D.C. Lawyer of the Year: Natasha Taylor-Smith

I have been reading with horror Julie Kelley’s day-to-day description of the treatment afforded some 850 people arrested in D.C. for conduct on January 6 and the awful legal representation and judicial treatment they have received. Many have been held in horrible prison conditions for over a year, denied bail and an opportunity to have their cases heard outside this venue where the jurors will never grant them a fair trial. None of the big law firms in town which puff up their public service donating time -- for example, to defend Guantanamo Bay detainees -- have to my knowledge volunteered to help these people.

Nancy Pelosi is one evil old woman. She doesn't car how many lives she destroys to push her insurrection plot. She has sold out her integrity (if she ever had any) her religion, and her office in her mad power play destroy Donald Trump. She has made many efforts 2 impeachments and a Russian Hoax and failed so now she keeps people in jail in a play not seen since Lincoln ignored the Constitution 150 years ago.

Good to see a person of Clarice's caliber addressing this. Gateway Pundit has been reporting Taylor- Smiths honorable work directly from the court room where they have a reporter. Stunning work by this lady. Any push back from day one would have blown this corruption out of the water. Thank you Ms. Taylor - Smith

She's a federal public defender, doing her job. These big law firms who do pro bono work are picking and choosing whose rights they want to defend. But under our system, all defendants deserve competent representation and a fair trial. Hats off to Ms. Taylor-Smith.

This young lady deserves respect and all the props thrown her direction. Coincidentally, she's black. (Some might be surprised.) J6 is a day that will live in infamy. Reportedly more than 800 Americans have been charged for their participation (no matter how slight) in the J6 events. (Contrast that with none charged for the Baltimore Unrest.) Those either pleading guilty or convicted are invariably hammered by the sentence handed down. Those, like Epps, who played prominent roles in the most egregious ways are left unmolested without explanation. The sad thing is that J6 should have been shortcircuited immediately after November 3rd. Six state legislatures had a duty to ensure the vote was square and the outcome honest and accurate before certifying electors. Six states gave Biden upset victories that night under odd circumstances. None ever made more than a cursory review despite evidence that demanded investigation. Oh, some made a show of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Not one, all with Republican legislatures in place, did a damn thing. Funny that. Had the legislatures done their duty, there would have been no J6 "insurrection". They failed. Why? The Constitution says...and great pains were made prior to the election to make that widespread knowledge. Not the courts, the legislatures had the duty to get it right. Perhaps the defense offered by Natasha Taylor-Smith will prevail. It ought to. Still, one asks, where the Republican/conservative leadership is? Where are the grassroots activists? Where is anyone? No vigils. No demonstrations. I see more Che t-shirts than any demanding justice for the J6 victims. Trump flags fly proudly, and none fly for the J6 political prisoners. The chilling effect is apparent...exactly what the politicians want. Good citizens are quiet ones.

Elites have always been ambiguous about the muscular classes who replace their tires, paint their homes, and cook their food. And the masses who tend to them likewise have been ambivalent about those who hire them: appreciative of the work and pay, but also either a bit envious of those with seemingly unlimited resources or turned off by perceived superciliousness arising from their status and affluence. Yet the divide has grown far wider in the 21st century. Globalization fueled the separation in a number of ways. One, outsourcing and offshoring eroded the rust-belt interior, while enriching the two coasts. The former lost good-paying jobs, while the latter found new markets

Something weird is going on with vaunted Vogue photographer Annie Leibovitz who seems to have lost, or else never had, any ability to properly photograph black people. Here's the harrumphing from the Daily Beast: On Tuesday, famed photographer Annie Leibovitz sneak-peeked photos from what Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour called a “historic portrait” for the mag’s famed September issue, released just before the Supreme Court’s new term begins in October. Jackson made history in April when she was confirmed as the first Black woman on the nation’s highest court.

Homelessness and crime are taking over woke, left-wing cities thanks to radical policies and defund the police agendas. States such as California and New York have seen a spike in "For Sale" signs as a massive number of people are fleeing to red states for a better way of life. One city in particular, however, is driving families out faster than others due to its rampant homeless crisis.

It's a move that House Republicans should consider when they regain the majority in November, but will they do it? In the aftermath of the unlawful August 8 raid on Mar-a-Lago, the Republican Party has been united in its revulsion of what appears to be an unprecedented ransacking of a former president’s home. The legal justification doesn’t pass constitutional muster. There seems to be no crime committed, only that the National Archives grew impatient over record retrieval. That’s not a crime; people dragging their feet regarding government documents is quite common in DC.

In discussing the Hunter Biden investigation with The Federalist, Bill Barr, most recently Donald Trump's attorney general, said: Intervening events, especially recent reports about FBI whistleblowers and the possible reach of the investigation, warrant adding the protections of special counsel status to assure that key decisions are made independently without political favor. Wow! Talk about an inflated sense of his own authority. Barr exerted only minimal influence over the DOJ when he was in charge. Does he really believe they care what he thinks now?

Strzok was later fired from the investigation for the anti-Trump bias. "So, despite that fact that put that out there the FBI makes mistakes. The church makes mistakes. People make mistakes. NBC News's Capitol Hill correspondent Ali Vitali has a new book out, "Electable: Why America Hasn't Put a Woman in the White House...Yet." In it, she says that Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts claimed that many people told her during the 2020 presidential primary campaign that they would have voted for her except for her lack of a penis. Possibly even more hilariously, Warren argued that she could have beaten then-President Donald Trump in the general election. Vitali wrote: We’d talked about the dynamics of Iowa, her competitors, and the pressure she put on herself not “to screw this up.”

Media coverage of the Mar-a-Lago raid has not been entirely illuminating, melding together as it does without distinction the four components of the search warrant process. The four components are: 1. Petition 2. Affidavit 3. Warrant 4. Return The petition is the Department of Justice’s application asking that the court issue a search warrant. In the petition, the DOJ (a) argues to the court that the affidavit shows there is probable cause to believe that evidence of criminal activity can be found on the target premises and (b) specifies the nature of that evidence (documents, firearms, automotive parts, etc. whatever). The affidavit is a sworn statement attached to the petition attesting to the essential fact

It is helpful to think of political developments as moves on the chessboard made to advance an objective. In chess, the objective is to win the game, chess being zero-sum. Politics is like that, too, though participants often claim it's not, that they're acting for the greater good, principles at the foundation of democracy, motherhood and apple pie and all that — which is true in some cases but never if Democrats are in the game. This brings me to Attorney General Garland's claim that the Mar-a-Lago home invasion wasn't a raid at all.

In a three-minute press conference following the FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, Attorney General Merrick Garland cut a defiant figure, condemning critics of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI: “I will not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked.” He then left the stage without taking questions or answering that criticism. It was a signature moment for Garland, who often responds to controversies with belated, rote remarks. His brief comments had all of the substance of a Hallmark card that read, “Trust us, we’re the government.” Yet trust has to be earned, not simply demanded
