In the days after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol building, the two top Republicans in Congress, Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Sen. Mitch McConnell, told associates they believed President Donald Trump was responsible for inciting the deadly riot and vowed to drive him from politics.McCarthy went so far as to say he would push Trump to resign immediately: “I’ve had it with this guy,” he told a group of Republican leaders, according to an audio recording of the conversation obtained by The New York Times. But within weeks both men backed off an all-out fight with Trump because they feared retribution from him and his political movement.

Oh wait, they figured out they don't own the party? That's the party membership's opinions matter?
Weird... I thought we were all nothing but wallets to empty to keep the RINOs around to make sure the country fell apart in a slow controlled way instead of fast like the left wants.
Surprise! You jerks don't own anything.

Odd. Site that came up was Boston Globe with this story, rather than New York Slimes. No bias whatsoever, of course. /s
This is probably true as I have heard them both say similar things and presented this attitude at other times. McConnell and McCarthy both need replaced as leaders. That are both anti-Trumpers, and anti-conservative RINO's.

Tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumb pulled out the long knives to stab Trump in the back. The two lowest of low-life vermin in the senate. Despicable RINO's that have no loyalty, no moral compass, or virtue anywhere in their soulless demonic satanic bodies. A pair of raging alcoholics with resentments and entitlements a mile high. They spend more time together at happy hour than anyplace else. This is a great publicity stunt because the lie continues on thanks to them.

The Slimes at it again. But then again, McCarthy and Coke Mitch are not 45's best advocates. Come January 2023, they may be out to pasture, as neither will be leading their respective Republican branches of Congress. New blood is required. Those of the UniParty must go.

The NYT is not the story here. The story is the complete betrayal of the American people by two of the worst Rinos in politics. These two were just itching to have a reason to come out hard against Trump. They knew what had happened on J6. They knew everything and for them to act as if this was a surprise is laughable. Any reasonable and fair person would have given the POTUS the benefit edit of the doubt. They would have checked into it. They did not because they wanted the narrative that the dems and media put out there to be true. These scurrilous snakes are repulsive backstabbers. M&M hated President Trump from the beginning because he was not one of them and had the audacity to work hard to get things done for the American people. PDT didn’t suffer fools gladly and knew the political class were there to benefit themselves and actually felt contempt for the people they were elected to serve. He had their number and would call them out when they failed miserably to get things done. He accomplished more in his one term than these bozos did in decades and they wanted him gone. He was upsetting their lucrative little applecart.
It is frustrating to know that these fools pretty much tried to run the one guy in the party that was committed to the country and the American people out of Washington. They are the worst kind of people, the ones who will smile to your face and then stab you in the back. They not were as supportive as they could have been. They did just enough to keep the conservatives from getting restless. Truth be known, they were thrilled on November 3rd, and look where we are today thanks in part to these two self-serving traitors. Politics certainly is a dirty business and these two are the kind of men that the poem, The Snake, President Trump frequently recited are to a T. It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Our Congressman (Dr.) John Joyce of PA has ties with Kevin McCarthy. Dr. Joyce votes the same as McCarthy on questionable bills. We did some digging in our County on our Congressional representative. It seems that our Congressman Joyce's daughter in law works for McCarthy. Someone was running against Dr. Joyce in the primaries and received a call from some very higher ups that he needs to pull out gracefully or else........

Deadly riot? You mean where Nancy Pelosi's thugs shot and killed one woman "protestor" and beat another one to death?
Yeah, I'm sure Trump had something to do with that. NOT.

Both need to be run out of town and destroyed. Trust and believe, they think the "wave" that's coming in November is a huge opportunity for them to stab US in the back and grab big rewards from the deep state. They need to be hoodwinked and bamboozled this time. Their end needs to be just as bad, if not worse, as brandon's end is looking right now. No games, they need to go! I don't care that the NYT or whatever lying leftist rag is reporting it; we all know they are traitors who would say and do just what is being reported about them. The left is trying to take down the party by sacrificing two of their own. That tells you how bad things are for the uni-party, but what do you think the two critters think about being put on the chopping block by their friends?

Just like when we were first hearing that Hillary manufactured a fake dossier from those with the courage and objectivity to report it they still called it "opposition research."

Expect such articles more frequently as midterms approach. Democrats have a treasure trove of unreleased Jan6th information both favorable to and damaging to Republicans. The NYT will release the latter when they think it will best help the Dems.

Any fair minded observer would agree that the election was stolen and you would not have to be nostradamas to predict that the next one will be also.
The democrats act as though they don't care what the voters think because they don't have to care what the voters think.
Meanwhile advocates of free speech are accused of destroying democracy.

Both McConnell and McCarthy are DC Uniparty swamp rats. Bare in mind that it was Kevin McCarthy who scuttled Larry Elder's prospects during the California gubernatorial primaries.
Both Mitch and Kevin should NOT be Senate Majority Leader and House Speaker, respectively. If they are, it's going to be business as usual with the GOP squandering their chances for real change while they could have from 2017-2018.

January 6 was when cowards like McConnell and McCarthy were undoubtedly working swiftly and loudly to separate themselves from President Trump. Neither is known for his courage and loyalty…

Re #4, the New York Times article was republished by the Boston Globe. The original source was the NYT, where the authors of the article and the book they are flogging are employed.
I got stuck at a paywall, but there is more on this at another lefty site:
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/kevin-mccarthy-mitch-mcconnell-trump_n_62615defe4b08393e1c1adea
Links to original sources. McCarthy and McConnell were not cool about this. Dumb as a box of rocks. But at the time they thought they’d be on the right side. Didn’t work.
Excellent reply, #16. This is not about the NYT. Fixating on it misses the point.

If this is true, about McConnell and McCarthy, then these RINOs should be removed from leadership positions. McCarthy sems to think he will be the next Speaker. The next Speaker should be President Trump because he is very popular and does not have to be an elected representative to hold that position. In any event, McCarthy needs to be bypassed for someone less RINO-like.
