The CEO of Netflix said the company's recent 75 percent stock drop was a 'horrifying, disappointing and embarrassing' moment for the streaming platform, which lost lost 200,000 subscribers in the first three months of the year. The company lost $54 billion in a single day in April after having seen booming success at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix is currently trading at $195 per share, as opposed to $348 per share in April. 'It was horrifying, disappointing and embarrassing,' CEO Ted Sarandos told The New York Times. 'We make decisions based on the best information we have at the time. They are not always going to be right,

Comments:

Under American capitalism as now construed, far and away the primary goal of a CEO is to maximize shareholder value. You can trash our culture, outsource jobs, harm the republic and its subjects in a thousand ways and it's all good, provided you're making money. Given this, how in the world does this person get away with taking home some $40 million a year in exchange for destroying the company? At his side is a "co-CEO" who takes in a comparatively modest $35 million a year.

Maybe somebody should ask Carly Fiorina those questions OP. Remember her? She pocketed $85mil total for destroying two different tech companies she was in charge of. The pensions and livelihoods of at least 30K people were ruined by her, simply because she refused to walk away, so the board had to buy her out. She also found a back way during the Dubya administration to sell computer stuff to Iran and she bypassed the embargo of that time. She was evil then, I suspect she is even worse now.

We have been Netflix subscribers for years but don't appreciate the Obamas being given VAST amounts of $ for vanity projects, and I have not even gotten into Harry and Megan (and her serious propaganda.). While I appreciate that everyone has the right to free speech and I don't have to watch, I see that vanity $ taking cash away from really GOOD entertainment..........Netflix has some very good shows but a ton of filler.

Just to be accurate, Rice left Netflix in 2020 to head Biden's Domestic Policy Council and the Obamas have never been on the Board. Their production company, Higher Ground, has a production deal with Netflix and I think there's a series streaming now with Obama about our National Parks. Considering that co-CEO Sarandos is married to Biden's 2020 campaign bundler Nicole Avant, it was a huuuuuge and very positive occasion when Sara's refused to buckle to woke demands for Chapelle censorship. Netflix actually LISTENED to their subscribers and made some positive changes! If we want to encourage this positive behavior throughout the workplace, shouldn't we be commending Netflix, rather than criticizing them for the steps they've taken?
