Totally rad: NYCHA projects get renovated
thanks to a federal public-private partnership program

Original Article

We don’t see this often, but we should: Nine Brooklyn public housing developments where more than 6,000 people live will Friday celebrate rehabbed kitchens and bathrooms and windows and floors, elevators, lobbies, fire systems, community spaces, playgrounds and boiler rooms—courtesy of the federal Rental Assistance Demonstration/Permanent Affordability Commitment Together program, a mouthful that’s shorthanded as RAD-PACT. Opponents who dismiss it as unacceptable privatization should tour the overhauled facilities, then ask themselves whether their demagoguery and ideological rigidity is worth blocking progress for some of the neediest and most neglected New Yorkers. The program began a decade ago, and it lets agencies choose to get federal funding

Comments:

$434 million of our tax dollars across 2,600 apartments works out to $166,923 per welfare apartment in NYC. Talk about luxury! "Spend all you want; we'll print more," says the Fed. "Federal spending has no effect on inflation," says Secretary Janet. "Why do I work this hard and have nothing to show for it?," says the hapless American.

Hopefully the Daily News will keep a copy of this editorial so in 25 years they can cut and paste it into a future edition after renovations will be needed again because people don't care about things they don't have to pay for and will just trash the place again.

The Daily News was wrong. It is NOT courtesy of the federal Rental Assistance Demonstration/Permanent Affordability Commitment Together program, It's paid for by responsible taxpayers. Lets hope there's no copper plumbing in those rehabs or they'll be doing it again in 6 months.

The contracts will require overpriced union labor, with union members’ compulsory dues funneled back to Democratic politicians. It’s the New York Way.

A Harlem councilwoman is pushing legislation that would require city leaders overseeing museums and nightlife to appoint a laureate of the Big Apple’s growing drag performance scene. Democratic socialist Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan introduced a bill Thursday that would require a “drag laureate” to be picked annually by the Commissioner for Cultural Affairs in consultation with the head of the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife. During Thursday’s City Council meeting, Richardson Jordan said the drag laureate would serve as the city’s “ambassador to LGBTQ nightlife.” “As a black queer woman, I know what it is to feel invisible,” said Richardson Jordan, who has come under fire during her first year

Climate change and rising costs are causing supermarkets in France to run out of dijon mustard, raising questions over whether the shortage could spread to other countries. French mustard producers said seed production in 2021 was down 50% after poor harvests, which they said had been brought on by the changing climate in France’s Burgundy region and Canada, the second largest mustard seed producer in the world. It has caused French supermarket shelves to run empty of the condiment, including in several stores visited by the Guardian. One of France’s largest mustard producers, Reine de Dijon, said the shortages were being driven by climate breakdown.
