Was Jamie Foxx’s movie ‘All-Star Weekend’

Is this the funniest comedy you’ll never see — because of cancel culture? In 2016, Jamie Foxx, 54, and Jeremy Piven, 57, started filming “All-Star Weekend,” a movie about two NBA-obsessed friends in Indiana. Piven’s character is Steph Curry’s biggest fan, while Foxx’s worships LeBron James. The pair win tickets to the NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles and on their way out west, they run into a cast of wacky characters and find themselves in a dangerous situation with their hoop idols. The premise and the cast, which includes Robert Downey Jr., Benicio del Toro, Gerard Butler and Eva Longoria, seem like a slam dunk.

It might have been funny to those who still have a minimal interest in the NBA. To me they are just a bunch of tall kids whose only talent in life is not much more advanced than throwing a balled-up piece of paper into the office waste can.

I might be sympathetic if any of the celebs affected by this weren't dyed-in-the-wool libs. Reap what you sow.

No interest anymore in NBA. Their disrespect for America and their hypocritical, greedy betrayal with China sealed the deal. Basketball is dead.

One thing we must give Democrats credit for is their unity. Yes, certain members of the party such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will occasionally diverge from the party line and oppose particularly radical pieces of legislation, but when it comes to big moments and key votes – on impeachment, for instance – Democrats circle the wagons. Contrarily, Republicans tend to fracture at the most inopportune moments, which is why it was refreshing to see virtual unanimity amongst the GOP after Monday’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago. Almost all notable Republicans supported Trump after the ordeal; all except for one.

Less than a week ago, the tragedy of four brutal murders in New Mexico appeared to be a windfall for Democrats. It was a perfect, yet bloody, scenario for the party that doesn’t hesitate to try and exploit every and any tragedy that fits their larger narrative. And while we can’t be sure that any Democrats were actually happy about four men being dead, we know that internally they were thrilled about the circumstances. We could almost see them doing cartwheels in their heads as they discussed the matter. Muslims, of course, are included in the Democrats’ intersectional hierarchy of victimhood.

Elon Musk questioned President Joe Biden’s ongoing effort to release WNBA star Brittney Griner from a Russian prison while thousands are locked up in the US for the same offense. Griner was sentenced to nine years in Russia for cannabis possession and Musk noted others locked up on American soil aren’t getting the same attention from the White House. “If the president is working so hard to free someone who is in jail in Russia for some weed, shouldn’t we free people in America?” the Tesla CEO asked on an episode of the “Full Send” podcast this week.

If politics and society mirror the natural world, then we might conclude that for every phenomenon there is a counter-phenomenon there to balance things out. In the context of our weekly tribute to stupidity, therefore, we would declare that for every knucklehead, there is an anti-knucklehead. That theory might not hold true in every instance, but it certainly holds true in this situation. Andrew Warren, an elected prosecutor in Hillsborough County Florida, inexplicably determined that he wasn’t merely elected to enforce the laws, he was there to write and adjudicate them as well. And then Warren ran into anti-knucklehead extraordinaire: Governor Ron DeSantis.

In February, American basketball star Brittney Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport after attempting to bring cannabis oil into the country, which is illegal according to Russian law. In the almost six months since being apprehended, Griner has lingered in a less-than-comfortable prison cell. On Thursday, the legal proceedings of the case came to a close when a Russian court delivered a guilty verdict, followed by a harsh sentence of nine years behind bars. None of Thursday’s developments should have come as a surprise to anyone. As we’ve noted before, 99% of all Russian prosecutions end with a guilty verdict, and with a maximum available sentence of ten years,

Ukrainian military intelligence chief Major General Kyrylo Budanov suggested on Ukrainian television this week that Putin’s ears looked different across several of the leader’s public appearances. “The picture, let’s say, of the ears, is different. For anyone who doubted the level to which Rep. Cheney is apparently thrilled that actor Kevin Costner has thrown his support behind her candidacy in the GOP Wyoming Primary election in two weeks. The 56-year-old congresswoman is fighting for her political life, attempting to win a fourth term in office. There’s an approach by Democrats to problem-solving that is becoming increasingly common, and it’s a tactic that focuses on our language. Rather than fixing problems, they instead attempt to either eliminate words from our daily lexicon or simply change the definition of the word. In March in the deep blue state of New Jersey, for instance, we saw the practice in action when state lawmakers eliminated the word “inmate” from their criminal code in favor of “incarcerated person.” We saw another example of it this week when the Biden Administration insisted on trying to redefine the term “recession.”

There is perhaps no better example of gaslighting by today’s Democratic Party than when it comes to the issue of “Defund the Police.” In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in the spring of 2020, the mantra was all the rage in leftwing, Democratic circles. Their media, their spokespeople, their elected officials – all of them – were singing the same song: Police are evil, the system is racist, and we need to put our tax dollars to use doing something else. It’s abundantly clear that former Vice President Mike Pence is going to run for president in 2024. He’s been putting in the leg work lately, with a scheduled trip to New Hampshire coming up. He’s also positioned himself as a Trump foil in the mid-term GOP primaries, taking a contrary position to the former president in several states, most recently in Arizona. For my part, I think Pence’s pursuit is delusional. There is exactly one person in the GOP who would be palatable to Trump voters if Trump himself weren’t the nominee, and his name is Ron DeSantis.

Since the outset of the global monkeypox outbreak in May, public health and infectious disease experts have told the public that the virus is largely transmitting through skin-to-skin contact, in particular during sex between men. Now, however, an expanding cadre of experts has come to believe that sex between men itself — both anal as well as oral intercourse — is likely the main driver of global monkeypox transmission. The skin contact that comes with sex, these experts say, is probably much less of a risk factor.
