For Germany, their greatest national sin is undoubtedly the Holocaust. But for most other Western countries, including the United States, slavery is the single most reprehensible aspect of a nation’s history. This notion holds true for Great Britain, France, Spain, and scores of others. Slavery was a horrific crime against humanity. But like the Holocaust, slavery was unique in its horror, and drawing comparisons of other injustices to it are almost always ill-advised. So too is the practice of attributing modern phenomena as being remnants of slavery, because in doing so we trivialize the brutality of that horrible institution.

Amazes me that these people only talk about blacks enslaved in the US. How about those enslaved today? They care nothing for them. "The Global Slavery Index (2018) estimated that roughly 40.3 million individuals are currently caught in modern slavery, with 71% of those being female, and 1 in 4 being children." Blacks in America only use slavery to get something. Amazing how Americans scream about racism in the US but do nothing to help slaves in countries that support slavery today. They scream and yell about slavery so long ago but do nothing to help those in slavery today. Liars all. They do not care about slavery only how they can use it to hurt America. If you care about slavery go and help those in slavery today. Don't stay in your house with heat and air conditioning TV and computers and all the food and things you can steal from companies trying to do a service in the community but hey, you need that 45th pair of Nike shoes? reparations right? Tell that that to the elderly who need meds and can no longer get them because some 17 year old stole them from the Walgreens that now has to close. Good job dems. Hey but we need a SCOTUS who cannot define words.

In 1911, Booker T. Washington wrote: There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.

Slavery was a British practice. It was British until 1781 or so, then and only then did it become an American practice. It was ended in 1865 after less than 100 years. It cost 600,000 American lives. It cost billions in financial costs and the ruination of the South's economy... So please, SHUT UP!!!

Slavery in the Ottoman empire was quite multicultural. They took slaves from all races. Black male slaves were castrated. White women slaves became concubines.

Slavery was an integral part of civilization on earth up until the American Civil War. The practice goes back for millenia when barbarian armies were victorious and carried the defeated enemy off to slavery. The Pyramids were built through slavery as was the Great Wall of China and the Persian Empire. Rome was built on the backs of slaves up until they were defeated by barbarians. Slaves were chained, fed scraps of garbage, starved and beaten until they died at a very young age. American blacks think that picking cotton was the worst task on the planet. What they need to do is pay attention in history class. Thousands of American men died in the Civil War to free the slaves and they were given a start in life when the fair thing to do would have been to send them back to Africa. As Colonel Nathan Jessup said: "I wish you would just say Thank You."

She needs to reread her Bible regarding the subject of slavery. God said that if a man owed a lot of debt, he could sell himself into the position of bondservant until he paid that debt off. But the holders of slaves/bondservants were given specific instructions on how to treat those people. They were to be housed, fed and clothed in a way that respected their humanity. As to a previous commenter's subject of Mexico, Mexico is an apartheid nation. The Spanish who run and rule in Mexico have all the good jobs, the wealth that Mexico offers. The native Indian class is left to wither in poverty. So naturally it is the native Indian classes who are running the cartels, and funding the presidential elections now. Mexico is going to explode someday, and if DC continues to ignore it they are going to have a worse problem on their hands than Russia/Ukraine.

Wonder if she knows her actual ancestry? There was a lady on Finding your Roots on PBS with Henry Louis, who discovered her ancestors came to the United States from Barbados, and she was not part of the American slave history. Then, those who have Spanish history likely find themselves ancestors of those who brutally colonized what is South America, Central America and Mexico, destroying entire civilizations and populations of people. And, there is always the lost part of the equation, someone in Africa was making those people available for the slave trade. The whole idea is abhorrent and was seen as such by most even at the founding of the United States, as it was outlawed in the early 1800's, and finally ended with the Emancipation Proclamation, a Civil War, and eventually in the last vestiges in Texas in 1865. #3, great quote. Had not seen that one before.

I just received my Walmart grocery order. To your door service. I spent $220. That's a lot of bags to drag to my door. The nice young man who dropped them off was black. Sorry if that offends anyone but I tend to notice color and gender. (A habit I picked up when I realized we did not all look the same.) Polite and asked if he could carry them into the house for me. Told him I left him a nice tip and thanked him for his help. He said thank you, that it was appreciated and he hoped to deliver to me again in the future. A nice exchange between two people, we smiled and waved goodbye to each other. He wasn't offended I tipped him and I didn't feel like an elite white person trying to belittle this young black man. These people are not happy unless they are miserable all day making others miserable. It must suck to be them.

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday filed a federal lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, accusing them of “an unthinkable plot” to tie him to Russian interference in the 2016 election. The complaint, filed in the Southern District of Florida, also accuses others in the Clinton campaign and DNC of shielding the former secretary of state from the plot. “In the run-up to the 2016 Presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot — one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy,” the lawsuit says.

Business Insider, describing the social credit system, notes that: The “social credit system,” first announced in 2014, is “an important component part of the Socialist market economy system

One could excuse Nancy Pelosi for being fired up and breaking out her Zelenskyy pompoms the next day. Biden announced Russia's change in status of a trade partner in lockstep with the fellow G7 nations to make it an even heavier burden on Moscow to carry. Joe Biden’s trip overseas has been a disaster! Biden has dramatically escalated his rhetoric against Vladimir Putin, calling for the Russian leader to be removed because of his brutal invasion of Ukraine. “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden’s said at the very end of a speech in Poland’s capital that served as the capstone on a four-day trip to Europe. Biden has frequently talked about ensuring that the Kremlin’s now two-month invasion becomes a “strategic failure” for Putin and has described the Russian leader as a “war criminal.” But until his remarks in Warsaw, the American leader had not said that Putin should not run Russia.

In Boston University Law Review article “The Antiracist Constitution,” the Washington and Lee University professor alleges our nation’s founding document “serves white supremacy.” He aids his argument with George Floyd’s death, the Fugitive Slave Act, and the fact that Thomas Jefferson owned slaves. The professor points out a peculiarity: It is June 28, 1776. The Continental Congress orders that Thomas Jefferson’s draft of the Declaration of Independence “lie on the table.” … Jefferson, who enslaves hundreds of people, nonetheless includes an assertion that “all men are created equal.” Moving forward to fugitive slaves: It is September 18, 1850.
