What’s happening to the Marines?

Original Article

Lately, when we think about what’s happening to America’s military under Biden, we’ve been focusing on the Pentagon’s obsessions with race, LGBTQ+++ issues (especially transgenderism), women’s rights, and political “wrong think” (i.e., conservativism). That obsession has consistently put progressive social policy ahead of military cohesion and readiness. However, Jim Webb, who was a Marine infantry officer while in Vietnam, then the Navy secretary under Ronald Reagan and, lastly, a Virginia senator during the Obama years, has written an op-ed about a different concern: The potentially damaging, purely operational changes Marine commandment Gen. David Berger intends to impose on the Corps.

Back when we invaded Iraq, Jim Webb was very critical of the action and said that he wanted to punch out George W. Bush. We trashed him, and I remember posting that I wondered "what happened to him." I have a much different take on Webb now. He was right all along.

We make fun of how Putin's forces are apparently struggling and we are not watching the other hand. The US Marines were handed their ass and forced to surrender in war games to the Royal Marines back in November. Marine Gen. David Berger is one of many intentionally and systematically undermining our militaries ability to defend our country and themselves for that matter. You have to wonder who's payroll is he on the Great Reseter's or Communist China?

The US has no need for a military the size it has. Its purpose is supposed to be defense, not defending everyone and her sister in the world. Let's start with Europe. Our NATO partners are military jokes. They allowed themselves to deflate after the fall of the Soviet Union becasue they saw little/no threat. They can increase spending, but manpower and expertise are major issues. Meanwhile, the US provides Europe's defense umbrella. Who pays for that? It's long past time to back down from the Cold War era. The world needs to get on with its business, without the US garrisoned damn near everywhere. It's expensive, and it spells endless trouble. NATO is such that it looks for business to make itself "relevant". It foolishly seeks to expand an alliance targeting one country, Russia, to its doorstep. And now we see 1) NATO has few Euro teeth, and 2) The Russians just aren't that good. Offensively, they never have been except pursuing an exhausted enemy beaten by its winter. This has all the earmarks of a bunch of brass circling to defend the $$$ flowing to its service. No service can ever afford a cut. Nation building isn't cheap. Neither is the high-life in Brussels.

I would not be surprised if Berger received the order from the higher-up leftists to do this, thus bypassing the normal channels. Milley and Vindman are unqualified and Joe hasn't a clue about what it takes to fight battles. This could be a fatal flaw if done in the face of Chinese, Russian, Iranian and North Korean aggression.

My father was 20 years enlisted so I make this comment from a military family perspective. Do we really see a large ground force war as the best tactic? The United States has never faced a ground invasion. Ever. Is a large manpower based force practical? Drones, missiles, cyber force….. seems more likely. Nothing anywhere in this world outside of my country’s border is worth one of my sons getting so much as a skinned knee. We have not fought a battle for liberty since 1947. Every conflict since has been politicians sending our citizens to death and dismemberment for NOTHING but greed and power. I don’t trust these clowns and they will never get one of my sons in their clutches.

The current Commandant of the Marine Corps should be court-martialed for dereliction of duty, and drummed out of the Corps, for his lack of leadership and his apparent intent to relegate his comrades in arms into insignificance. America may not “need” the Corps, but it damn sure wants it. The Marine Corps wins battles. More than that, it turns callow wayward youth into men. I know, because they did it to me and a lot of other guys I served with. And I’m “Semper Fi” until I die.

Lose your pension, go to jail, dishonorable discharge if you 'wrong think'. It's over folks Afghanistan is the marker of our military future. Why do we have a standing army (be it Marines or Army) anyway? Keep the special forces, Navy and Air Force. The Founding Fathers' didn't want a standing army. Why should we? We've got the draft to bring up large numbers of troops, quickly, if we get in another World War. Standing armies become play things for politicians. Why are senators like Lindsey Graham so quick to want to go to war with Russia? Well, for one thing, we've got a standing army. If he had to submit a bill calling for a draft, how far would that go? If all else fails, we can go full Henry the V at the battle of Agincourt and empty all the prisons for warm bodies.

For someone who is a member of the bar and was a longtime chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, President Biden demonstrated a shocking lack of understanding of what it means for a Justice of the Supreme Court to recuse him- or herself. It almost has to be his dementia, which is now so self-evident in his public appearances. He was asked in his press conference yesterday (all 12 minutes and 46 seconds of it) if Justice Thomas should recuse himself from any case involving the January 6 “insurrection” (the word that the reporter used) because of something his wife texted. He said that he would leave that to “two entities,”

Today, unquestionably serious cardiovascular, thrombotic and neurologic adverse events related to the vaccine have occurred around the world. The FDA’s own vaccine adverse event tracking system (the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System or VAERS) shows substantial and serious risks from the vaccine, even though the FDA only collects an estimated 10% of all adverse events. Still, federal agencies and manufacturers aren’t officially warning the American public about these risks, despite having been privy to this information for almost a whole year. Why? Because it would counter the narrative that taking endless vaccines and boosters is your patriotic duty.

From the beginning of the COVID pandemic starting two years ago, we have heard conflicting and often nonsensical recommendations from those charged with knowing better and leading the country through the biggest public health crisis that most of us have ever experienced. (snip) the vaccines, we were told, would stop transmission and infection with COVID until we learned that they did neither, only reducing the severity of illness and risk of death. In the U.K. for example, last month 80-90 percent of COVID deaths were among the vaccinated, although the “fact checkers” are eager to claim “misinterpretation” or “lack of context.” Nothing is permitted to interfere with the preferred narrative.

While many have criticized the current enthusiasm for judging the past by the standards of the present (and condemning those past leaders who did not meet them), few have noted how many currently dominant beliefs are totally disconnected from reality and have a profoundly destructive impact. I propose to discuss two of them here: ideas about the nature of mental illness which have produced what Charles Krauthammer called “an army of broken souls foraging and freezing in the streets” and the conviction that our planet is in existential danger from human-induced climate change. The latter has led to a wholly unwarranted, hugely expensive crusade to eliminate fossil fuels.

The paradigm of seeking a balance between the federal government and states began to cave during the Obama years. Now, under Biden, the abandonment of the federalism paradigm is picking up steam, and we see an attempt to sabotage federalism in favor of a vast federal bureaucracy and regulations and laws produced and upheld by a cadre of antisocial, power-mad elitists. The replacement is seen in a growing identity with authoritarian regimes (snip) This agenda is not mainly an agenda of countries, nor of states or provinces or other localities within countries. Nobody was injured, according to authorities, but five people who were living in the scorched shelters were displaced. A fourth tiny-home was damaged as well.
