The military autopsy of Navy SEAL candidate Kyle Mullen, a Manalapan resident who died hours after completing the grueling portion of SEAL training known as “Hell Week” in early February, revealed the cause of death as pneumonia and indicated that the 24-year-old went untreated until it was too late. Regina Mullen, Kyle’s mother, received the report last week and shared its contents with the Asbury Park Press. [snip] The report names the official cause of death as “acute pneumonia due to Streptococcus pyogenes.” Streptococcus pyogenes is a Group A strep bacteria, which the report says “is capable of causing multiorgan failure and cardiovascular collapse via toxic shock.”

The 10-year Treasury yield pushed above 3% on Monday, a development that will raise costs for the federal government and portends higher rates on mortgages, credit cards, and other financial products. The recent run-up in interest rates on Treasury securities follows the Federal Reserve's accelerated efforts to tighten monetary policy by raising its short-term interest rate target. [snip] Yields on notes and bonds have begun to rise at a rapid clip.

After hearing concerns from students and parents, Patrick Henry High School will reinstate two honors courses that were cut by the principal, San Diego Unified School District officials told families Tuesday. [snip] There are still six other advanced courses missing from the catalog that Irwin had cut last year. Those will not be restored as of yet, according to district officials.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Democrat Abby Broyles, who drew national attention after admitting she blacked out at a sleepover for middle-school aged girls and vomited in a clothes hamper, announced Thursday she's dropping out of the race for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District. Broyles, 32, said in a statement that she is receiving treatment for anxiety and alcohol dependency following the incident at the sleepover and, later, an attempt to take her own life by drinking alcohol and taking sleeping pills. “On the morning of March 2nd, I made the attempt to take my life, but thankfully, God had greater plans for me," Broyles said.

Earlier this week CNN falsely reported that an unvaccinated Texas Man became the first American to die from the Omicron variant. Unfortunately, it appears the Fake News network reported false information again, which in this case, has caused a lot of Americans undue stress as families are scheduled to celebrate Christmas together. Health authorities in Texas are rejecting the story, saying instead the man died with, not because of the COVID variant.

A former US defence secretary has said he was "amazed" by the promise of the blood testing technology developed by the now disgraced Theranos founder, Elizabeth Holmes. James Mattis, who sat on the company's board, also thought it was a mistake when she was first accused of fraud. [snip] Gen Mattis, who served under Donald Trump, was one of a number of political grandees to sit on the Theranos board - in his case between 2013 and 2016. The White House responded Tuesday to the plea of an Afghan interpreter who helped rescue then-Sen. Joe Biden and two other senators in a 2008 snowstorm, reiterating the president’s pledge to use diplomacy to work to evacuate remaining allies still in Afghanistan who wish to leave.
“We will get you out, we will honor your service, and we're committed to doing exactly that,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said. The Wall Street Journal reported the interpreter – only identified as Mohammed by the newspaper – his wife and four children are in hiding from the Taliban after a “years-long attempt” to leave Afghanistan got mired in bureaucracy.

Through the pandemic lockdown, I shared an evening ritual with a friend: a quick over-the-phone debrief about the episode of "Jeopardy!" we had both just watched, at slightly different times. [snip] My friend and I considered boycotting "Jeopardy!" over this decision, though that would have meant forfeiting our pop-culture comfort food - a meaningless but cherished respite from Everything Else in the World. Happily, we won't have to do that now, thanks to Claire McNear of The Ringer, the reporter and author who diligently did what Sony, the show's parent company, failed to do. McNear vetted Richards with material that was out there in plain sight...

Strep. The beach off which SEAL candidates spend a lot of time in the water is the second beach up from the Tijuana River mouth, Imperial Beach being the first. High bacteria counts due to sewage discharge from the river are resulting in more-frequent closures at Imperial. Am I reading too much into this?
