The Democratic Momentum Mirage

To gauge the trepidation with which the Democrats view the midterms, consider their reaction to last week’s special elections in New York’s 19th and 23rd congressional districts. They eked out a two-point win in the former and lost the latter. Yet, the Democrats and their friends in the Fourth Estate hailed the NY-19 victory as a portent of doom for the GOP in November. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared, “Republicans should be very, very, very scared this morning about their prospects.” The lady doth protest too much, to quote the Swan of Avon.

Here is hard core reality, the full impact of inflated energy prices is still peaking. I just received my first electric bill with the "new" prices. It is up 30%. I will get a heating oil delivery in October and that will reflect a similar increase. My grocery bills have been up by around 25%. Other voters will have similar experiences just before voting in November and they already KNOW who is to blame, Brandon and his dems. There is nothing like the monthly reminder of higher food and electricity bills topped off with oil or propane hits every month or so. The media can't talk you out of your personal experiences. The various dem campaigns cannot shift the blame for their unilateral actions that have driven the economy into recession. The dems celebrated all those actions as "wins" because they got what THEY wanted but the outcome of the progressive "wins" has been really BAD for the country and the People KNOW it and DO NOT like it. Nasty Pelousy is about to hand over her gavel once again and all the dem "investigations" and insanity will grind to a halt. Some new investigations into Hunter and Brandon will spring up. Maybe an unbiased review of Jan 6 will occur. Garland and Wray's actions are going to be reviewed. Brandon's ability to pass damaging laws is over.

The media always wants a close race, just like they want Cat 5 hurricanes to be the new normal. They will pump up Adlai Stevenson against Ike Eisenhower, or Dukakis against Reagan. It used to be the media would follow the election pounding away that there was "no mandate" (if the winner was Republican, like when Reagan trounced Mondale, or there's a "historical mandate" is the winner was a Democrat. Now the rhetoric has become so incendiary we are seeing violence (James Hodgkinson or Ismaaiyl Brinsley) reminiscent of the 1960s, and credible threats (from the left) of usurping democracy. We are definitely in dangerous waters.

"In the only House race that really mattered to both parties—the special election to replace the late Democratic Rep. John Murtha in Pennsylvania’s 12th District—Republicans failed spectacularly." Fun fact. Mark Critz, the Democrat that won that special election, got poured out to a Republican in the 2010 red wave general election.

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom fired shots at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis revealing he will give $100,000 to the Republican governor's midterm opponent in an effort to flip the red seat blue in the November election. In a tweet posted by Newsom Thursday, the governor pledged the large donation to Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., who recently won the Florida gubernatorial Democratic primary and advanced to the midterms where he will face DeSantis. Newsom, who is also running for re-election this fall, made his objective with the donation clear. "Time to make Ron DeSantis a one-term governor," Newsom said.

Team Biden’s student-loan “forgiveness” scheme is yet another example of a misguided and dangerous policy initiative masquerading as a public good — no surprise from an administration in which political missteps are the norm. The left is heralding the plan, which will “forgive” $10,000 for student-loan borrowers making $125,000 or less and $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients, as genuine assistance for millions of debtors. But it’s like a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound. It not only falls short of the hype but provides a false sense of financial relief, worsening an already deeply broken system. The reality is that it’s not the government “forgiving” debt but the

Beginning in earnest with Donald Trump’s election in 2016, working class voters in the United States have fled the Democratic Party in droves, quickly eroding a once solid base of support for the party. Amid this seismic shift in the electorate, many elected Democrats and mainstream media pundits have over the past several months desperately tried to prop up this narrative of Democrats as the party of everyday Americans – even as the policies emanating from Washington have grown increasingly opposed to their interests. Following the 2016 election, many in media circles seemed to believe that Trump’s performance with blue-collar and working class voter

In 1980, when the voters of Arkansas denied Bill Clinton a second term as the state’s governor, he responded by apologizing to the voters for the poor decisions he had made and asking them how he could have done a better job. This humble approach allowed him to regain the trust of the voters, and he was reelected in 1982. The rest, to coin a phrase, is history. There’s a lesson for Rep. Liz Cheney in this story, but she refuses to learn it. Indeed, on Sunday, she literally dismissed the Wyoming voters who rejected her as “sick.”

The midterm red wave may have crested elsewhere, but it doesn’t appear to have tapped out in Florida — at least not in the latest University of North Florida survey. Their latest poll, released this morning, shows Nikki Fried edging out Charlie Crist for the gubernatorial nomination in the August 23rd primary. However, both of them trail incumbent Ron DeSantis significantly overall and especially in one key demo: Registered Democrats who are likely to vote in the August 23 primary election were asked their vote choices for the Democratic nominees for Florida Governor and U.S. Senate. For most of 2022, Democratic voters have been more ambivalent about participating in the fall midterms than their Republican counterparts. According to conventional Beltway wisdom, however, that enthusiasm gap has been narrowed by the recent Roe v. Wade ruling and the Jan. 6 hearings. It’s probable, though, that last Monday’s FBI raid on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate will reestablish the Republican advantage. This unprecedented action will likely energize GOP voters and drown any increase in Democratic enthusiasm beneath a red tsunami. The first poll to measure public response to the raid indicates that it has galvanized Republicans and Independents.

They embrace — political violence. They don’t believe in democracy,” he said. “This is why, in this moment, those of you who love this country — Democrats, independents, mainstream Republicans — we must be stronger, more determined, and more committed to saving America
