Global crises involving authoritarian states and concerns about animal cruelty are prompting Congress to scrutinize U.S.-funded research at labs overseas and mull whether taxpayer dollars should be redirected toward projects at home. Republican House members this month told the Biden administration to cancel a grant that funded spinal research on cats at state-owned labs in Russia, and lawmakers still have questions about how grant funding was spent at a virology lab in Wuhan, China, before the COVID-19 pandemic.(Snip)The Government Accountability Office told The Washington Times that it accepted a request from Congress to review operations at 300 labs in 57 countries that conduct animal research

The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and Tron rollercoasters are just two projects in the pipeline at Disney World that could be delayed if employees who are protesting the company's response to Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' bill get their way. Protesters have asked the company to halt donations to politicians involved in the passage of the bill, such as Gov. Ron DeSantis—but they also want Disney to stop all 'construction and investment in the state of Florida' until the bill is repealed.(Snip)Gov. Ron DeSantis, however, says the bill's aim is to 'empower parents' in their children's education, and make teachers recognize the distinction between 'instruction' and 'discussion.'

Everyone on the planet should be covered by an early warning system against extreme weather and climate-related disasters within five years, the UN secretary general has said. About a third of people around the world are not now covered by early warning systems, but in Africa the problem is greater, with about six in 10 people lacking such warnings. As climate breakdown takes hold, more people are likely to be affected by extreme weather, including flash floods, heatwaves, more violent storms and coastal storm surges, made worse by sea level rises. António Guterres said it was unacceptable that so many people were still not covered by early warning systems,

Kamala Harris wasn't happy with Joe Biden appointing her to address the southern border crisis, wanting a more softball foreign policy assignment, and thinks the president's 'white inner circle' looks down on her, according to claims made in a new book. During an April meeting with Congressional Black Caucus leaders, Biden praised Harris and said she would do 'a hell of a job' handling immigration.
'The vice president corrected him at once,' New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns wrote in their new upcoming book This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America's Future.(Snip)'Harris worried that Biden's staff looked down on her; she fixated

Two-and-a-half weeks later on March 8, the same gun was allegedly used by Rodgers—a man with 23 prior arrests on his rap sheet—in a double shooting on West 19th Street and Ninth Avenue in Chelsea, in which one man died.(Snip)Detectives applied for a search warrant

New York Times reporter and creator of the 1619 Project Nikole Hannah-Jones stirred up controversy on Twitter Monday when she claimed in a since-deleted tweet that 'tipping is a legacy of slavery,' sparking an argument with an historian she claims is 'obsessed' with her. 'Tipping is a legacy of slavery and if it's not optional then it shouldn't be a tip but simply included in the bill,' Nikole Hannah-Jones tweeted Monday. 'Have you ever stopped to think why we tip, like why tipping is a practice in the U.S. and almost nowhere else?' Despite initially ruling out terrorism, officials have now said that radical Islam, not mental health issues, was the likely motivation for a Syrian knifeman’s stabbing spree on a German train. There are “serious indications” that a migrant man who went on a knife rampage in Germany back in November was inspired by radical Islam, the local prosecutor’s office has reportedly said.(Snip)Prosecutors also believe the 27-year old rejects the very notion of a Western democratic nation, with Die Welt saying that the man seemingly “disregards all Germans”. The comments made by German officials in regards to the rampaging Syrian migrant stands in complete contrast to initial claims

Stockholm–Two teachers were killed by a student at a high school in southern Sweden, police said Tuesday. The 18-year-old student was arrested at the scene on Monday in Malmö, Sweden´s third-largest city. The victims were two women in their 50s, police said. The suspect wasn’t previously known to the police and had no criminal record, and police didn’t disclose how the teachers were killed. A motive hasn’t been established. “For now it is far too early to comment on that,” Malmö Police Chief Petra Stenkula told a news conference. She said officers arrived and found the suspect and two victims on the third floor
Comments:
Trejean had no drivers license, but kept right on driving however he pleased, and The Law did nothing until he killed someone. Same story across the land; dangerous people roam free and the rest of us roll the dice on crossing paths with them because the government does not want domestic tranquility.
