CNN+: 21 days of existence, and out the door! Three hundred million wasted. Chris Wallace distraught and lacrymose. Overdosing on schadenfreude. Floating away. "Is that you, John Wayne? Is this me?" (from Full Metal Jacket, 1988)

What will we do without all those extra opportunities not to see Don Fruitcake (Lemon), Anderson Cooper 69, Chris Wallace slurping his wife's soups, or Brian Stelzer sharing his potato recipes? And most importantly, what will Greg Gutfeld do without his foil, Stelzer?

CNN's childish and brainless rants are coming to an end. The adults in charge are demanding it be a real news business. This is also delicious payback for Chris Wallace's disgraceful spin in the presidential debates. His career ends in well deserved ignominy.

Sometimes you want to hear from the strategists rather than the candidate. With all due respect to Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin — who, for a first-timer from the world of high finance, proved to be remarkably disciplined on the stump (few verbal missteps) and surprisingly motivational to Republicans (record turnout) — he's not all that interesting. What is interesting is how he won. How did his campaign win a state by two points one year after his party lost it by 10 points? How did his strategists view Fox News and Twitter, where a funhouse mirror version of the race often played out?

Democrats and Republicans are right to blame each other for the fall of Kabul. It’s a loss for America’s bipartisan foreign policy establishment as a whole. For nearly two decades Washington sent thousands of Americans to their deaths and spent trillions of taxpayer dollars to wage a strategically pointless war. And because both sides of the political divide should be held accountable, military as well as civilian officials, too, it is unlikely that anyone ever will be. Since everyone is to blame, holding anyone accountable implicates everyone.

Republican President Donald Trump has a slight lead over Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in a tracking poll of Ohio likely voters following the national conventions. The state is predictably split with rural voters backing Trump and urban voters backing Biden in the latest figures released Monday by Morning Consult. It is another marker that shows a competitive race in Ohio, which Trump won in 2016 by 8 percentage points. Morning Consult polls daily and uses a 10-day rolling average for state-level head-to-head presidential race results.
