The US has pledged another $713million for Ukraine as two top Biden officials visited Kyiv under the cover of darkness where they blasted Russia's 'failing' invasion. In the highest-level meeting between the US and Ukraine since the war, Antony Blinken and Lloyd Austin took a train from Poland to Kyiv where they met with Volodymyr Zelensky in an overnight trip shrouded by secrecy.(Snip)At the meeting, Austin and Mr Blinken announced a total of $713million in foreign military financing for Ukraine and 15 allied and partner countries; some $322million of that is earmarked for Kyiv. The remainder will be split among NATO members and other nations

Comments:

Wars are fantastic in that fortunes are made skimming money from the urgent assistance that's sent. Every few days there's an article on another few hundred million dollars, which if glancing at the headline you'd think was old news, but no, it's more money we don't have going to prolong a war that has nothing at all to do with US interests but that threatens to drag us in. Here, it seems the funding from other "NATO countries" is really coming from us.

Blinken, please list what you have gained. You have destroyed the U.S. financial system, and the trust of countries around the world. You have increased U.S. indebtedness, and made commitments to Ukraine and NATO that will be ongoing and evergreen. You have created higher inflation, and world food shortages. The EU, with their climate change and green energy, now have no energy. If we supply the EU with energy, the price of energy in the U.S. will be much higher. You have prolonged the conflict in Ukraine, but you have not won anything.

these two miserable representatives of the human race do not belong in positions of authority, their weakness wreaks every time they open their mouths and, like diapers, they have no desire to assist Ukraine and had / have to be dragged into every challenging decision they make - that is no way to run a country, either "lead, follow or get out of the way" but in all aspects of diplomacy these two are the biggest failures who have ever held their positions - they can never be compared to Mike Pompeo, who was the craftiest guy to ever hold the office

Russia has failed? Or Russia isn't succeeding as fast as Putin planned? I'm all for Ukraine winning. But I would not be declaring Russia a failure until there is some sort of actual truce and withdrawal. Blinken and Nod seem to be tempting fate. They need to shut their yaps.

The U.S. has been feeding the Ukrainian military with real-time intelligence on Putin's war plan, which allowed Ukraine to shoot down a Russian transport plane carrying hundreds of troops in the early days of the invasion. Ukraine's successful attack on the Russian IL-76 transport plane near the Kyiv airport in February was conducted after receiving info from the U.S. in an unprecedented intelligence-sharing operation with a non-NATO partner, former and current U.S. officials told NBC. Two such planes were brought down around the same time. Details on which of the two aircraft were shot down thanks to US intelligence have not been shared.

Russia's top diplomat has warned that NATO is now fighting a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine and there is a 'very serious' risk the conflict could turn nuclear. Sergei Lavrov, speaking on Russian state TV last night, accused western leaders of risking a third world war by supplying heavy weapons to Ukraine with the goal of 'wearing down the Russian army'—an aim he described as an 'illusion'. Accusing NATO and its allies of attempting to bully Russia on the international stage, Lavrov said that tensions between east and west are now worse than during the Cuban missile crisis at the height of the Cold War. In its 2022 report, the commission also points to Russia, Iran, India, Nigeria, Syria and Vietnam among 15 nations the State Department should designate as being of “particular concern” to the United States because of their egregious repression of religious liberty.

Swapping animal products for future foods such as insect protein or cultured milk could reduce global warming, water and land use by over 80 per cent, a new study suggests. Researchers used computer modelling to find the optimal diet combination to meet nutritional needs, while also minimising global warming potential, water and land use. They found that if people in Europe replaced meat and dairy with foods produced through new technologies, such as making fake steak out of bovine cells, it could significantly reduce all environmental impacts. Not only that, but it would be nutritionally adequate and meet the constraints for what can be feasibly consumed, according to experts
