Barrington, Rhode Island, public schools are among the best in the state. Many parents move to the district, and tolerate the higher taxes, because of the academic rigor that sets their children up for attending Ivy League schools or receiving academic merit scholarships. However, all of that academic appeal is being chipped away after the district brought in a so-called "equity and inclusion" agenda. De-leveling, or a system of universal learning, was first implemented in Barrington on the most vulnerable students—the students with learning disabilities and Individualized Education Programs (IEP). In February 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19

It’s really equal outcomes not opportunities. 100 kids go in 100 get diplomas even if they failed every class. Tell me, do you want a pilot that barely comprehends math doing the weight and balance sheet on your aircraft before a flight? Do you want a pharmacist who misreads and mispronounces words and selects the wrong variant of antibiotics? We all can already see what unskilled people do when given a seat in Government, hence Obama, Biden, Rice, Jarrett, Clinton. We’re doomed unless we fix this!

Pursuit of equality of outcomes is not just un-American, it is anti-American. This country was founded on the principle of equality of opportunity. Its denial , denies America. Granted that access to opportunity is not equally distributed throughout society - due to historical and cultural reasons. Any action the State takes to equalize that access is acceptable , even desirable. But where professed equity begins to encroach on equality we must cry stop!

From one of the commenters: 'This is called the 'dumbing down' of America, while other countries have far surpassed Americans in education. I guess liberals don't want men and women running this country to be bright.' Of course they DON'T! They want them to be liberal Commiecrats. So...rejecting excellence is the only way that can happen.

The dumbing down of America has already been a great success. Just look at the President, VP, Congress, along with the senior leadership (Disney ex) of most large corporations. It is accurate to say that the majority of the political, social, and business leaders are immoral morons. The equity agenda is simply designed to ensure that servitude is enforced on the population.

Participation trophies for everyone. How stupid. I have no problem with equity under the law. But there is no IQ equity. If you have the brains use them and get in those classes if that is what you want. Not everybody does. There is nothing wrong with excellence. On certain levels we are not the same. Suck it up and move on.

Let's make certain that those damned "smart kids" don't get a good education.
Yeah, that's the way you create a great country, stomping down your highest performing students rather than assisting them to excel, so that they could perhaps invent something important, or run a company more effectively, or just write a good book.
The teacher's unions need to be outlawed, state by state. It is looking like the biggest hinderance to a good education is teacher's unions, and education colleges.

If you don't place your kids in a private school that puts a quality education first, you'll end up with illiterate graduates. Parents pay for the public schools, they have the right to demand a quality education for their offspring.

Honors Classes is the method schools have of separating the smart, hard working students from the lazy, disruptive students.

By removing Honors classes they will keep white and Asian kids out of college because they need the extra GPA to overcome the racist admissions processes of most colleges.

So the smartest kids in the class will be allowed to achieve no more than the dimmest kids in the class. There is nothing equitable about that.

Here in NJ the school board elections are conveniently (for them) scheduled in April when few people except those involved in the education industry (including relatives) are paying much attention. Proposals to move them to the November general elections fall victim to the New Jersey Education Association - the most powerful political organization in the state.

I say Mandate the Same Method for selecting the members of the Football and Basketball teams!
Everyone gets to play, or No-One gets to play!
After all, the high school teams are the starting point for selecting and training the professional game-players in the NFL, MLB and NBA.
The professional game-players in the NFL, MLB and NBA branches of the Entertainment industry are among the most highly paid people in the whole country.
It is Racist and Discriminatory that 'Some' people are selected for fame and fortune, while the Rest are not.

Some students deserve honors more than others and should be recognized & in this case parents are much brighter than school board members.

Yes because according to this and other nutty school boards the hard working Ivy League University bound student with a 4.5 GPA who knows who the founders of my great country and Beethoven are is the same as the as a -2.0 GPA baby momma who doesn't know who Clarence Thomas is but knows Megan The Stallion songs and can barely write and speak English. Got it.

It's the same old mumbo-jumbo. The school board wants to hold back smarter students be 'de-leveling' education. The parents need to oust the school board ASAP.
