White House responds to plea of interpreter

The White House responded Tuesday to the plea of an Afghan interpreter who helped rescue then-Sen. Joe Biden and two other senators in a 2008 snowstorm, reiterating the president’s pledge to use diplomacy to work to evacuate remaining allies still in Afghanistan who wish to leave. “We will get you out, we will honor your service, and we're committed to doing exactly that,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said. The Wall Street Journal reported the interpreter – only identified as Mohammed by the newspaper – his wife and four children are in hiding from the Taliban after a “years-long attempt” to leave Afghanistan got mired in bureaucracy.

Comments:

He's been unsuccessfully trying to get out for years, exposing another lie. You'd think the Vice President could have helped cut through the red tape at some point during his tenure from 2009-2017. And when the balloon finally went up last month he still couldn't secure a few spots among the 123,000 evacuated - proof positive that "the most successful airlift in history" was about nothing more than numbers.

What Joe says and what Joy does are two different things. You'd have better luck packing a backpack and hoofing it to India rather than wait for help from Joey. We've seen how that works.

What's the value of a Biden promise? The interpreter is on his own, and the sooner he recognizes it, the better off he'll be.

A little side note. I heard on the radio this a m. #4 mentioned mang hung from the Blackhawk chopper, was an American. The tallybon said the guy was in a harness and was putting flags on top of buildings. No flags on hands. Person’s body is limp and CNN went with the tallybon story. Joe said yesterday he’s been telling you to get out since March. Nineteen times to be exact, he said. He said if you’re still there, it’s your own fault. Not his problem.

Through the pandemic lockdown, I shared an evening ritual with a friend: a quick over-the-phone debrief about the episode of "Jeopardy!" we had both just watched, at slightly different times. [snip] My friend and I considered boycotting "Jeopardy!" over this decision, though that would have meant forfeiting our pop-culture comfort food - a meaningless but cherished respite from Everything Else in the World. Happily, we won't have to do that now, thanks to Claire McNear of The Ringer, the reporter and author who diligently did what Sony, the show's parent company, failed to do. McNear vetted Richards with material that was out there in plain sight...

Rep. Nancy Mace had just delivered the kind of red-meat remarks that would ordinarily thrill the Republican voters in attendance here on a recent sweltering evening, casually comparing liberal Democrats to terrorists — the “Hamas squad,” she called them — and railing against their “socialist” spending plans. But asked to give an assessment of her congresswoman, Mara Brockbank, a former leader of the Charleston County Republican Party who previously endorsed Mace, was less than enthusiastic. “I didn’t like that she back-stabbed Trump,” Brockbank said. “We have to realize that she got in because of Trump. Even if you do have something against your leaders, keep them to yourself.”

Reuters has a disturbing report out of Afghanistan this week showing how entrenched the Taliban is in that nation and the brutality they are willing to exhibit to retake control of the country. [snip] Trying to destroy the fighter jets and helicopters we gave to the Afghan Air Force is difficult and dangerous since they tend to be in heavily defended areas. Shooting them down while in flight is also nearly impossible unless you have your own fighter jets or sophisticated surface-to-air missile systems. But if they can manage to kill off all of the pilots, there won’t be an air force anymore.
