Jamaica is ready to move towards removing the Queen as head of state and becoming a republic as soon as Prince William and Kate complete their Caribbean tour, according to reports.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were accused of benefitting from the 'blood, tears and sweat' of slaves as they arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday to be met by a protest calling for reparations from the British monarchy.
And the Advocates Network coalition of Jamaican politicians, business leaders, doctors and musicians wrote an open letter detailing 60 reasons why the monarchy should compensate the country.
It is now understood that Jamaica's decoupling has been discussed at the 'highest levels' in government

I know nothing about how this business with the Queen works in Jamaica. Maybe removing her as head of state would be a good thing. But I'm thinking that unless Jamaica has a standing army to protect themselves, they might think carefully about this.

Will those reparations pay for them to hire somebody's military to defend their territorial integrity?

The Daily Mail news on such matters is a poor source. There was not that much “wowing” according to one BBC am programme I saw yesterday but a perfectly fine and typical Royal visit it was. One of the reasons the couple went over for a little visit may be Charles knows “change” may be in the air. It is probably time and they may do just fine. The way things are going in Britain that taxpayer money is definitely needed at home.

The English should apologize for slavery? They don't know history. William Wilberforce, an English Quaker, and others, opposed slavery in parliament for 30 years until they finally convinced that body to outlaw the practice. The British navy eventually interdicted slave ships sailing across the Atlantic. Along with the USA, England was a major player in ending what had been an accepted and common practice throughout the world from the beginning of civilization. On the other hand, Caribbean Islands were a major importer of African slaves for centuries until the abolitionist movement finally reached those islands. Instead of asking for an apology, they should thank England.

England should remove all investment in and thus completely ignore the drain which is known as Jamaica. Wonder what the head grifter will do then?

Smart Marxists in Jamaica are drooling with getting control and having Swiss Bank Accounts filled with tourist cash before it becomes a sh%-hole, but they can act like Mugabe till then….

Slavery was bad, but without it they'd still be in Africa. A 'reparation' would be to return them there.
Anything else is a handout, a bribe, a shakedown.
Corruption is as common as ganja in Jamaica. This is just the large-scale version.

So I Googled this just to not sound so racist, but black governed nations are poorly managed. Just take Africa for example. Why are they 1000 years behind the rest of the world ?

Thank you, #6. Islands like Jamaica and Puerto Rico don't realize how lucky they were. They could have lost their entire populations to the Spaniards.
VP Kamala was not available for comment but she did provide a cackle or two.

Re #s 9 and 11. We spent our honeymoon in Jamaica some 51 years ago. It was a s%le then and it’s much worse now. The Brits should be delighted that they want to leave. Jamaica is a dangerous country. Beautiful, but the US has far more beautiful places to visit.

I worked with someone born in Jamacia and who lived there until he moved to the U.S. a few years ago. He said the island has changed since he was a boy. He said he goes back on occasion to visit family, but he stated there is no safe place on most of the island. Where once he and his friends could play outside even at night, now children go inside as soon as it turns dark. The island he said is filled with criminals.

If Jamaica were to break from being a British realm that would greatly favor the UK so much that the British should just say “Jolly Good” and nice knowing you!

If Jamaica wants to leave the Commonwealth fold, let them. But don't expect the UK to give you any traveling money. That is all this is, traveling money.

All the places in the Caribbean are nothing but rat holes where the rich and corrupted go to wash off shore bank accounts. You see poverty everywhere except up the hills where the politicians and wealthy live. Jamaica is no exception.

The sad thing is that Jamaica is only nice to visit because of their English tradition of law and order. Give that up and they have nothing.

After inviting Prince William and Duchess Catherine to visit Jamaica, by all accounts the Jamaicans are being very poor hosts. As William and Catherine have had nothing to do with slavery. If the people running Jamaica today want to pull Jamaica out of the Commonwealth and make a go of it on their own, while probably hob-knobbing with the China to get a lot of Chinese money flowing into Jamaica they should be careful as if they cannot repay China the money they were lent, that before they know it China will essentially be taking over Jamaica without showing the courtesy that Jamaica has been shown by Queen Elizabeth over many years. As for slavery, which in itself was and it is bad, the Jamaicans should remember that without being the victims of slavery, an evil practice that was first outlawed by the British Parliament and its banishment performed by the British Royal Navy, that if they were alive today, most likely those Jamaicans would be running around some primitive native village topless in darkest Africa.

Britain should then expel all Jamaicans living in Britain.
