After intense backlash from local bodega workers and city tabloids, Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg on Tuesday dropped all charges against bodega clerk Jose Alba, who was allegedly acting in self-defense when he fatally stabbed a man who was attacking him.
The liberal DA’s decision comes after weeks of criticism of Bragg’s decision to send the 61-year-old to Riker’s Island and charge him with second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Austin Simon. Bragg first requested Alba’s bail be set at $500,000 before it was lowered to $50,000 in response to criticism from the community. He was later released on a $5,000 bail bond.

And pay all his legal and bond expenses. Mr. DA (What a cute double meaning), while you're at it, pay him for his lost time - preferably out of your own pocket, you twit.

I know I’m dreaming, but it sure would nice if he could sue that DA for false imprisonment, or something.

Never should have been charged in the first place. I hope he gets a good lawyer. We are entitled to self defense.

If there is a more obvious case of self-defense, there probably isn't video of it.

Now Jose bodega should seriously consider moving and changing his name.
It won't be long before Austin's (no visible support) friends show up in their $300 designer Tees...

Had Simon been the survivor of that altercation, I bet he would have claimed to have been triggered by Alba's use of 'n-----', even though he threatened Alba first by walking around behind the counter. And with the legacy media's support, I bet he wouldn't even have had charges filed against him.

Bragg never would have charged Alba had they been part of the same tribe. Only public outrage ended this sordid tale, but Alba will replay it in his head forever.

I think the dim witted DA finally figured out that there was not a chance that he could get a conviction. No jury would vote to convict, after seeing that video.
And Alba should sue the DA for false charges and at least get his legal expenses back. Not a lawyer, don't know if that is even possible.

Come on you people! These libtards never change their mind. Thy push on ahead, oblivious to the noise. Bragg was told to drop the case, the word coming from on high, like the Governor's office. This is the last thing that corrupt Governor Hochul needs as a distraction for her reelection campaign. Every gubernatorial candidate in NY has said that they would fire Alvin Bragg on Day One--except her. She said he needed more time on the job before she decided on keeping him. After the stink raised by many in the city, I'm sure Bragg was told he would go unless he dismissed this case. That's the story.

Bragg gets no bonus points for dropping charges because Alva should not have been charged anyway. Throw the bum Bragg out!

Number 20's post is 100% correct, and one of the best political calls I've seen. Hochul was terrified when Her GOP opponent this year, Lee Zeldin, originally said he'd fire Bragg on Day One, because she knew it could be a game changer in crime-ridden NYC, cost her re-election.. When Zeldin made the pledge, Hochul issued a "soft" and quieter (probably no one but me heard it!) warning to Bragg that he should clean up some of his promises. So I am certain that Number 20 is correct, and that big Dems warned upstart Bragg that they could only endure his Wokeness so far.
