Since the middle of the last century, Ohio has been viewed as a bellwether for the mood of the American people.(Snip)Only twice since the Second World War has Ohio failed to vote for the winner of the presidential election. Interestingly, those two outlier elections were marred by credible allegations of massive vote fraud. (Snip) Ohio’s centrality to the Dionysian theater that is American politics makes the 2022 Senate race worth watching. Two-term liberal Republican Rob Portman is retiring. This means there are two primaries this time. Primary campaigns are the most honest bit of politics as both parties are forced to publicly try to prevent the voters from picking a candidate

Comments:

Interesting analysis of the GOP candidates for Portman’s seat. Z Man has no interest in the two frontrunners, but looks with interest at #3, JD Vance.

I did not like this article. Civic nationalism is a failure? Conservatism is not real? I don't believe that. And how is Josh Mandel in clown world? He may have been a moderate way back when, but as Ohio treasurer, he went publicly against Gov. Kasich's Medicaid expansion. A moderate would not have done that,- and that was before Trump was in the picture. This author's love affair with Vance is quite evident, and for sure he'd be better a democrat, but Vance was a nevertrumper, and in his book, stated some of his political idols were definitely Bushies. He works with the "Cloud people"/elitists, and IMO loves being one himself. Gibbons may be older, but he is quite smart and shouldn't be treated with such disdain from this author, who strikes me as a real punk. Sometimes things that worked in the past can work again.

With luck, I may have 20-years left on the planet. Z-Man sure did 'smack' me in the face but I am starting to accept his POV since it being said more frequently. In brief, "Move-on-over Boomer, our party has to do better to shutdown the Groomers, Grifters & new Genders!"

I don’t know anything about the first two men mentioned, but I have read Vance’s book and seen him on Tucker’s show often. I think he is the real deal and don’t hold it against him about how he felt about Trump earlier. Many of us didn’t trust trump at first. I know I was afraid he’s favor the left if he won. Thank Goode didn’t.

The Illusion of Evidence-Based Medicine 0 replies

In 1990, a paradigm shift occurred in the development of new medicines and treatments. An idea so big, that it was supposed to encompass the whole of medicine. It was to start initially at the level of pre-clinical and clinical trials and work all the way through the system to the care and management of individual patients. This new concept for how medicine would be developed and conducted is called evidence-based medicine (EBM). (snip)Evidence-based medicine is “the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.”(snip)So, what the hell happened?

Who Really Committed War Crimes in Bucha? 6 replies

The reports and photographs showing an apparent massacre in Bucha, Ukraine, are truly terrible.(snip)Of course, pictures do not always tell the whole story. For example, to determine whether a war crime took place we must know who did the killing, why, and how.(snip)If civilians were shot and purposefully killed in Bucha, it undoubtedly would be a war crime and a terrible thing. But there are credible reasons to believe the so-called Bucha Massacre was not the doing of the Russian Forces, but rather of the Ukrainians—either local militia or SBU or some combination of thereof—as part of brutal reprisals against “saboteurs” and “Russian collaborators.”

The Democrat governor’s office in Pennsylvania colluded with left-wing activists to secure millions of dollars in private money to run get-out-the-vote efforts in blue counties in the swing state in 2020, new, explosive testimony revealed. The Pennsylvania legislature heard this testimony, backed up by email evidence, on Tuesday during the first public hearing on two new bills seeking to block private grants. Tuesday’s public hearing began with statements by the respective primary sponsors of the bills that seek to ban dark money from elections, with Sen. The de Blasio administration notified Trump Organization on Jan. 15, 2021, that they were terminating the company’s license for a golf course in Throgs Neck of the Bronx borough. The city initially claimed that the Jan. 6 event at the Capitol was the reason behind this decision. But de Blasio officials changed course and stated that the city was canceling the contract because Trump Organization was incapable of attracting professional tournament quality events to the Ferry

Attorney General Merrick Garland’s swan song, we can presume, isn’t exactly turning out how he had hoped. Appointed attorney general in 2021 as some sort of retaliation against Republicans for refusing to seat him on the Supreme Court in 2016, Garland, though largely a figurehead, is getting heat from members of both political parties—including the man who nominated him to serve as the nation’s top lawyer. According to the New York Times, Joe Biden is displeased that Garland hasn’t yet charged the former president for crimes related to the Capitol protest on January 6, 2021.

At a recent Sound Transit Board meeting, the outgoing CEO summed up the situation.
