Beverly Hills business owners and residents are on high alert after millions of dollars of high-end jewelry and watches were stolen during a brazen broad daylight smash-and-grab burglary where the suspects used sledgehammers on Tuesday. Police said at least five masked suspects in black and gray hoodies broke through the thick, tempered glass window of Luxury Jewels of Beverly Hills located at the 200 block of South Beverly Drive at about 1:45 p.m.(Snip)Sedghi said it took the suspects eight or 10 times to hit the tempered glass with the sledgehammers before they were able to finally smash through it.

Government employees refuse to prosecute criminals or to keep them in prison because that costs too much, given that they cannot run anything efficiently. And it's a complete mystery why crimes are becoming more and more outrageous.

Cali's uber-liberal policies that mollycoddle criminals is the reason in the uptick in crime, that's no secret. But why an establishment like this doesn't have armed security guards front and center is a mystery. Maybe they should just place the counters on the street like a bazaar and show off cubic zirconia.

#6, agreed that they're creating domestic unrest intentionally, but in the same way that it's hard to manufacture anything in the USA because of costs imposed by government, even if a company wanted to, it's also incredibly expensive to keep prisoners in jail, even if they wanted to. Cost is one mechanism put in place to achieve their goals. Example, it costs $438,000 to lock up one person for a year at NYC's Rikers Island jail. About $379,000 of that is estimated to be personnel costs. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/09/rikers-island-is-in-crisis-its-not-caused-by-understaffing.html

If it took 8 or 9 tries to smash the windows, wouldn't that be enough time for employees to grab their guns and shoot the trespassers? Or turn loose the dogs? I guess the locked doors and letting people in a few at a time wouldn't work here. So they lost millions. How much would security people cost? I don't have any sympathy until they start doing something to protect themselves. I remember the Koreans in LA kept someone on their roof with shotguns.

Tens of thousands of asylum seekers are expected to flood the US-Mexico border next month as Covid restrictions on immigration are set to be lifted. Immigration experts warn that a 'bottleneck' of an estimated 170,000 refugees has built up over the last two years in Mexico after being turned away at the southern US border under a Trump-era policy known as Title 42. The policy allows border patrol agents to deny entry to migrants without considering their asylum claims if they have been in a country where a communicable disease–such as Covid–is rife. About a third of people around the world are not now covered by early warning systems, but in Africa the problem is greater, with about six in 10 people lacking such warnings. As climate breakdown takes hold, more people are likely to be affected by extreme weather, including flash floods, heatwaves, more violent storms and coastal storm surges, made worse by sea level rises.
