Adreian Payne, a big man who starred at Michigan State and played four seasons in the NBA, died at 31 on Monday. Chris Solari, who covers Michigan State for the Detroit Free Press, confirmed the news. Payne died as a result of a shooting that took place at 1:30 a.m. in Florida, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. Payne was shot in a townhome community in the Econ Landing neighborhood. He was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead. The suspected shooter, 29-year-old Lawrence Dority, remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Dority was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.

I remember him stepping up to be there for Lacey as she battled cancer. It was truly heroic. I hope they are now reunited and at peace.

However he was tested positive for Covid in the ER so his death will be counted as a Covid death.

No idea about the story, not enough information to know what happened, but it seems that frequently you can take the young man out of the ghetto but can't take the ghetto ways out of the young man. Perhaps this wasn't another case of that, we'll eventually get the story. The suspected shooter not running away, staying and cooperating likely means that the shooter thinks this was a justified shooting. Right or wrong, we can't yet tell. Lots of former athletes come to sad ends, although a good number manage to make a good life for themselves after their sports careers. A highly individual thing - all about choices. There are great examples like Hershel Walker, Ben Carson (not sports but from ghetto) and not so great examples like OJ Simpson, and Aaron Hernandez.

The article was very bare of reporting. What were the circumstances? The shooter apparantly stuck around, and 'cooperated' which is not the action of a murderer, but someone who feels justified in some way. I'd like to know the motives/circumstances.

That's it? That's the story? C'mon put in a little effort. WHY did the suspect stay and cooperate, then get charged with 1st degree murder? I know that there are many angles to those words, and the writer ignored them all.

In one of the more memorable lines from the original movie ‘Ghostbusters,’ Bill Murray’s character Dr. Peter Venkman was explaining what was about to happen to New York City due to the ghoulish upheaval they’d stirred up: “Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!” That statement could have also been used to describe the reaction from the left this week after the leak of the opinion from SCOTUS Justice Samuel Alito in the Dobbs V Jackson case. But of all those who lost their minds, and of everyone who said stupid stuff, CNN was the most hysterical.

The armed man who attacked Dave Chappelle on stage in Los Angeles was a “wanna-be rapper” with a temper who was known for creating havoc in his apartment complex, former neighbors said. Isaiah Lee, 23, was arrested after he bumrushed Chappelle while carrying a strange knife that looks like a handgun in a caught-on-video attack at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night. Former neighbor Russell Taylor remembered Lee as someone who could be “set off with a word.”

President Biden on Monday mixed up his job title, telling a crowd at the White House that he was the nation’s first senator from Delaware when he meant to say president. Biden, who turns 80 this year, is the oldest-ever US president and Republican critics routinely accuse him of being in mental decline, citing gaffes and instances where he appears to lose his train of thought. “There have not been many of the senators from Delaware. It’s a small state. As a matter of fact, there has never been one.

Yes, we know it’s only been three weeks since the last time President Biden was honored as the week’s top knucklehead, but what is our KOTW Committee supposed to do? The man just can’t help himself, and we just cannot ignore his buffoonery. After a thorough tongue-lashing from our Department of Redundancy Department and following only a brief internal debate arguing for the candidacies of other knuckleheads, the decision is in and the voting wasn’t even close. Our esteemed Commander-in-Chief is, once again, this week’s honoree. Winner: President Biden’s cluelessness and criminality were on full display this week,

The Biden Justice Department is finally acknowledging the war on cops: FBI Director Christopher Wray denounced the 59% increase in cop murders in 2021. An officer is murdered nearly once every five days, yet violence against law enforcement “doesn’t get enough attention,” Wray said Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes.” That is an understatement. Wray’s bosses — Attorney General Merrick Garland and President Joe Biden — have instead focused almost exclusively on alleged white-supremacist criminality

New footage of Vladimir Putin appearing unsteady, fidgeting and biting his lips during an Orthodox Easter service in Moscow on Sunday has added to suspicions that the Russian leader is seriously ill. The frail-looking strongman is seen swaying during the Mass conducted by the Russian Orthodox Church, which has strongly backed its leader’s so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine. Putin, 69 — dressed in a dark blue suit, a white shirt and dark purple tie — holds a red candle as he stands in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral alongside Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

It was a tumultuous news cycle this week, with scores of candidates to choose from for the week’s top knucklehead. Our Commander-in-Chief allowed himself to be manhandled by the Easter Bunny, and his lady in waiting, Vice-President Kamala Harris, waxed poetic about how exciting space is. Yet neither of those options even receive an honorable mention this week. Ultimately, we could not ignore the imbecilic decision of former Fox News host Chris Wallace, whose defection to CNN has been looking worse with every passing day. Much has been made about the dire prospects for the Democratic Party in November. Mid-term elections almost always see an electoral erosion for the party in power, and when that party’s president is struggling with opinion polls, the consequences can be severe. For the Democrats, President Joe Biden has somehow managed to reach historically low approval ratings, and leftwing political prognosticators are undoubtedly feeling nauseated as they read the tea leaves. But what about the next presidential election cycle? What about 2024? Does the future look any brighter for Democrats? It may be a long way off but consider this fact:

Wells Fargo has become the latest major financial institution to set new greenhouse gas standards requiring borrowers in the energy sector to reduce emissions. Oil and natural gas companies must reduce their absolute emissions by 26% by 2030, based on 2019 emission levels, Wells Fargo said last week. Other power sector businesses must see a 60% reduction during the same time period. The new rules from Wells Fargo are part of a trend from financial institutions around the world to implement such climate regulations for its lending programs, joining the likes of Citigroup Inc. and the United Nations-convened Net-Zero Banking Alliance. As the night wore on and went into the next day, it seemed that every update was favorable for Biden until he was ultimately named President-Elect. While Trump’s campaign repeatedly promised to “release the Kraken” and bring forward evidence of election fraud that would prove that the election was stolen, focusing on electronic voting machines, that evidence didn’t materialize. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Monday said that immigration judges can now consider the mental health status of an illegal immigrant convicted of an aggravated felony when considering their asylum claim or whether to withhold their deportation -- overruling a prior decision by a top immigration appeals board. The Immigration and Nationality Act makes illegal immigrants ineligible for both asylum and withholding of removal -- where illegal immigrants are not returned because they have a fear of persecution if returned to their country of origin -- if they have been convicted of a "particularly serious crime" that constitutes a danger to the community.

Barrington, Rhode Island, public schools are among the best in the state. Many parents move to the district, and tolerate the higher taxes, because of the academic rigor that sets their children up for attending Ivy League schools or receiving academic merit scholarships. However, all of that academic appeal is being chipped away after the district brought in a so-called "equity and inclusion" agenda. De-leveling, or a system of universal learning, was first implemented in Barrington on the most vulnerable students—the students with learning disabilities and Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
