Even to a jaded journalist, the New Year inspires hope that anything is possible. In that spirit, here are my three wishes for 2023. No. 1 is Joe Biden announcing he won’t seek re-election. It would be the first thing he’s done to fulfill his pledge to unite the nation, with a decision to retire worthy of bipartisan celebration. Biden is a bumbler, and always was, even before cognitive decline turned his appearances into spectacles. The big achievement of his tenure has been to prove the wisdom of two warnings about him.

Goodwin admits Biden's record is atrocious, Trump's was spectacular and "the press" are liars out to get him and his voters. And just leaves it there before finding a few rocks to throw at the victimized 45th President, blaming him for the mid terms. Whoa whoa whoa Kemosahbee. Back it up a minute. 2 Presidents targeted Trump: Obama and Biden's justice depts. PLUS "the press" to use your 1970s parlance. We're in the 2000s, Goodwin. When you say "press" you mean every print, media, and tech conglomerate that saturates the Earth's atmosphere. These aren't just boxes to tick. Ever hear of twitter? There was actual collusion between the Justice Dept. and private tech companies and news media outlets, to sabotage the entire conservative movement and oust a POTUS. Those are the dark forces we must defeat and the reason no republican can ever be elected. Goodwin needs to update his understanding of media and politics, not just his vernacular. What usefulness Goodwin once occasionally possessed is in the past. Step aside grandpa.

DJT was a great President. I voted for him, but he needs to get out of the way. He simple cannot win a national election. DeSantis could win in his sleep; he has the right policies and doesn't scare the suburban wine moms, and independents. Yes, they will demonize him, but Ron won't give them any ammo to through back in face like DJT always does.

Reason they are slamming PRESIDENT Trump is because they know he can win. And will. Whims DeSantis is a great governor for Florida, he has not proven he could negotiate with foreign leaders. PRESIDENT Trump has experience doing so. DeSantis is a “George Bush “ and Takes money from Dems. Gotta be beholding to those guys, Dontcha know!

Bidet had no mental acuity 25 years ago and now he’s a freakish subhuman. I am concerned about Trump’s age, but not his mental acuity. DeSantis has good press conferences and beat charlie crist in debate, but that’s rather thin. He is a good governor. I’d like to see him do that for 4 more years. I miss the days when people would have a substantial resume and not just run at the first sign of social buzz. Here in Texas, The Gullibles feel the same way about Greg Abbott that they do about Trump. Is It time for Abbott to go? They like buttho orearke and not ted cruz. I guess cruz should go? Maybe those two conservatives have done the same as Trump to make The Gullibles hate them? Or do The Gullibles just hate conservatives without a basis for such hatred? I guess we can always hope that the Dims and the media and the fbi and cia will give desantis a pass. Maybe they’ll let us have desantis. If we’re real nice.

It is amazing to me that any person can honestly say that the 2020 Election wasn’t stolen by Biden and the Democrats. Here in Pennsylvania we had illegal changes to election laws that were made WITHOUT LEGISLATIVE CONSENT, and therefore in violation of both the US and PA Constitutions. The Democrats used Covid to issue unrequested mail-in ballots to voters (I received 3) that were ultimately used to steal the election. But Goodwin writes for the NY Post, and Rupert Murdock, who owns NYP, has gone from a Trump supporter, to a NeverTrumper, and immediately blamed Trump for the midterm election defeats, as has Fox. Trump held no public office for the midterms, but McConnell and McDaniel did, and they supported the Deep State and openly worked against MAGA candidates. Well, Michael Goodwin, it was a lousy article, but should get you a pat on the head from Murdoch.

DeSantis Goes to War 9 replies

On election night, I was half-watching Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s victory remarks when something quite extraordinary and encouraging caught my attention. DeSantis evoked Churchill’s “fighting on the beaches” speech, in which Churchill stirred the resolve and patriotism of the British people in anticipation of the invasion of their homeland by the Nazis. DeSantis, of course, was not warning against Nazism: he was warning against wokeism, which he was implicitly equating with Nazism. I had never heard a national political figure treat wokeism with such (deserved) gravity.

Every app on your iPhone comes with a certain set of permissions depending on what the app is used for. For example, Instagram will ask permission to access your camera and photos app so you can take and post pictures, while WhatsApp will ask for access to your microphone to send voice notes. Some apps take it further asking for your "precise" location. It's imperative to know what exactly they're asking you for. What's the difference between precise and approximate location? Apps within Apple devices have two different location options that they might ask permission for. One is your approximate location, which just gives an app a general area where you're located

What do all our notable fabricators—George Santos, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama—have in common? Well, quite like the Ward ChurchilIs or Rachel Dolezals of the world, one way or another, they lied about their identities. Or they sought fraudulent ways of suggesting their ancestries were marginalized. Or they had claims on being victims on the theory their constructed personas brought career advantages. George Santos claimed, apparently in search of a victimized status, that he was an “American Jew” and a “Latino Jew,” and a descendent of Holocaust survivors. One of the annoying tendencies of our conservative-populist movement is to conflate objective evaluations of individuals in the arena with the approval of those individuals. For years, I have found Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell to be a frustrating and imperious charter member of the GOP establishment while simultaneously being the best parliamentary leader we have had in living memory. He has done important things for the movement. I get a lot of grief for saying, “You must love Mitch!” but that’s fine. We need to be objective instead of emotional – we’re not Democrats. And he was objectively skilled and effective once upon a time.

Poor Kamala Harris. The press refuses to focus on “the strength of my leadership,” as the veep puts it, denying her the attention she deserves. OK, we’ll give you a minute to stop laughing. Harris has made zero progress on her top priority — stopping the flood of migrants rushing the border, supposedly by addressing “root causes” in their native countries — yet apparently she thinks she’s been an important leader in other ways. Such as her role at the Munich Security Conference in February just before Russia invaded Ukraine, as the Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart bizarrely suggested. Trouble is, she did little there besides getting mocked for claiming Europe

As many as 20 House Republicans may oppose McCarthy’s bid, according to reports. The California Republican will need 218 votes if every current member votes for a candidate by name — a difficult task with the party’s razor-thin majority in the House.
