Anne Heche is “not expected to survive” her horrific car crash. The actress’ rep told Page Six Thursday night that she “suffered a severe anoxic brain injury” due to the accident and “remains in a coma” at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center in California. “It has long been her choice to donate her organs,” her spokesperson shared, adding that she “is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.” Heche’s rep thanked the actress’ fans “for their kind wishes and prayers” as well as “the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses” who have cared for her since the Aug. 5 wreck.

High on cocaine and hit several vehicles before plowing into a house. From an actress with a long history of drug abuse. Had she lived she still would not have spent any time in jail. I'm all for giving people another chance but sometimes incarceration is a wakeup call.

A suicide where she almost runs a pedestrian down and then completely destroys a woman's house, almost killing her and her two dogs. I'll remember Anne Heche as being insufferably selfish to the end.

We are commanded not to sin in Scripture, not because the Lord doesn't want us to enjoy our lives, but because sin can kill us. It was very sad to see that snippet of video with audio showing Heche's car passing at 100 mph, then a few seconds later, the sounds of a crash, which considering the extreme speed was inevitable. Did Ms. Heche want to die? Apparently so. Did she care if she hurt anyone else? Apparently not. No one who is sane acts that way. As #9 points out, she has a family who love her, and have suffered watching her hit bottom various times. None of us is invulnerable, though. It's all sad.

Drugged and drunk driving at high speed in narrow suburban streets. She has brought whatever happens onto herself. Life is all about choices, and often bad choices lead to death. I have no particular ill will against this person, barely recognize the name or face. Hollyweird is filled with many people who apparently have serious problems dealing with money and fame, and endless numbers of them seem to turn to drugs and alcohol. I use neither, ever, and don't easily understand why people fall into those traps. But clearly it is a common thing, especially among those who wind up on TV and in the movies.

Anne Heche made her choice and is suffering the consequences. I'm sure her children and her family are devastated (but probably not surprised). The true innocent in this case is the woman who lost her home and possessions when Anne Heche hit it and set it on fire. Luckily, she was home and able to get herself and her pets out safely.

Margot Cleveland Explains Why Trump Warrant

There’s been a lot of talk about classified documents regarding the FBI raid on President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. Trump himself talked about declassifying documents and there is a report about a “standing order” to declassify documents he had over documents that he was reviewing. But there’s an important thing to note that the criminal statutes alleged in the warrant go right around that — that it isn’t about whether the documents are classified or not. It’s a way of trying to get Trump on something while jacking up the left by screaming “classified” or “nuclear.” But those aren’t the critical questions in the underlying statutes. Indeed, there’s been no evidence

Hollywood studios have ignored a demand from more than 1,500 TV showrunners, writers, and directors urging the companies to commit to “abortion safety protocols,” as well as to promise to stop donating to pro-life political candidates. Instead of addressing the specific demands, studios including Disney, Netflix, Amazon, and NBCUniversal issued a vaguely worded joint statement this week that recommended talent defer to their relevant union health plans. The studios said they are “continuing to evaluate ways that we can best provide for our employees and workers who support our productions.” In their statement, the companies mostly avoided addressing the specific demands, which include commitments to providing abortion travel subsidies

Law enforcement is investigating former president Donald Trump for removal or destruction of records, obstruction of an investigation, and violating the Espionage Act, according to the search warrant for the FBI raid of Mar-a-Lago that took place on Monday. A federal judge unsealed the search warrant for Trump’s residence, as well as other related documents on Friday afternoon. The Justice Department revealed earlier on Friday that Trump’s lawyers would not object to the documents’ release. Meanwhile, a list of items removed from the property shows the FBI recovered eleven sets of classified documents during the search, including some top-secret documents that should only have been available in special government facilities.

The House passed Democrats’ massive spending package on Friday in a 220-207 vote. The bill, which received support from every House Democrat, comes nearly one week after Senate Democrats passed the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” on Sunday in a party-line vote using budget reconciliation, which allows a measure to pass with a simple majority rather than needing to meet a 60-vote threshold. The bill now heads to President Biden’s desk for final approval. The legislation is essentially a pared down version of President Biden’s Build Back Better package

“Get stuff done”? Hardly, as Politico reports this morning on Eric Adams’ attempts to deflect his own failures onto Greg Abbott. Texas has sent perhaps a few hundred illegal immigrants into New York City for the “sanctuary” that Mayor Adams proudly proclaimed last year, which Adams now blames for a breakdown in services to the homeless. That’s nonsense, reports Janaki Chadha. New York City’s shelter system began breaking down when Adams took office, and Adams hasn’t gotten any “stuff done” to resolve it — except to shift blame to Texas: New York City’s sprawling network of homeless shelters are bursting at the seams as rents skyrocket, evictions accelerate and a new mandate

One thing we must give Democrats credit for is their unity. Yes, certain members of the party such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will occasionally diverge from the party line and oppose particularly radical pieces of legislation, but when it comes to big moments and key votes – on impeachment, for instance – Democrats circle the wagons. Contrarily, Republicans tend to fracture at the most inopportune moments, which is why it was refreshing to see virtual unanimity amongst the GOP after Monday’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago. Almost all notable Republicans supported Trump after the ordeal; all except for one.

It is helpful to think of political developments as moves on the chessboard made to advance an objective. In chess, the objective is to win the game, chess being zero-sum. Politics is like that, too, though participants often claim it's not, that they're acting for the greater good, principles at the foundation of democracy, motherhood and apple pie and all that — which is true in some cases but never if Democrats are in the game. This brings me to Attorney General Garland's claim that the Mar-a-Lago home invasion wasn't a raid at all.

The post–George Floyd racial reckoning has hit the field of medicine like an earthquake. Medical education, medical research, and standards of competence have been upended by two related hypotheses: that systemic racism is responsible both for racial disparities in the demographics of the medical profession and for racial disparities in health outcomes. Questioning those hypotheses is professionally suicidal. Vast sums of public and private research funding are being redirected from basic science to political projects aimed at dismantling white supremacy. The result will be declining quality of medical care and a curtailment of scientific progress.

A University of Pennsylvania Penn Wharton analysis released Friday revealed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 would do little to reduce the annual rate of inflation in the midst of the economic recession. The bill would only reduce annual inflation by 0.1 percentage point over the next five years. The study estimated that the small inflation reduction would begin only "once major deficit-reducing provisions of the legislation are fully implemented, but the Act would have no measurable impact on inflation after 2028.
