzees like to use oxymorons to name their bills. Whatever they name the bill the opposite will happen. They've learned well for the Nazi, err Nancy Pelosi.
If I lived in Illinois, I'd load up the family armory.
Safety and fairness towards the felons, none for the workers and the law abiding public.

Thank goodness there are still a few SANE people in this state. I have lived my entire life about 20 miles due west of the city. Except for a very brief period I have always lived within 5 miles from where I was born. We have never had the serious crimes we have experienced in just the past few years. The police have to keep issuing "please lock your doors" warnings because no one is used to the vandalism and theft, home invasions and assaults that have begun popping up in this quiet village.
In my little neighborhood doors have been locked for some time following two home invasion's last year. These invaders were bold, entering through the interior garage door while the house was visibly occupied. In a stroke of good luck for all, both homeowners were hunters and confronted the thieves with shotguns and rifles. In 2019 in the next town over, a 20 year old girl arrived home to find a guy who beat and raped her. She was brave, heroic, and mad enough to call the police, and give and excellent description that led to his capture and conviction.
Of course the guys who were caught have all been misunderstood City dweller's seeking "reparation's."
Our police and local mayors have been the ones fighting the insane "law" and I'm so glad they were successful. How can the legislators vote for something like this (and this is only ONE of the provision's in this law) and face their constituents?

Illinois politicians, most especially in Chicago, and politicians in general, show deference and support to criminals. They consider them kindred spirits and co-workers.

Yes, it's a SAFE-T Act like Obummercare was the Affordable Care Act and Joe's obscene spending spree was the Inflation Reduction Act. Pretrial Fairness Act? Fairness is keeping the animal who committed the crime behind bars until his trial. Clever names do not disguise illegal actions and democrat corruption.

For now. The Illinois Supreme Court is majority Democrat, I believe.

I'd suggest a retrial date on February 29th of any odd year available.

Probably saving a lot of lives. Demonrats seem to think that their most important constituency is violent felons, and don't care at all about ordinary people who will be maimed or killed by these vicious predators when they are released again after being arrested for one violent offense.
This can't be popular, but how long before the average voter recognizes that they are being seriously endangered by Dems and start voting against them?

This bill has George Soros written all over it. Clearly the intent here is to leave all criminals on the streets to continue their destruction of people and property. Most of them will flee the state or disappear and will never be brought to justice. This is one of the most despicable acts by a politician I have ever seen.

Who cares, it Illinois after all. The state should be split in two. Chicago and everything south of Chicago. The hell hole the Beetlejuice governs deserves what they get. After all, they voted for her.

It is a sad day for Illinois...not only do WE deal with a munchkin governor ...but Chicago deals with a thoughtless mayor..who's only quest in life is getting her protection and bought and paid for money every month....but it's okay because she's an angry black gay woman...who wants US to know she's in power whether WE like it or not...thank God I got out of Chicago when obama ran and won....

#2 asks, “ How can the legislators vote for something like this (and this is only ONE of the provision's in this law) and face their constituents?”
Answer: we are in a dangerous era where politicians at all levels of government have forgotten who they work for. The lust for power, money and virtue signalling, feel-good legislative acts have surpassed duty, honor, and country - our tradional reasons for Americans wanting to serve their country and fellow citizens. Until we correct this malady, we are doomed to be governed by people who really don’t care what their constituents think or want.

I thought that state had more sense. Chicago is and has been lost to all reason for decades, but the whole state wants to eliminate cash bail? Whoa!
