The first flights of infant formula from Europe, authorized by President Joe Biden to relieve a deepening U.S. shortage, will arrive in Indiana aboard military aircraft this weekend, the White House announced Friday. The White House says 132 pallets of Nestlé Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula will leave Ramstein Air Base in Germany and arrive in the U.S. this weekend. Specifically the formula will be taken to Indianapolis. Another 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start Extensive HA formula are expected to arrive in the coming days.(Snip)While Biden initially requested that the Pentagon use commercially chartered aircraft to move the formula from Europe to the U.S.,

Comments:

The government creates a problem, then does a short-term solution the most expensive way possible, in this case because they say there are no commercial flights available. And just by chance, the formula is being delivered a couple of hours away from Mayor Buttblaster's hometown, who says he's trying to find baby formula for the two show children he bought.

Like bailing the Titanic with a teaspoon. Great fanfare from Diaper Joe's clown show. But if all the formula went to a very small but of course reliably fascist like Vermont, there would be enough formula to feed the starving infants for one day. But Diaper Joe will brag about his quick and effective response to his created starvation crisis.

Now that makes a whole lot of sense.../sarc ... pay fuel for a military jet to carry just exactly how much formula from Europe to here???? That amount of pallets would maybe stock 3 or 4 supermarkets for a couple days... This administration is beyond belief...just to make sure Buttplug gets some for his adopted daughters since he can't breast feed them...

Parents should not try to make their own homemade baby formula because anything not made by a big corporate manufacturer is poison. At least that is what I am reading in the news.

So will “Pop” Biden and Buttigieg be at the Indiana airport when the aircraft arrive to take credit for fraudulently “solving” the baby formula crisis, and to insure that the imported baby formula is distributed “equitably” to the population based upon race, gender, LGBTQI membership and the other categories of Democrat identity politics?

Great point, #7. Germany has aircraft and we've been providing them military assistance for 77 years now, at US taxpayer expense. They could have flown us in some formula on their own, but no. No other nations are helping us defend our southern border or dislodge our ruling junta either; so much for our great one-way international alliances.

Fools at the FDA, probably fishing for bribe money, shut down a formula factory - even though all formula inspected is fine, the production area has no contamination. THAT is total bureaucratic BS. Very wrong. And then they keep it shut down for 3 months....again, WHY? The only thing that makes sense is squeezing the company for money. And after the disaster in the market, and lots of public political fallout for the Demented One, we go into wasting the military's time and budget to bail out the politicians. No thanks. Identify the individuals at the FDA who ran this disaster and fire them. Then let the company resume production. Put out the recipe for making formula from Carnation evaporated milk, light corn syrup and vitamin drops - widely distributed. Maybe a rack on the store shelf next to the evaporated milk with a flyer with the recipe. THAT would be a sensible solution. PUNISH the damned bureaucrats, and make people more independent, more resourceful, more capable - NOT more dependent. But these are Dems - they want everyone scared and dependent on the government.

I thought we used to be able to make formula with evaporated milk, water and Karo syrup? What is the problem here? Its could be just a temporary fix, not forever. Is it that vegan parents refuse to try homemade formula on their vegan-raised babies? Or is it that today's parents can't read or comprehend any instructions whatsoever? Egads. Please don't tell me we need Oprah to say it's OK? Republicans should set up Biden by pointing out how UNFAIR, biased, and elitist Biden's Nestle plan is. What about the rest of the world? Re #14, exactly right. Excellent point. It is eyewash, TV propaganda. I remember in the build up to the Gulf War, we put on a maximum USAF "air bridge" effort. ALL our C-5s and all our C-17s were flying 24/7 with quick refueling and crew replacements, reloading and into the air again moving military equipment to the theater. Lot so of TV shots of aircraft unloading. After two weeks of this 24/7 max effort of the entire USAF, the first SINGLE ship with military equipment arrived in a port in Saudi Arabia. It offloaded that day MORE than had been delivered by the USAF in two weeks of 24 hour operations. After that, several ships a day arrived and off loaded. You can't move squat with aircraft, never could. SHIPS is how you move stuff for real. This USAF deal is for the TV cameras, will make no real difference at all.

So I wonder how many thousands of dollars each can of formula will end up costing. Probably far more that it will get sold for. But wait! It's all going to the border to feed those hungry little illegals that are swarming in. Nothing to worry about citizens. This isn't for you.

A USAF C-5 has a maximum payload of 135 tons. A older, Panama canal capable container ship holds from 3,000 to 5,000 "TEUs" which are standard 20 ft shipping containers. Each container can hold up to 50,000 lbs... but is volume limited. Let's guess that for infant formula powder a container only holds 25,000 lbs, that is 12.5 tons/container. For a older, smallish 3,000 TEU ship, that means it can carry 37,500 TONS of infant formula. The larger of these "small" Panama-canal-capable ships can carry 5000ish TEUs, so over 60,000 tons. So a smallish container ship is 37, 500 tons, on C-5 is 135 tons, that's 277 C-5 loads to equal one smallish container ship. If they fly 10 loads a day, about a months worth of C-5 flights is one smallish container ship equivalent. The large container ships carry up to eight times the size of the Panama-canal capable ships. Aircraft are for delivering small amounts of high value stuff in a hurry. Not infant formula.

Military shouldn't be involved at all. Government shouldn't be involved at all (just get the heck out of the way) The grocery stores should charter cargo jets on their own, if it is really that necessary. Let the retail price reflect the extra transportation costs for the users. I bet 'Big Guy' Joe is getting 20% on this deal.... 10% from the European manufacturers', and 10% from the local grocery stores.

As a result, Spinrad wrote, the subagency overestimated wildlife effects, delaying permitting on existing leases.
