Juneteenth is now a paid city holiday in New York City.New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced the decision on Monday, noting that it is "long overdue" and will take effect "immediately" this year on June 19. “Juneteenth is a time for reflection, assessment, and self-improvement," Adams said in a statement. "People across the country of all races, nationalities, and religions unite on this day to truthfully acknowledge the stain of slavery and celebrate the countless contributions of Black Americans. It’s time for our city to finally do what’s right and officially designate Juneteenth as a city holiday."

Oh, please. Give them Martin Luther King day or Juneteenth, but not both. How long before we have to reduce our country's work days for Rosa Parks day or Al Sharpton day?
All the more reason for major businesses to move their home offices from New York to Florida or Texas.

Great. Have you though of how legalized child homicide has made the Unites States a better place to live?

Juneteenth is the day news of emancipation arrived in Texas. That news of emancipation was already known in New York. So why the hell does this need to be a NY holiday at public expense? Laziness is my guess. Let's make every day a paid holiday - most of these people aren't working anyway.

Juneteenth. A day to celebrate freedom from slavery. Freedom to do what? Starve? Still work like a slave for little pay and no food, clothing or medical care? Live in ghettos? Get shot? Freeing the slaves the way they did was the worst thing that could have happened to them.

Respect for any persons or entities IS EARNED. Burning cities earns no respect. Looting earns no respect.
Voting for those who would diminish the freedom of all Americans earns money respect. Chicago murder sprees earn money respect. Committing more crime than other population demographics earns no respect. Accepting affirmative action results earns no respect. Collecting welfare earns no respect unless you are disabled or your husband left you with kids and no money. 70+% of black families without a father present earns no respect and those kids suffer and tend to commit crimes. Corporations and government has pathways for those who want respect for what they can achieve and learn. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Kwanza and Juneteenth accomplish little except for those who demand respect that is not earned.

Sweet— finally a June holiday. Now those city workers won’t have to grind out the 6weeks between Memorial Day and July 4th. And it’s on Sunday this year so you know what means— reflection, assessment and self improvement will happen on the 20th. 3 Day Weekend!!!

If you can PROVE that your ancestors fought in the actual army that actually DID the work of freeing those in slavery...do you get the paid day off?
If your ancestors recruited, supplied, trained and LED units into battle do you get double?
If your ancestors recruited, supplied, trained and LED "Colored Troops" shouldn't you get triple pay at the very LEAST?
I'm curious because every father, son, brother, and cousin over the age of 14yo in my family at that time signed up and fought, My Gr-gr-gr Grandfather and his brother both organized, recruited, provided uniforms, weapons and shoes...as well as supplemented pay.. to form separate units of "Colored" troops.
How about this...get the DNA test done, determine the area of africa your ancestors came from.
(and if/how many were white...deducted the percentage of white DNA amount from your reparations)
THEN...compare the average annual earnings of people in THAT place vs the annual earnings in THIS place over the ensuing decades, whatever that difference is "You will either OWE or will be be Paid".
Slavery STARTED there, not here, the people THERE were slaves as well. It ENDED here long before it ended there.

What do I care? I'm not paying their salaries. Other places have their own holidays. Their prerogative.

My stupid company gives us Juneteenth off; we have a diversity department. Heck, we're woke too! Juneteenth is an appropriate holiday; it's a celebration of slave-mentality ignorance. You're free, you just don't know it.

WHAT do blacks want? They got a holdiay for King. They got a president. They just got another Supreme Court justice. It's never enough, is it. I am waiting to see if another holdiay will finally end the smashing and looting of drug stores.
